Listener comments!

  9:32am Cubicle Carl:

Are we in a half hour time warp or is it just me?
  9:34am Paul Sherratt:

CC,

All will be explained ... !
  9:34am Doug:

G'morning everyone. We are starting a half hour late today so that JM IN THE AM, the show that precedes this one (on the radio broadcast, not the Web stream) could run long to finish its fundraiser. (They did three days of fundraising this week because the host, Nachum Segal's father died during our marathon three weeks ago.) Thanks for your patience!
  9:36am Parq:

Give the Jewish dude some. Congrats to Nach and his bunch for their amazing (as usual) performance.
  9:44am Bill:

I tuned in late today. I thought you were just waiting for me.
  10:01am Cecile:

Give my condolences to Nach. I am so sorry about his father.
  10:14am Brian Sanders:

Congratulations & condolences seem to be the order of the day. Was it ever thus. Hey Doug, the sun has just come out, your magic is working.
  10:14am Carmichael:

West Coast in the house. Good morning, everyone. And my sincere condolences to Mr. Segal.
  10:17am Syd:

Anyone going to the Desencontro das Aguas show? I'm not.
  10:23am Pamela:

I thought they were just playing one of the best parts of the fundraiser. Unbelievable amount. My condolences to Nachum on his loss.
  10:35am carmichael:

African prog rock. This stuff is pretty cool. Thanks, Doug!
  10:37am Doug:

Carmichael,
Actually, it's African prog rock from Japan, making it even cooler.
  10:37am Cecile:

I love it. These bands appear to have experienced the mindbending powers of Blue Cheer.
  10:40am Hugo:

Doug doing (japanese?) prog, wow! Well, it's free form, innit?

And a tip of the hat to the JM in the AM crew, doing their considerable bit to keep the free form enterprise going for another year!
  10:45am Dickdong (UK):

Fuji came to my village shop and lost a filling eating a toffee. We had all hell on to get him fixed up with a dentist. Turned out ok.
I've now moved on to a different shop selling art materials.
  10:46am XNet:

Does this mean with JM in the AM's money WFMU could still reach the $1 Million?
  10:47am Cecile:

Xnet: they easily did. They were only $19,000 short w/o JM. They passed it!
  10:48am Carmichael:

Cha-ching! My radio never tasted so good.
  10:57am osmutante:

Always gray and moist here in Scotland, sadly.
  10:57am Parq:

Today *alone*, Machem & Co. did well over $50 grand.
  10:57am XNet:

Glad to hear that!
  11:00am Parq:

Ah, the Cachao segment at last!
  11:07am Paul Sherratt:

Dickdong,

The other Fujii, Paul Shearsmith, was the architect for an extension to a local high school ( Nantwich, S. Cheshire, UK ) I wonder if that was when his interest in playing gas-main pipes first started ?
  11:20am spaniel:

wow this last Cachao song is really brightening up my day (Cachao to Pone a Bailar). sounds like it could and should keep going indefinitely.
  11:22am mo from manhattan:

hey doug,
cachao'ing down over here to these might grooves. fantastic blog post, btw.
mo from manhattan
  11:24am Dickdong:

Paul Skerrett. I've known Paul since 1965 when we were in Leeds as students. See the Echo City website to see what he's done since then. With his abiding interest in 'found' instruments, I have no doubt that seeing large yellow pipes on building sites would have cause him great excitement.
  11:26am Dickdong:

Paul Sherratt . Apologies, In my excitement I misspelt you.
  11:51am Wes:

If anyone wants to hear a bunch of whiteboys absolutely NAIL the style that Bo Diddley just layed down with "Prisoner of Love" -- look no further than the new album from Th' Legendary Shack Shakers. Better yet, go see 'em in concert, but bring a tarp. Colonel JD fires snotrockets.
