Listener comments!

  9:09am Bad Ronald:

Mornin' Doug!
  9:11am north guinea hills:

mornin' y'all!
  9:14am Parq:

Great to have some hillbilly with my morning cup. I still remembef the days when practically no one played s'kicker on FMU.
  9:20am Doug:

Morning y'all! A special word to all y'all on the ol' commenary section of the program. A BUSHFUL OF THANKS!
  9:20am nh_dave:

Why so blue?
  9:26am Joel Wanek:

Sir Doug! Warm greetings from Chicago. Thanks for the adrenaline blast this fine morning. Hope you're well.
  9:35am nickychicky:

friendly sighing - alibiing
  9:39am Robert Leaver:

I produced this record with Greg Landau. So happy to hear it. To think, Melon Gonzalez was only 19 when we recorded this (he had just started playing with Isaac Delgado) and Dafnis Prieto on congas was 18 and a substitute on the session- now he's got to be one of NYC top jazz drummers. They blew us away...and I'm so glad this record has not disappeared! Thanks for playing it!
  9:46am north guinea hills:

sr. valentin reminded me to get some gum
  9:52am PD:

Can you play any Paoli Mejias?
  9:58am Torbjorn:

Oh, lordy, that voice ! .. Great set you've got going here, gem after gem.
  10:00am Paul Sherratt ( UK time-zone ):

Ok ... who has been playing with the clock ?
  10:03am north guinea hills:

the last two years the u.s. has started daylights savings time 5 weeks early b/c bushy says we'll save energy.
  10:03am Bob:

That Gurmeet Bawa was pretty amazing. And it looks like emusic has two album's worth! I'm guessing that the song listed there as Jugni is this same Jugani.
  10:07am Doug:

Bob, the Jugni track at Emusic is only 2+ minutes long. The track I played is over 7 minutes. The record I have is a Japanese import of a session recorded in Osaka in '88. I don't think it's the same thing on Emusic. Of course, it's surely spectacular...
  10:18am Listener Dave from NH:

This talkover music's pretty mean - it reminds me a lot of A Guy Called Gerald (which is a fine, fine thing).
  10:21am Cecile:

Yay! Mellow Man Ace! Mentirosa is one of my favorite songs, evah...
  10:25am Paul Sherratt:

north guinea hills,

Thanks for that info. It must be very comforting to live under such a Great Leader !
  10:26am Doug:

Cecile, "Mentirosa" is my fave too, but I ALWAYS play that one. I'm trying to branch out a bit!
  10:32am Cecile:

I'm glad you did.

Do you have any Kid Frost floating around? Like La Raza?
  10:36am PD:

Gelongal - I haven't heard this in so long! I have a cd somewhere - gotta go find it. Thanks!
  10:41am Parq:

Ah, that's why it's familiar -- it was on Doug's "Culture Shock" premium -- blogged last summer, for those of you looking for your very own.
  10:47am Doug:

Parq, you beat me to the (key)punch! Yes, that track is on my Marathon premium from 2004.
  10:58am kronos:

Yo Doug,
It's not 5 minutes to noon. Just shy of 11am, by my clock. You gave me a little heart attack.
  11:00am Doug:

Whoops, sorry 'bout that...
  11:04am Listener Dave:

Wait, so busing leads to floods? Holy crap!
  11:04am Alex C Jones:

I think the daylight time happened first, so Doug started making the adjustment in his head, then the clocks were set an hour ahead, but Doug is still in the habbit of making the adjustment, so ...
  11:06am Cecile:

WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW.
That School Bus song was something.

I mean, Dave. The bus emissions led to global warming which led to heavier than usual rainfall and of course forced intergration took away money that was earmarked for infrastructure. Clear as the muddy creek.
  11:08am jonathan:

man. skip a rope!
  11:08am Paul Sherratt:

" Real, The Tom T Hall Project " one of THE great tribute collections ( imo )

http://www.tthproject.com
  11:10am Listener Dave:

Cecile - got it. If only they had bought carbon credits when they started busing everything would've been OK. So sad....
  11:10am GUMBY:

Yeah Haaa!
I've been blasted into Hillbillie Heaven by TNT.
  11:11am Cecile:

I know. A tragedy that could have been averted.

What? Now Tanya Tucker tells us integration brings urban development and happiness! Make up your minds, people! ;D
  11:20am Cecile:

Paul, thanks for posting that Tom T. Hall link. I love the guy!
  11:26am Marino:

The Netherlands are tuned in again
  11:40am Paul Sherratt:

Cecile,

Me too.

I've just been reading the comments Tom T has made about some of the covers in that 100% essential collection. I think Doug will agree with his assessment of the Iris Dement number. Joe Henry's take on " Homecoming " gets me every time but really everyone on the " project " has contributed something special. R B Morris 's " Don't Forget The Coffee, Billy Joe " - oh boy ...
  11:41am GUMBY:

Nice show Doug. Love the supersonic drum bombast.
  11:44am Mere:

Woah! This Stan Tracey (whom I hadn't heard of) ) is incredible! Always a revelation, Doug -- thanks.
