Listener comments!

Mon. 5/19/08 12:11pm From: listener paul

So is the Cosby track what was sampled in that song by A Tribe Called Quest?

Mon. 5/19/08 12:14pm From: Droll

Paul, according to Wikipedia, yes it is. I was looking to see if Quincy was on that. Q is God, but alas, the track grooves without him.

Mon. 5/19/08 12:14pm From: Woody

according to the internet the Cosby track I just played was sampled on "We Can Get Down"

Mon. 5/19/08 12:16pm From: ?

Ah, thank you! It did sound familiar :-)

Mon. 5/19/08 12:19pm From: Droll

Hot scoots, Woody, you get a Gold Star today already. I miss Donna Summer. He's soooooooo my favorite DJ.

Mon. 5/19/08 12:26pm From: jonathan

caught ya fartin' is one of the best song titles i've ever come across.

Mon. 5/19/08 12:27pm From: Bad Ronald

Nice and crunchy, thanks!

Mon. 5/19/08 12:28pm From: Ed

Oh, yeahh!! This is reminding me of old Indiana noise bands from the 1980s

Mon. 5/19/08 12:33pm From: reba666

AY! leprechaun catering! fantastico baltimore band-- noise folks who are out of the low-zero fest-- i think, perhaps they will be touring with matmos soon... but that may be their sister-act ::snacks:: i highly recommend their vinyl~

Mon. 5/19/08 12:35pm From: Woody

Thanks for the info Reba666... who's in the band?

Mon. 5/19/08 12:41pm From: Wendy du Fromage

ooh! The Slurp! I love this song. Good choice, Woody.

Mon. 5/19/08 12:41pm From: Woody

Hi Wendy, its wacky cut-up remixes by Rockhausen

Mon. 5/19/08 12:43pm From: Ed

7-11 two-fers!!

Mon. 5/19/08 12:44pm From: Cecile

now I want some hot dogs.

Mon. 5/19/08 12:47pm From: Wendy du Fromage

Hi Woody,
Yeah, I had a feeling after a minute or so when other cool sounds started creeping in there. Rockhausen or 7-11... I still like it.

Mon. 5/19/08 12:49pm From: Bad Ronald

Don't Touch My Bikini!!!

"Feeling cranky need a spanky..."

Mon. 5/19/08 1:12pm From: Ed

Oh yeah, noise it up

Mon. 5/19/08 1:39pm From: sueb

whoa! what was that little beeping melody? it is VERY familiar to me!

Mon. 5/19/08 1:42pm From: Woody

Bleeps were off the Marc Tremlay thing... probably something to do with a specific phone ring somewhere?

Mon. 5/19/08 1:58pm From: SueB

IDK - but this predates cell phones.
maybe atari or maybe that's what my tape answering machine sounded like too.
i think i heard it often enough to rememebr it.

Mon. 5/19/08 2:01pm From: Doug

This Paul De Marinis is totally blowing my minds.

Mon. 5/19/08 2:02pm From: SueB

me too doug

Mon. 5/19/08 2:05pm From: Droll

Agreed, the Odd Evening is cool. Steve Vai does something like this w/Zappa on Jazz Discharge Party Hats and again on his first solo record. This is better than both.

Mon. 5/19/08 2:05pm From: Woody

Definitely worth looking into De Marinis' work. He does a lot of interesting sound work that doesn't rely on speakers. He once made water spouts that had water drops of various size so that when they hit an umbrella, it would sound like "Blue Danube"...

Mon. 5/19/08 2:11pm From: Doug

How old is that piece? It seemed like he was somehow triggering the "instrumental" bits via the spoken bits. There's a similar effect on the TTC record from like 2004 where they trigger the beats with the vocal.

Mon. 5/19/08 2:17pm From: Woody

the cd came out in 1991, but don't know how old the piece is. He's from that camp of artists with David Behrman, David Rosenboom, etc. who built their own oscillators, processors, etc but I'm assuming this is a piece for CSound or Music V or something...

Mon. 5/19/08 2:41pm From: Brian in OR

Great show, Woody!

Mon. 5/19/08 2:45pm From: Doug
