Listener comments!

  12:08pm Miss V:

Thanks to Joe, I can't leave my desk until he is done Djing!
He dat good.....
  12:11pm Cecile:

ITA! *does the frug*
  12:12pm Sean Daily:

Third comment! Woo hoo!
  12:14pm pat:

Jeeze! Totally forgot about this Lyres tune. Excellent choice.
  12:15pm Cecile:

I love the Lyres. So much.
  12:16pm Miss V:

Stop playing good music I need to pee!
  12:19pm pat:

Lyres were amazing there for a while. They were in their own class in the "garage" world.
  12:20pm Rubble:

You can listen to it all over again this afternoon on the archive Miss P! I mean Miss V!! :) But I know- that's not quite the same as listening in real time. It does come in handy though!
  12:22pm Bad Ronald:

Hi Joe - what other bonus tracks are on the Jesus of Cool reissue. Does it have all of Bowi?
  12:25pm Joe B:

Jesus of cool re-ish - presents the original british LP followed by Shjake that rat, i love my label, they called it rock, born a woman, endless sleep, halfway to paradise, rollers show, cruel to be kind (early version), heart of the city (studio version), I don't want the night to end
  12:27pm Bad Ronald:

Way cool thanks - I love "I Love My
Label" - Excellent show as always. - BR
  12:30pm rob:

I saw Screaming Trees at MIT in Cambridge, MA on the Even If tour. Such a great show. Lots of long hair and wahwah guitar solos.
Oh to be young and in college.....
  12:31pm Bad Ronald:

Nick Rocks

  12:35pm ?:

Can't Make it On Time... another potential Mary Weiss tune.
  12:40pm Bad Ronald:

That solo album is bittersweet...
  12:42pm Bad Ronald:

I handed Joey one of our singles at a show once. It's probably still behind the urinal at the Continental...
  12:49pm Parq:

Ah, the R&RHS concert sequence - some of the best live footage, of any band, ever committed to the screen.
  12:50pm Bad Ronald:

I think they re-recorded the tracks though...
  12:52pm miss v:

I (heart ) the ramones
  12:56pm Parq:

Bad Ron, look at it this way. That whole movie is about the triumph of giddy fantasy over a boring reality. Somewhat tricked-out concert footage fits right into that. Remember, the visuals included the middle-aged music teacher dancing with abandon in his 50s jazz hipster garb.
  12:57pm Bad Ronald:

And a hugh stoned Rat!
  12:57pm Pat:

Joey's buried in Lyndhurst.
  1:01pm Parq:

Ron, excactly. Joe, this Holmes track sounds like what BR5-49 would sound like if they played garage instead of country - sort of "Little Ramona's Gone Hillbilly Nuts" in reverse.
  1:01pm ?:

Yep, Bergen County!
  1:08pm Bad Ronald:

Joe you did it again, I totally love this ENO tune!!!
  1:08pm Jim:

This is the coolest Eno song I *never* heard
  1:13pm Rubble:

Allen Oldies Band Rules! A-L-L-E-N! Who knew ENO and AOB could exist side by side so happily!
  1:23pm Rubble:

Didn't Loggins do Holiday Road too, the Vacation movie tune?
Or am I talkin outta you know where.
  1:27pm Joe B:

Lindsey Buckingham did that one.
  1:28pm Cecile:

Don't look at me. I have a terrible track record on this particular comment section.
  1:30pm Bad Ronald:

Not so Cecile, you're the one who clued me in on 4/1.
  1:31pm Carmichael:

Hey, I actually liked the Pat Todd song, how bout that?!? They sound like the Spanic Boys, one of my twangy faves.
  1:33pm Cecile:

Oh, that's right. But I was wrong on Ron Wood, and confused about Madonna.

BTW, that Stooges performance of Burning up was great!
And i love that Ig still sounds like he's from Meeeeechigan. Unlike Ms. Ciccone.
  1:37pm Bad Ronald:

Cecile - Don't be so hard on yourself.

Yes Iggy's a bit more down to earth than Madonna.
  1:39pm Carmichael:

And you are correct-a-mundo with the Loggins reference (and the Buckingham compser reference, too) from NatLamp's Vacation. I also see a version by Dirt Bike Annie. Intriguing name, but I ain't never hoid of 'em ...
  1:40pm Carmichael:

Iggy still sounds like he's from the bad side of Ann Arbor!
  1:41pm SmokinJ:

Christ I'm blasted..
  1:43pm Cecile:

That would be Ypsilanti!
  1:44pm Carmichael:

Touche. Out here in Californ-eye-ay, I can't tell the difference. But I read books about stuff.
  1:46pm Bad Ronald:

I didn't even know Ypsilanti exists...
  1:48pm Joe B:

Ypsilanti - home of The Hentchmen!
  1:50pm Bad Ronald:

Speaking of IGGY here's a cool short with Tom Waits:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Mw6b1T50U&cad=rhs
Coffe and Cigarettes.
  1:57pm Jim:

What is that playing in the background during the breaks?
  1:58pm Bad Ronald:

Strata Bowling Theme Song
  1:59pm Cecile:

I knew you'd know that, Joe!!!!
  2:01pm Rubble:

Ooooh yeah! Thanks Joe.
  2:08pm Ken:

I used to work in Ypsilanti..
  2:10pm Cecile:

I lived in Ann Arbor and was there a fair amount. There and Pittsfield Towship...
  2:13pm Cecile:

My husband is a proud EMU graduate.
Well, maybe proud is overstating it.
  2:17pm Carmichael:

YES! KINKS!! YES!!!
  2:18pm Ezra:

Dave Davies - greatest unsung guitarist/songwriter?
  2:23pm Carmichael:

This can't be *really* live, can it? People can't scream non-stop like that for a whole friggin' medley, can they? I bet the audience was *augmented* ....
  2:23pm Cecile:

What carm said.
  2:24pm Cecile:

About the kinks. I completely believe they screamed the whole time.
  2:25pm Bad Ronald:

Did you ever hear a Beatles concert?
  2:30pm Carmichael:

Ya, ya, wiseacre, I'm 50. I still say there's more to that audience than reality.
  2:33pm Carmichael:

Thomas Erlewine's review on the AllMusic site seems to agree with alla yous guys about the crowd noise. In fact, that's about the only subject of the whole review!

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:0xfuxqq5ldke
  2:33pm Bad Ronald:

Maybe so, I'm gonna spin the record when I get home and scrutinize...
  2:34pm Joe B:

Don't know about the audience but Well-respected Man and Sunny Afternoon from the same album sound suspiciously like the studio tracks.
  2:35pm Bad Ronald:

Nice research Carmichael - thanks - BR
  2:42pm ?:

Carmichael, are you a cop? have you ever met Wayne Newton?
  2:47pm Carmichael:

Nope. Yep. Once at the Casa de Shenandoah.
  2:47pm Bad Ronald:

Thanks Joe... now you've opened up a whole new can-o-worms...
  2:51pm ?:

Hmm. So you're not THAT Carmichael. I thought your screen name was a character's name, the character was a cop! Forget I asked! :)
  2:53pm ?:

In fact maybe sometime we can get Joe to play the song 'Carmichael' for ya.
  2:54pm Joe B:

No time for the song Carmichael today, sorry! It's a long one and the show is almost over.
  2:54pm Carmichael:

Being in California and, ahem, *of age*, that remark was a bit peculiar. Thanks for providing the context. It's lunchtime on the coast. See you fine folks tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel.
  2:55pm Carmichael:

There's a song? It's probably written about Hoagy anyway ...
  3:02pm ?:

I know Joe, maybe sometime in the future! Good show!
  8:12am Robbie:

Joe, I actually prefer the original "Cruel To Be Kind" from 1976 - I think it was the B-side of "Little Hitler" on Radar Records in the UK. It sounds like a Beatles song. Maybe you can play that one next week? Thanks again.
  6:05am Andy:

thanks for playing The Ace.......Fantastic stuff !
