Listener comments!

  9:01am dj:

hey Ken.. lets get this show on the road !!! :)
  9:02am tuwhitt:

first time listener!
  9:03am JJZ:

So, in case no one's pointed it out this interview with Robert Smigel, http://www.avclub.com/content/interview/robert_smigel , Andy gets mentioned a few times. Oddly enough it always seems like the ideas that Smigel thought may be a bit too mean were Andy's.
  9:03am vicki:

lovely
  9:05am jonathan:

this song is georgeous!
  9:05am jonathan:

that's right...georgeous. i'm an idiot.
  9:07am tuwhitt:

nice beat action
  9:08am dj:

some about the naive japanese music, that gets me going... fun to try and sing along.
  9:09am -max-:

Good morning, everyone. Finally arrived early enough at work to catch the start.

Hello SWEDEN! Oh, and Zatumbo too!
  9:11am Ken:

Hi all - still getting settled...
  9:12am Listener Dave:

Uh oh
  9:14am Ghengis Jung:

Wow.
  9:20am Listener Dave:

Is this one of those "melodies" Andy keeps going on about?
  9:25am molerat:

Today's co-host: HAL9000.
  9:26am Cecile:

I like rock music. And I like pictures of scottie dogs.
  9:28am john:

confusion, ken - last week you were naked on the show, and this week you feel naked?
  9:28am Cecile:

Willie Nelson wrote that song. Patsy performed it.
  9:28am Ghengis Jung:

Willie Nelson _did_ write that song.
  9:28am patsy:

willie wrote my biggest hit
  9:28am notyourbagman:

gross, ken. you better let us know what happens with that bag.
  9:28am dei xhrist:

yay wednesday AM! That ain't my {evidence} against your office door. At least it's still fresh.
  9:30am dlroth:

you can always replace any train whistle with some FLIPPER
  9:30am Listener Dave:

Wait, did Willie Nelson write Crazy? Somebody tell me!
  9:31am Willie Nelson:

I wrote 'Crazy'!
  9:33am Patsy Cline:

I wrote 'Get Your Freak On'
  9:34am Scottie Dog:

Och, this is the worst Scottie dog site I've ever seen!
  9:34am Listener Dave:

So Flipper wrote Crazy and Patsy Cline covered Get Your Freak on with Willie Nelson. Do I have that right?
  9:34am Crazy:

I'm Willie
  9:34am Cecile:

Yes, but we still don't know who left the severed head in front of Ken's door.
  9:35am cribley:

Dave, he did. Sadly I cannot find a video of him singing it with shorn face.
  9:35am Ken:

I think you are all mistaken. I think Carol King wrote Crazy. And I was not naked on the show last week - that's disgusting! I was naked on Nachum's show - my show handt even begun yet.
  9:37am Carol King:

I didn't write Crazy, but I did leave a bloody wet white bag outside your door.

Call me.
  9:38am vicki:

"Noel Boggs" HA HA HA
  9:39am Cecile:

This show is more fun than a dog and a Roomba:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVyArmEASuc
  9:40am Ken:

Does Boggs have some kind of British
"Bobs Youre Uncle" meaning Vicki? Please let the rest of the class know what's so god damned funny.
  9:40am Doug:

Oh shit, Mojo!! \m/
  9:41am Cecile:

ZOMG - Mojo!!!!!!!
  9:41am Doug:

I just edited his wikipedia entry the other day. It's still a little sloppy.
  9:42am Ghengis Jung:

I'm afraid! Save me from the MIDNITE FUNK!
  9:42am cribley:

Did he say 'smurph on your back'?
  9:42am Cecile:

What is Mojo up to these days?
  9:43am vicki:

I just don't thinkhaving "Boggs" as a surname really starts you off so well in life. And to then call your son "Noel" on top of that, imagine. Plus he was probably born on Christmas Day so only got one lot of presents a year
  9:46am mila kunis fan:

g'morning ken & everybody, funk is grooooooooovy!!!! i'm just gettin started---yall gonna see alot of me later this morn. i'm now a full fledged member of the funk association!!
  9:46am scott:

Thanks - I grew up in detroit during the early 80's --I had forgot about the quality of radio we had at the time.
  9:50am Listener Dave:

So Noel Boggs wrote "Get Your Freak On" with Carole King and left a severed head in front of Ken's office door. Do I have that right?
  9:50am jtm:

so who is going to the seven second delay party tonight?
  9:50am fishmonkeystew:

Good Morning Ken!! I was wondering, wass there any relation between Dock Boggs and Noel Boggs?
  9:51am Ken:

I think Mojo has retired. We should track him down and get him on WFMU at least for a guest slot.
  9:52am vicki:

Yes, they had the same surname
  9:52am Cecile:

That would be awesome, Ken.

"Remember when you're at the end of your rope, tie a knot in the end and HANG ON!"
  9:52am Ghengis Jung:

Speaking of Carol King, and hitting:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEFL3VcrERY
  9:54am kham:

Krysta NOW! The Future will be even more futuristic then we ever imagined.
  9:54am lexray:

Satanicpornocultshop/ get your freak on ..that on any cd?
  9:55am Negator:

'Teen Horniness' is answering alot of old questions, Ken! Thanks for setting me free! Now, what were that nannys digitz.......
  9:57am dc pat:

you could probably improve any song by adding Prado's "Uh!"s to it
  10:00am dei x:

Prado is perfect for people watching. There's always someone moving to a matching beat.
  10:02am vicki:

The Satanicpornocultshop album I believe is called Orochi Under The Straight Edge Leaves.
  10:02am Doug:

Where is my whammy cloth
  10:04am one tanned blonde:

ken-please i wanna hear some ohio players. ohhhh ken CHEERS for bringin back iwrin and JEERS for bringin back professor dum dum,,
  10:06am lekray:

thanx vicki
  10:07am Bad Ronald:

BEATLES!
  10:08am leamington spa jim:

Brennan won't like this
  10:08am dc pat:

man, do I like this song--like it so much Yellow Sub is the only Beatles album I don't own so I'll never get sick of this song.
  10:09am Listener Dave:

This would sound aweosme in Traktor....
  10:10am dc pat:

just listen to those DRUMS!!! GO RINGO!
  10:11am sebastian in santiago:

first time i hear you play original, un-ironic fabfour material, no mashup, no cover. AND IT IS THE RIGHT SONG!
  10:14am db in T.O.:

I believe you are confusing two entirely different Detroit radio DJ's. Electrifying Mojo and Dave Dixon's voices, personalities, and audiences where entirely different. EM was highly produced for black/R&B radio audiences most active in the 1980's, whereas DD's delivery was very dry but full of background info aimed at prog rock audiences on late 60's/early 70's hippy stations like the legendary WABX. Later on in the 90's an aging DD was heard on public radio WDET and "new rock" 89X before he died in the early 2000's.
  10:14am Framinator:

I've never understood that song. How can all "the love that's flying all around" be too much to take? Can too much love be a bad thing?
  10:15am Doug:

Electrifying Mojo's real name was Charles Johnson.
  10:16am vicki:

Charles Boggs Johnson
  10:16am Bad Ronald:

Yes, according to Alice Cooper you can "Love it to Death".
  10:16am Arthur Jensen:

Play some Flipper!

Is that clear Mr. Beale!
  10:17am Laurie:

Good morning, Ken. Did you hear about McCain's balls?

http://www.friendsoftom.com/forum/index.php/topic,3194.0.html
  10:19am bonnie swanson:

PLEASE play more beatles rock on ken!!!=)
  10:20am Ken:

db - I think you may be confusing Detroit with Noel Boggs. I stand by my error.
  10:20am spaniel:

ken, if all else fails, have Andy play the "don't say no" game. that NEVER gets old and it worked last time in public.
  10:20am Negator:

Bonzo Doo Dah Dog Band!
  10:21am Snark:

yes, please play more beatles. while you are at it, please change your call letters to WAXQ. please leave you keys with jim kerr on your way out.
  10:21am Bad Ronald:

"My Pink Half of the Drainpipe"
  10:22am Laurie:

Yes, I find your horrible band name extremely offensive.
  10:22am SueB:

this show is exploiting my coffee buzz
  10:23am Bad Ronald:

"Lookout There's a Monster Coming"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLdA4zKp-00
  10:24am Kamil:

Hey, thans for a good show, Ken. Where does this Au Paris' song come from? I can't find much info about them!
  10:26am Negator:

lOVE THAT VID bAD rONALD! lOOK OUT!
  10:26am Jim Kerr:

You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Ken, and I won't have it. Is that clear?

Now go out there and give us some Flipper
  10:29am Dickdong:

What's all this Beatles stuff? I want to hear something I haven't heard before - which is almost everything you play.
However I wouldn't mind hearing Yoko Ono 'Paper Shoes' again.
  10:30am Bad Ronald:

Me too Negator - It cracks me up everytime!!!
  10:33am C:

That movie can't be worse than Southland Tales--the movie that features the teen horniness song
  10:33am Scott Muni:

Aaarrggg!
  10:35am efd:

good for you, Ken! I too refuse to speak that band's name aloud.
  10:35am Listener Mike in California:

Ken's time slot makes getting to work on Wednesday something to look forward to. The music selection reminds me that good, compelling radio is not dead. Thanks Ken. P.S. I love the "freak out moments" when you start yelling and ranting (or maybe it's just how you like to run down the playlist). Cheers.
  10:35am johN:

I've got ants in my pants, and not in a good way.
  10:35am spaniel:

bad ronald, that video is so ridiculous. i love it. i think i just heard this on scott williams show recently followed by an amazing song about "little rosa".
(audio stream)
http://www.wfmu.org/listen.ram?show=27229&archive=42765&starttime=1:45:57
  10:38am kamil:

Ken, what's the name of the John Peel compilation again?
  10:39am Negator:

A peck on the cheek does it for me!
  10:39am dei x:

the best radio is the radio that carries on despite the listener.
  10:40am Bad Ronald:

Way cool, thanks Spaniel.
  10:43am bwalker:

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaassssseeee let me know

I like the way that sounds on the radio
  10:44am one tanned blonde:

ken--i never even heard of TATU whut kind of music do they play?? well this is my last comment of the week i gotta work more on my tan. see you next week. this show is ALWAYS grooovy,,love u lots=)=)=) keep rockin!!
  10:44am -max-:

I just have to say that the playlist comment box successfully satisfies most of the void left by the death of the message board. The blather box less so.
  10:45am kamil:

TATU are teenager russian lesbians playing nice songs and singing in russian.
  10:47am Ken:

Egad - Sorry if I blew out anybody's eardrums right there!!! It's not my fault!
  10:48am Ken:

Whatchyou talking about, bwalker?
  10:48am Bill O:

Ken, do what I do....DO IT LIVE
  10:48am bwalker:

I liked the way the 'please let me know' comment sounded on the radio - the computer sounded so sad and desperate!
  10:50am Listener Dave:

Hello Larry starred McLean Stevenson. He's dead now, which is probably why he sounds so desperate on his messages to Ken. Which also explains the bag of meat, I suppose.
  10:52am Bill O:

First time commenter, fourth time listener, and have got to say that this is the easily the fifth best show on WFMU
  10:52am cribley:

Barry never sounded so good.
  10:52am Henry:

What was the cool choir-ish music behind the "i can send these titles" part?
  10:53am Ike:

Who else has no power? Thanks to FMU for entertaining me via Walkman and car radio last night when I had nothing else to do (besides reading an old paperback by flashlight). Even the movie theater -- four towns over in Clifton -- was closed last night. Fortunately Neawrk didn't get hit as badly as Belleville and Nutley.
  10:54am Cecile:

You listened to more than five shows, right?

I think it was the Chi-Lites, "have you seen her"
  10:54am Toni Daytona:

now this is real SOUL music.....You can feel the soul in that voice. The sort of musci EFD might play
  10:54am Ghengis Jung:

Is this the Swedish Chef?
  10:56am Cecile:

I love Southern college marching bands SO MUCH!
  10:57am cribley:

That picture is begging for "enhancement".
  10:57am Adrian in London:

This marching band music has roused me from a post-lunch slump.
  10:57am dei x:

Hey Ike, that actually sounds like a fun vacation. Provided the temperature was tolerable and you were some place dry.
  11:00am Negator:

Larry......
  11:01am Ghengis Jung:

I am so depressed.
  11:01am dc pat:

anybody notice how much this tune sounds like the theme from You Only Live Twice? anybody notice they were both written by JOHN BARRY. It also reminds me of a Beach Boys tune that is escaping me right now....
  11:03am Ike:

Dei X: Nope, I love on the third floor of my building, so even after the storm cooled things off, it remained about 90 or 95 in my apt., esp. without fans to help ventilate. Tried to sleep in my car, but it's not comfy enough. Driving through mazes of downed branches and power lines in Belleville and Nutley was an adventure though.

Do they make battery-powered fans in a big huge size?
  11:05am dc pat:

guess I was thinking of Warmth of the Sun by the BBs
  11:08am Ghengis Jung:

'Warmth of the Sun' was covered by Brian Wilson's father, Murray, on "The Many Moods of Murray Wilson"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Many_Moods_of_Murry_Wilson
  11:14am Laurie:

Oooooh, this is the song from the naked video.
  11:15am Doug:

I'm feeling all 80s-ish
  11:15am Negator:

Chin up Ghengis. Depression is the new Happy! 21st Century welcomes you!
  11:19am Cecile:

Ghengis, I saw you in the trailer for that movie Mongol. Lookin' good!
  11:19am Ghengis Jung:

thanks negator...
hurray!
  11:19am Laurie:

JULIO?!?!!!!
  11:24am billyjam:

hey Ken - thanks for playing Jinx Lennon - great show today!
  11:25am Laurie:

Hello, Ken.
  11:27am Raj:

Hey, buddy. Sorry I'm late.
  11:28am Ypsilanti Doug:

If there are going to be two Dougs, we'll have to identify ourselves.
  11:28am Andy in Berlin:

Hey are you going to be taking calls on SSD tonight? I'm so bummed that I'm 6 timezones away from the party!
  11:33am Doug of Canada:

There ya go
  11:33am dei x:

Andy, you & me can have our own little time/space isolated SSD parties. Spinsterbation!
  11:35am Ken:

No Andy, no calls tonight. Sorry!
  11:35am JJZ:

Ah, I like this song, with the pops and whistles and all.
  11:38am Andy in Berlin:

I'm not surprised, but I was hoping. I'll be rooting for you, though!
  11:41am Raj:

Oh, I thought my days of rooting for people having parties from far away were over...

THEY PULL ME BACK IN!!!
  11:46am Laurie:

Oh, Miss Bardot. Je t'aime.
  11:48am Laurie:

I hear my favorite Serge song sampled! Bonnie and Clyde!
  11:59am Ghengis Jung:

  2:25pm Listener Dave:

Tim Wink! TIm Wink of the Tim Wink Memorial Train Whistle????
  7:47pm Tim Wink:

The same!

Laurie - Minneapolis is a great city to see Melt Banana play in. They once broke the 7th St Entry's attendance record, which had up until then been held by Babes in Toyland.
  9:35pm ozzy skateboard:
