Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Favoriting June 12, 2006: The Dusty Show Peters Out!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Artist Track Album Label Year Format Comments
The Show begins with some excerpts fro previous Dusty Shows. My original intention was to assemble an all new episode with interviews, soundbytes, music ... the whole 9 yards ... but I crapped out. With about 2 days production time left I abandoned this concept and decided to go for a "best of" kind of approach ... or ... atleast stringing together some clips from previous shows ... which is how this program begins.

A Visit with Champ In The Small Town Restaurant Parking Lot
I love that "I'm From Hoboken" song. Got it from a New Jersey tourism website.

Fun Facts To Know And Share About New Jersey!

Excerpt From An Interview With Sam The Barber/Mayor in My Hometown

Roy Masters Moment

Interview With The Token Athiest Where I Work
Counter-Comments by the art kiosk Christian at the Mall.

The Dusty Show Peters Out!

Linn Has Lost Faith In Our Politicians

Newsclip Mix

Ellis and Marcel (from Holland) Discuss Jim Morrison

Excerpt From Rod McKuen!

Ellis Likes Elvis Better Than Jim Morrison

Excerpt - The Doors "The End" (Weird Scenes Inside The Goldmine" LP
Say what you will about Jim. He swaggers the s--t out of this. RIP St. Pete brother.

Momnibus

Street Hippy Dismayed With The USA

A Lingual Tour Of The World
The Lingual segment ends with The Incomparable Hildegarde. "I Love You In Any Language" Hildegarde was an internationally known chanteuse from Milwaukee who just recently passed away in her 90's.

Apple Scheider!

This is new content. Freeform monologue.

Vacuuming The Air
Background music courtesy of Charles Ives "Calcium Night Light." Ives rules.

Dust Is Not Dirt .... It's People! (Soylent Green reference .... but you knew that, right?)

Carpet Freshener Solves Everything!

Holed Up For The Summer

The Inconsistency Of The Dusty Show.

Andy Williams Is Not Enough

Denise In Seattle Loves Bobby Sherman

You Can't Play Poco!
Chip Fisher  Sugar Bowl Rock (Edit)   Favoriting Sound Spectacular 1959  Tops  1959  LP  Horridly nice. I had to edit it. Google is at once amazing and truly frightening. Chip Fisher had many entries as do you probably.
The following ramble was recorded late at night as I laid (lie)? in bed awaiting sleep. This is one of my favorite times to record. Just relaying mental images that fleet ( I like that word) through the addled mind as consciousness gives way to alphamind gibberish. It requires one to be aware of that fine line between sleep and not sleep.

Squirrel Images (Inspired by the wildlife in the backyard and Wisconsin's bounteous nature and critter-packed propensity.

Sabres! I like the idea of Sabre practice. Men swiping the air with sabres for no apparent reason. All dolled up like cossacks. Kossacks? K or C? I'm going with C.

Dulcimers And Looms. A tribute to my scotch-irish ancestry

Crawdads and the like - inspired by the Bluegrass Crick where I grew up. Same with the corn jargon. Treflan Herbicides

Clear Plastic 3-D Cossacks. It's K isn't it. Damn.

Mattress Outlets and Orange Julius Stands. A comment on urban sprawl.

Partyin' on the Prarie around the wagon.

Plateau Wickiup Party!

I Love Native American Culture (So When I say "Injuns" It Is To Make It Stark And Wrong. A Mirror of the Injustice Whitey doled out.)

Little House Memories (I Wish I was Half the Man Mike Landon Was)

A Christmas Nod to My Grandma Eunice and those magical Christmas Eve's on the Farm

Beefalo Sandwiches (True Story)

Chameleon Story (True) They Also Gave Away Baby Chicks Dyed Bright Colors
How Cool Are Salamanders (One Of Nature's Most Defenseless Creatures Next To The Human Baby)

We Are A Part Of The Hiber-Nation (Imagining Janet Jackson choreography with serious wardrobe malfunctions)

Oh, All The Stars I Wish I Had Mentioned. I Love Them All For Their Wonderful Contributions
Watch the movie "Cold Turkey." When Bob Newhart lights the sign painters brush on fire ... that is my dad.

Gene Rayburn - Sleazy But In Control

Restaurant Window - A Magnification of Loneliness

Tea Shop Alienation

Coffins, Hospitals and Dyin'. Yes ... I am afraid. Of the act of dying.

Return of the booted cossacks.

Hackin' off Elk Hides on Beans

An Arrow To the Ribs

Bob Devaney - Coach of the Nebraska Conhuskers. Bain of every Hawkeye Fan.

I Love the image of Indians on Shetlands. Not sure why. Not trying to be anti-PC.

Mittyin' Out

Being Corn. The Ultimate Iowa Death Wish.

Eppley Airfield is in Omaha. Even though by the storyline they were supposed to be in Colorado.

The Truth is that which I keep for myself.

This whole Elvis segment wasn't too good. I was losing it. I love Graceland though. I wish i could have been elvis friend and helped him. Poor E. It was too much for him. He was all messed up on his mama. He should have stayed in Tupelo and married a nice girl.

Lovely Elvis Porch Fantasy. I wish it were so.

What Is The Westward Metaphor. I'll figure it out in 2 years. Like everything else. It does mean something. Everything does.

Flowers Of The Dead

Bees are Sexy Aren't They?

Polyvisional Eye! That was a good one.

Mysterious :30 second gap. I have NO IDEA how this happened.

I spent one of the most mystical nights of my life in St. George, Utah. Alone in a cheap motel. On my way from LA to Wisconsin.

Pioneer Fantasy. It could have been you and I 100 years earlier. We missed out.

Peach Crates, Spokes and Goat stomachs.

Never Went To Catalina. Used to see it from LA and wonder about it.

Good Shy Men Meet Prim Women And Make Real Love (apart from the overrated people magazine love of the affluent and beautiful)

Old Fashioned Love - A Dream That Seems So Impossible.

BAck to the B&B in an attempt to tell a circular story.

Rex. Underused cool name. Like Warren or Jane.

As far as the pasty kid. I was losing it at this point. Tom Selleck was the bail-out cue)

A Final Visit With The Kolonel And Dusty
Mark-Almond  Friends (Edit)   Favoriting MArk-Almond II  Blue Thumb  1972?  LP  What a pretty song. Makes me sad. I like being sad sometimes. It feels like being alive.

Apologies. Probably not warranted. I just always wanted to kick %#$. You guys sent me so many nice e-mails after this show. It really touched me. So sweet, really. I love you all. Thank you for reaching out and for listening. How lucky I am to have been given this opportunity, and to have gotten to know some of you a little. Tonight, you showed me that a lot of people were out there all along. The staff at FMU has been so beautiful to me too. Even though I haven't met them, I feel I know them. So that's it. Hard to believe. I never thought I would make it to June. After Christmas, and since then, it has been really difficult to keep up. But, I am so glad I did. It's been an experience I will never forget. As for the future, I can't say. I don't want to say. I won't presume that a slot would be waiting for me because SO MANY talented and deserving people wait to be on FMU and in my estimation each is unique and gifted and sacrifices a lot to give you their heart and mind. Also ... if I tell myself i am coming back ... it's just pressure. And I need to go live you guys. A little bit. Man does not live on day job and Dusty alone or he becomes dull like Jack. So ... I'll leave it open-ended and thank you again for your love, support and friendship. Feel free to write me anytime. I try to write back though sometimes it gets past me. dusty@wfmu.org Have a great summer. Life is short! I'll see you again down the line. With much love and appreciation to each of you ..... take care ... and always remember. Clay Pigeon 6/12/06
