Playlist for Irene Trudel - March 24, 2008

Mondays 3pm - 6pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Music floating on calmer seas is "netted" by my ears and released to the hungry listeners. It's a stringy catch, but freuently live and always delectable.

Yes it is! The collection (spelled Conet) is out of print, but you can find downloads of it on the web.

Mon. 3/24/08 3:39pm From: ADM

Oh okay. I couldn't remember if it was Conet or Konet. I do remember that's where wilco got the name for their cd.

Me, I'm a wee bit jealous of Hugh being able to listen to FMU, and Irene in particular, in a garden.

Mon. 3/24/08 5:38pm From: Irene

Great! What can you tell me about them? I know virtually nothing , other than they're from Montreal.

Mon. 3/24/08 5:41pm From: north guinea hills

i have the album at home, i'll email you some info after i leave work. the only thing else i know is that that album is from 1972

Mon. 3/24/08 5:51pm From: Irene

I was a big Harmonium fan for at least one of their songs. Comme Un Fou, was very meaningful for me as I was going out with a French Canadian girl from 1975 to 1979 and I was definitely a fool in love then. She gave me the L' Heptade D'Harmonium album, which is a live album, but I could have sworn there was a studio album with that song on it but AllMusic doesn't know about it.

The Heptade album is more or less one suite but I only liked Comme Un Fou and a few other tunes near it on the album. I'll have to go back and listen to it find out their names. (I'd be happy to dub it off for you Irene/FMU, if you wanted it. It's a well produced, well recorded album.)

Comme un fou, certain...

Is the Mekons album "Hurt So Good," or is it "So Good It Hurts?"

Tue. 3/25/08 4:29pm From: Irene

Ah, Ryan, right you are! "So Good It Hurts" is indeed the title. (Damn the auto-suggest function!)

Wed. 3/26/08 9:25am From: dnb

I found some translations on line but frankly they seem to be automated. Here is my effort:

And the expectation so well forsaid
All is dead and so little said
So far beyond I searched that nothing was gleaned
At any cost one day I had to leave

Today I say hello to life
Tomorrow my nights will I no longer need

It is too late to understand
It is too dark to wait

We are always looking for some message to inscribe
At first upon our heart and then at the graveside
So far beyond I searched that nothing could I find
But when my song began the sun began to rise

Wed. 3/26/08 10:59am From: Irene

Thanks for taking the time to do this! I had a feeling I got the translation of the Harmonium title wrong.
