Music for the revolution in my head: choogling punks; power pop, both skinny-tied and long-haired; soul shouters and girl groups; bubblegum and acid rock; global fuzz; weirdos and outsiders, and the Weirdos and the Outsiders; Archie Shepp and J. Geils. Plus, live bands.

Upcoming events:

Tuesday, October 23rd, 9pm - Midnight: Needless Nineties Nostalgia with special guests Paul Bruno and Amanda Nazario
Like, ya know, whatever. Paul, Nate, and Amanda have a special place in their hearts for the aforementioned decade—when the plural of vinyl was still vinyl, but most people bought CDs anyway. On this very special episode of Burn It Down! the trio will dive head first into the Buzz Bin, and discuss how this last era of pre-Internet cultural discovery shaped their tastes and identities. Expect furious debates, cringe-inducing memories, and an unavoidable Seinfeld reference or two.

Tuesday, October 30th, 9pm - Midnight: Wax Chattels
Who needs guitars? Wax Chattels definitely do not. The New Zealand trio's take on minimalist post-punk revivalism is built instead on menacing synths, rumbling bass, and beats that are precise but never inflexible. Add to all that a hint of the cinematic and you get a sound that ranges from dense, driving sonic polemics to gorgeously eerie odes to the "X-Files," and all with nary a six-string in sight. Wax Chattels were kind enough to drop by Burn It Down to play some songs from their recent self-titled LP on Captured Tracks, and you can also check them out Thursday, October 18, at Elsewhere in Brooklyn.

Tuesday, November 13th, 9pm - Midnight: Long Hots
Tapping into the raw improvisational magic of the very best Velvet Underground live bootlegs, Long Hots have established a new standard for fuzzed-out, lo-fi workouts. The Philly trio call what they do "basement boogie," but to Nate K. Long Hots are precisely what he had in mind when he referred to "choogling punks" in his show description. Still not sure what either term actually means? Tune in on Tuesday, November 13, to find out for sure, when the band drops by for a live set.
