Claims that China is putting Uighurs in concentration camps or committing genocide against them are provocative, serious charges. Such claims should be backed by strong evidence and the presented evidence deserves close scrutiny (remember Iraq WMDs?). I hope your interview with guest Andrea Pitzer (she has previously commented on this issue) brings us closer to the truth. Thanks Mark!

Lots of echoes in the stories of Barents and Munk. Ragged edges as oppression is switching horses from feudalism to mercantilism and capitalist exploitation. The later generations -- Scott, Amundsen, Perry -- much more firmly in empire and capital. But Munk was, later, probably, actually physically killed by the king he kept trying to serve by enduring unimaginable hardship and loss and sacrifice.
