Mon. 11/12/07 12:39pm From: barry wilson

Well, that LAST "song" was really UPLIFTING...
(DJ Axel?)

Mon. 11/12/07 12:48pm From: jimi-jimi

"uplifting" as sarcasm or complimentary?

j.j.

Mon. 11/12/07 12:57pm From: Fleximatic

is there a reason why you dont do an accuplaylist? You seem to be keeping everything up to date. but the text doesn't load into my iTunes like on other shows.

Mon. 11/12/07 1:00pm From: Woody

Hi fleximatic-

I'm pretty good at keeping the playlist up but if I play a bunch of short things, I get behind. It also interferes with more "creative" dj-ing, if I'm worrying about keeping the accuplaylist up...

Mon. 11/12/07 1:01pm From: barry wilson

sarcastic...the song sucked. Get it?

Mon. 11/12/07 1:03pm From: Greg

Bassholes? hell yeah.

Mon. 11/12/07 1:35pm From: (mta) Tony

Woody, if listeners don't like particular songs, why do they feel it necessary to label it as "it sucks" when they know everyone has their own taste and what's good for one may not be good for another. Don't they realize there are folks out there that LIKED the song?

Mon. 11/12/07 1:38pm From: hjmaiere

Ack! What was that song two songs ago with the big drums? Tsehaytu Beraki? I looked that up and it didn't look right.

Mon. 11/12/07 1:39pm From: jonathan

MR YUCK!!! HELL YEA!!!!

Mon. 11/12/07 1:39pm From: barry wilson

That last listener entry "sucked", isn't it fair to give Woody feedback on what he's playing? I thought this was one of the functions of all this?

Mon. 11/12/07 1:45pm From: hjmaiere

Martin Atkins China Dub Soundsystem. Got it. Gracias!

Mon. 11/12/07 1:48pm From: (mta) Tony

Positive feedback is good; negative feedback sucks. A positive comment would have been "I personally thought that song sucked. Did ANYONE like it?" In that way, you don't belittle the taste of other listeners who may not agree with you. Obviously, if WOODY played the song, HE likes it.

Mon. 11/12/07 1:59pm From: Jim De

I would think it true that Woody need not _LIKE_ a song to play it -- it may fit well into the mood of the set, it might be interesting but hard to like, whatever. I would trust the DJ to provide the sounds that take the listener somewhere -- really doesn't have to be "likeable". (Woody--Great show!)

Mon. 11/12/07 2:00pm From: (mta) Tony

My opinion's yes, this Board's purpose is to allow the free flow of ideas and open communication, but not to belittle someone's taste in music or make blanket statements like, "you suck" or "it sucks." That just promotes animosity. Personally, when I don't like a song, I just wait for the next one.

Mon. 11/12/07 2:02pm From: (mta) Tony

Good point, Jim D...

Mon. 11/12/07 2:02pm From: Woody

Thanks for all the comments. Jim De is correct but I think the song in question was a 50cent/Leena Horne mashup, which I could imagine not being everyone's thing. Nonetheless, it's good to hear from folks and constructive criticism is always welcome! Thanks again!

Mon. 11/12/07 2:06pm From: (mta) Tony

Woody, do you EVER play songs you do NOT like? If so, please give a reason and perhaps an example of such an event.

Mon. 11/12/07 2:09pm From: Jim De

Righto. I am a frequent reader of the popular social blog "Metafilter.com". This issue of personal taste comes up often, and is humorously characterized as "<your favorite band> sucks!". To me, seems part of the ebb and flow of very broad interchange enabled by the internets.

Mon. 11/12/07 2:12pm From: Woody

Hi Tony-

I don't play music that I don't like although occasionally for flow, songs that wouldn't make it on a prospective girlfriend's mixtape can make it on-air. and the occasional mis-cue :)

Mon. 11/12/07 2:15pm From: barry

Good point Jim D.
If someone enters the public spectrum in a "creative" role (read:DJ) then like any artist they should be prepared to accept comments if they are connecting with their audience or not, they do what they want with that feedback. If you're afraid to get feedback stay home and load your I-pod. Simple enough?

Mon. 11/12/07 2:18pm From: (mta) Tony

Thanks Jim De for updating me on Internet protocol. Mm, I see, so to read such things as "he, she, it, or they suck" is quite commonplace. Perhaps I ought to watch more Simpsons. Thanx Woody; I was sure you wouldn't play any songs you didn't like. Are we still making "mix tapes."

Mon. 11/12/07 2:23pm From: (mta) Tony

Okay, simple enough Barry. Thanks. I guess I'm just from the old school where I was taught if I had nothing good to say, to say nothing at all (from Bambi).

Mon. 11/12/07 2:24pm From: jimi-jimi

Thanks Jim De for updating a certain someone on whats going on with the internet. Feedback for any artist or person in the so-called creative-community is absolutely imperative. To suggest otherwise is really lame.

Mon. 11/12/07 2:44pm From: Bad Ronald

Vacuums suck!

Mon. 11/12/07 2:53pm From: (mta) Tony

Hey Bad Ronald, are you still interested in knowing about the original version of that film before the censors cut it?

Mon. 11/12/07 3:00pm From: Bad Ronald

Oh yeah! thanks for reminding me. can you please send me an email?

badronald@whoresanddrugs.com

Thanks again!!!!!!!

Mon. 11/12/07 3:00pm From: Flexmatic

i dont agree that any person in the public sphere should be open to instantaneous criticism. if I go to a concert and a band plays a song I dont like, it would be obnoxious for me to scream "that song sucked!" Same as if I go to a comedy club - the comic tells a klunker and it's cool for me to start yelling "that joke sucked!" Give me a break! if you're here listening to the station, take the good with the bad. If you hate what the DJs playing, turn the station. If on the other hand youhave constructive criticism, offer it. But posting "that song sucked" is pointless and stupid.

Mon. 11/12/07 3:02pm From: (mta) Tony

Hi Woody, Martha just played that Bob Marsh song this morning and I fell in love with it. Can you direct me to where I can purchase it? Seems so new, it's not listed widely.

Mon. 11/12/07 3:05pm From: (mta) Tony

Thank you Flexmatic so much for your support. Your comment was right on the money and I totally agree with you. I appreciate your taking the time to support my stance.

Mon. 11/12/07 3:05pm From: Woody

Hi Tony-

It is out on Public Eyesore... a good place to start would be their website:
http://www.publiceyesore.com/

Mon. 11/12/07 3:06pm From: barry

Old "fleximatic" doesn't sound too flexible. Did anybody suggest screaming at performers during concerts? The key word here was "internet", are you not paying attention? I don't think so...the beauty here is that we can give comments as the playlist rolls on...simple enough?
Did you vote for Bush?

Mon. 11/12/07 3:07pm From: (mta) Tony

thanx, Woody; great show today. Sorry it seems I may have put the Kabosh on the comments today, me being so "lame."

Mon. 11/12/07 3:14pm From: (mta) Tony

I think the point Flexmatic and I were trying to make was that negative criticism is counter-productive. What can be learned from such a listener's comment? Certainly NOT that the song actually did suck, as that's a totally subjective value. So all we learned from such a comment is that YOU ALONE felt that song sucked. And what are we to do with THAT information? It was a waste of time to say.
