Evan
blue's men no time to cry
how long was this song? and was it cut off?
could you post actual record lentgh...thanks
 11:28pm
efd:

hello, mystery commenter. I didn't cut that song off, that was exactly how it appears on the record (which doesn't have any times on it).
 11:51pm
Randy in NC:

efd, I heard your interview on Saturday. As an ex-Bay Stater, maybe you know this. The big AM station there in the '60's/early '70's was 68 WRKO. There was another AM station that played more R&R and less pop, Do you recall what it was? I guess kind of like WABC vs. WMCA in NY.
 11:59pm
miss buxley:

whuts up efd,,how was your weekend? did you anything groooooooovy??? i shopped and saw two movies,,JUNO & I AM LEGEND they were both REALLY good!!! are you gonna go see that new movie openin friday MEET THE SPARTANS?? i mite go check it out myself,,i hope you have a groooovy week efd,,,seeee ya =)
 12:09am
Pete:

EFD

Thanks for The Laureates song. Really good to hear new Power Pop. Checked their web site while you on air, they are from Chicago and according to their page, are recording new songs. Can't wait!
 12:19am
Randy in NC:

Power Pop is good. Ummm
 12:19am
efd:

Pete, thanks for the confirmation on the Laureates, I was pretty sure that's where they were from. Can't wait for the new stuff myself.
Randy - the only other Boston AM stations I can think of offhand are WBZ and WHDH, but I think of them as more pop/MOR than RKO was.
Miss Buxley, I didn't think anyone still read Beetle Bailey...
 12:24am
punk:

Banana!
moon pies are awesome.
but they are not punk.
 12:25am
Randy in NC:

It wasn't those. I was in maybe 7th grade, and this station had a live remote at a store in Waltham. I still can picture the DJ, a guy with square shades. Hip. A pal and I used to debate which was the better station. Maybe they didn't last long?
 12:25am

BANANA FIRST DUH
 12:25am
maria:

Hi Evan!! I think chocolate now, for the extra kick and little bit of caffeine, aand banana later, for the pure sugar and fake banana effect. My 2¢ for you there
cheers and great show!
 12:27am
Randy in NC:

Moon pies are everywhere down here in NC. Take a look at the ingredients, or maybe don't until after you down them...
Chocolate.
 12:30am
miss buxley:

efd,,ya know that the MISS BUXLEY character is alot like me,,SWEET,,,KIND,,CONCIDERATE ALSO BLONDE & BEAUTIFUL,,,=)
 12:31am
efd:

so far it's 2 votes for chocolate, 2 for banana, and one for not reading the ingredients first!
 12:33am
meepo:

I really like the vanilla ones the best, those are kind of new fangled.
 12:40am
efd:

randy, jeez, i grew up one town over from Waltham. I am totally drawing a blank on what station that would have been, though admittedly i can't give it my full attention. was it maybe a suburban station, not from Boston proper? it was definitely AM and not FM?
 12:52am
Randy in NC:

Yes AM, it could have been suburban. I still remember the store, Chess King on Moody St., kind of like the groovy late '60's version of Hot Topic. Oh well. If it comes to you I'll check back in the archives. I gotta be on a plane at 7AM.
 12:54am
Jessica:

I don't think I've ever actually seen a moon pie [Moon Pie™?] in person. Are they like Chocodiles™ or Its It™s?
 12:55am
Jessica:

(Look how cute question marks are in your comment font! So cute!)
 1:03am
Jessica:

Aha: more like an It's It http://www.itsiticecream.com/history/ , only w/o the melty brain freeze beneath the salty oatmeal cookie. Mm, salty melty brain freeeeeze... I wonder what kind of crazy dreams ensue if one tries to sleep just-post- It's It. Does a banana Moon Pie have banana marshmallow, with chocolate coating? That'd get my vote.
 1:04am
efd:

Jessica, it's actually Moon Pie®.
Definitely not like Chocodiles... what the hell are Its Its? I never heard of those. A Moon Pie has two soft cookies with some vaguely marshmallow-like substance in betweeen, and a thin coating of frosting all around it.
 1:05am
efd:

nuts, that was supposed to be a ®
(circle-R symbol)
whoa, this song's almost over!
 1:05am
efd:

double-nuts!!
 1:19am
efd:

here you go: http://www.moonpie.com
and they have the nerve to print on the wrapper "a ZERO trans fat snack"
 1:19am
slugluv1313:

aren't Moon Pies kinda like Scooter Pies?
 1:20am
Jessica:

On your next visit to the left coast, we're going to have to schedule an It's It tasting. You can get them at wee Mom & Pop shops, certain 7-11's, and this one rest stop on Hwy 5 halfway between here and Portland, OR. Go figure. Best eaten fresh, with the cookie still hot, the chocolate congealed but not crackling-hard, and the ice cream threatening but never quite turning to a future laundry nightmare. Looks like they do mail order, now http://www.itsiticecream.com/order/. That seems like just about the weirdest thing one could legally send or receive over US state lines.
 1:23am
Joe B:

Evan, Ellen Foley played at the Lakeside Lounge last year! Did you go?
 1:26am
miss b.:

efd,,i just sent you mail,,please respond,,ty g'nite
 1:26am
efd:

holy crap! no, i did not. I wonder if she did that song?
or if she did just her parts from "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"? Scharpling should have gone down there!
 1:28am
Joe B:

That is a great EF song, EFD, hadn't heard it before.
 1:33am
Nate:

SO: which Moon Pie did you like better?
 1:39am
efd:

Nate, I don't think I can handle more than one of those at a sitting. I think I'll hang onto the chocolate one for Jessica.
slugluv, yes, Moon Pies and Scooter Pies are pretty much the same thing, I think, but it doesn't seem like they have Scooter Pies out west either.
 1:52am
Joe B:

It was Dec. 4 - Dew Claw. Thanks for mentioning it!
 1:52am
Jessica:

!!
Moon Pies are mythical, something we see in movies and so accepted in common parlance a la "Kleenex" for tissue. A Scooter Pie, out here, is what one calls one's puppy or perhaps one's toddler nephew. Either sounds like it'd go great with an RC or Crown Cola, plus sunshine and Stranglers.
It's snowing here. FYI. http://www.sfgate.com/c/pictures/2008/01/22/ba_snow008cag.jpg
 1:54am
efd:

aha! Thanks Joe, I didn't scroll down far enough when I was looking at your playlist page.
Snowing in SF, that's crazy!
 2:01am
?:

Holy crap this Paul Butterfield is great... I need to scour my collection to see if I have missed it.
 10:47pm
Joel:

Is it my imagination or do I hear the opening synthesizer and guitar riff from the Stones '2000 light years from home' in the start of orchester gunter gollasch 's song - not that this is a bad thing..
 2:10am
Holly in NC:

Your last set actually starts with the Masonics' 'Don't Talk To Me', which is a great song! Unfortunately. the pop-up player is indeed linked to dew-claw, song 2 of the set. Yes, I too am pedantic (read:anal). :-)
Anyway, wonderful show.
