Playlist for This Is the Modern World with Trouble - August 9, 2007

Thursdays 9am - Noon on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

goood morning...

Thu. 8/9/07 9:08am From: north guinea hills

second version of "some velvet morning" in two days on wfmu!

Thu. 8/9/07 9:09am From: Parq

<listening to the Hazelwood> Kind of puts the whole thing in perspective, doesn't it?

Thu. 8/9/07 9:13am From: Parq

Just looked up "Song Retains II" on Amazon. Gotta love that cover. And look, fellow Dirt Club alumni the Whyos are on it!

Thu. 8/9/07 9:15am From: Scott

Thanks for playing The Byrds! "He don't like the young folks you know, he told me last night on his radio show..."

Thu. 8/9/07 9:16am From: Derek

Odd... I can't find it on Amazon. I liked that track too.

Thu. 8/9/07 9:16am From: Pamela

Thanks, I needed some bluegrass/country. :-)

Thu. 8/9/07 9:16am From: ?

I always look forward to Thursday mornings with Trouble. You're the best.

Thu. 8/9/07 9:17am From: Scott

Just look for The Essential Byrds

Thu. 8/9/07 9:19am From: Derek

Er, sorry, I meant the "Song Retains II" v/a! And yeah, this is my favorite WFMU show too.

Thu. 8/9/07 9:22am From: vivian

My, I do like that Byrds track! Derek it's on Amazon, #12 when I pulled up 'Byrds'.
Trouble-good morning and thank you for Pavement!

Thu. 8/9/07 9:24am From: Parq

Derek, Google "Song Retains the Name". That'll get you to Amazon's page for the first album. Then use the 'Zon page's "Better Together" link to get to the 2nd release.

PS. I love how this feature helps me keep my Arithmetic skills sharp.

Thu. 8/9/07 9:32am From: jonathan

great elo cover!

Thu. 8/9/07 9:32am From: 55 Fingers

I take it you were speeding in RI. We all break the law from time to time. Bonds injected amphetamines and maybe other things and he's the home run king. Just try not to get caught. Skooley D ver. of kashmir is cool too!

Thu. 8/9/07 9:35am From: mad

big fan blah blah... you're on a roll this morning. you save my Thursday mornings

Thu. 8/9/07 9:37am From: Lydia

I am digging this monumentally (Elephant Ride by State of Bengal).

The whole set has been quite EXCELLENT. Thanks, I needed this!

(This is so MTV/VH1, commenting like this. We need the "bubble" noises and pop-up trivia!) (Not really.) ;D

Thu. 8/9/07 9:40am From: g

yes, watch out for the fuzz on 95. have received more than one painfully expensive ticket on that road . . .
thx fer the tunes

Thu. 8/9/07 9:40am From: Scott

Tired of the birds or The Byrds :-)

Thu. 8/9/07 9:45am From: north guinea hills

i think "hippo gumbo" would have sounded better.

sorry, it's still early

Thu. 8/9/07 9:47am From: Kat

"Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man" is supposedly about Ralph Emery, unpleasant country music TV host and Skeeter Davis's ex.

Thu. 8/9/07 9:49am From: jtm

Thanks Kat, I never knew that!

Thu. 8/9/07 9:49am From: north guinea hills

one of the more under appreciated stephen merrit albums that i love

Thu. 8/9/07 9:59am From: Dale

You gotta love that smooth Jimmy Webb arrangement. As Glen said at the end of his show, "Leave the latch string out and the dogs tied up, I'm coming home."

Trouble, I'd LOOOOVVEE to hear "Everyday Housewife" sometime.

Cheers!

Thu. 8/9/07 10:15am From: Pamela

I love hearing the workings behind music being made... I had a friend who worked for A&M records and heard CSN&Y's stuff behind one song. Coool...

Thu. 8/9/07 10:19am From: Lewis Gilbert

Beautiful segue - caroline no -> vem kan segla

Thu. 8/9/07 10:20am From: Pete

Hello fellow space travellers....

Anyone catching the temporal relevance of the Lee Hazelwood tune here??? My wife and I marvel at FMU DJ's knowledge and library of music - Trouble's one of the best at this!

Not to be creepy but you're a big part of life at our household Trouble. We love hearing your kids on the interstices as well.

Thu. 8/9/07 10:39am From: north guinea hills

Thu. 8/9/07 10:39am From: Christopher

I still plan on marrying you! Do you have a myspace page or something?

Thu. 8/9/07 10:40am From: Derek

Totally not creepy at all.

Thu. 8/9/07 10:52am From: Paul

I don't like pavement. never have. Loved that song you played before. Now I have to go and buy some Pavement. My world is upside-down.
