My super bowl party is of the most unusual nature. No salty foods, beer, pizza, wings, people or tvs are present. I do have a radio but it is set to not let me know what is going on in the wolrd of sports. I win!

my superbowl party: eating caramels and listening to WFMU!

Sun. 2/3/08 9:36pm From: mary jane

Love your show but have turned it off after you briefly discussed the Super B. I turn to you to get away from such crap.It is just too disgusting and boring to hear about it and I do not want to be annoyed by any more reference to it.Football marketing lingo and rituals are profoundly crass, stupid and probably corrupt...Shall now stop complaining. Will listen next week.

Sun. 2/3/08 9:43pm From: bethany

Hmm...my only mention of Superbowl XLII was to give an alternative to it and to begin a discussion among listeners about how they deal with it's enormity in our culture - along those lines, I appreciate your feedback...it's all grist for the mill.

'til next week -b.

Myk - are you buddies with The Draperies (on now)? They are your Toronto label-mates....

Sun. 2/3/08 9:47pm From: myk

Yeah, Ryan is in my band. and Doug recorded our record.

Sun. 2/3/08 9:48pm From: myk

they played my bar mitza.

Sun. 2/3/08 9:54pm From: bethany

...and they time travel with your cat?

Sun. 2/3/08 9:59pm From: myk

To my knowledge, Ryan is the only cat (of the jazz nature) I know who has actually done it. It's not really the type of thing one discusses freely, you know, so there could have been other occasions.

hi Bethany.i do agree w mary jane,but-as w many other things that annoy me about american"culture"-much of the world culture,from what i know- i'd be terribly depressed if i wasn't able to laugh at it(though sometimes provocatively)...that said-i'v never watched a superbowl.I have had 1or 2 SB parties w no TV on,though...and,if i had a bigger appartment now i'd have a lingerie party,or costume bash-maybe TV-no sound-another TV in another room w tapes of Soultrain from the 70s' on-(no sound)-good music-sushi,red wine,sake,ouzo,honey-sweetened dairy-free hot chocolate w sambuca,frangelico,ameretto,or brandy...lots of chocolate & olives & walnuts & fruit-& games,dancing,and,maybe"super bowls"(nudge,nudge!)...alas-not this year.

great show thanks!

Mon. 2/4/08 12:48pm From: Paul

I've never watched the Superbowl. However turning off a video I found the preparations for it going out on British TV, so I half watched for a few minutes while clearing up my ironing. There was some terribly smug pompous promo video from the Patriots about teamwork and why they were going to win following a commentator about their perfect season and how they were the favourites, so I'm made up about the result. Of course, if I knew anything at all about the Giants I probably wouldn't like them either.

Just listening to The Sinking of The Titanic - sounds a bit as though it's recorded through a bowl of cornflakes, but presumably that's the marker that there's some turntablism going on!

Great show as ever - marker to self, must not stay at work to listen all the way through today - there's domestic labour to be done!

Wed. 2/6/08 4:22pm From: Lunatim

What?? The Stuporbowl is still around??
Seriously, that dumb show represents all that sucks about America: brain-dead Homer Simpsons snacking on deep-fried crap, advertisements for crappy domestic pisswater pilsners that put real beer to shame, and a retarded game where many retarded gorillas fight over a stupid pointy ball that doesn't bounce right. Blechh...
