Listener comments!

  9:17am Bad Ronald:

Morning Doug!
  9:25am fishmonkeystew:

Give da drumma some!!! Woohoo!!

Good morning, Doug!
  9:35am Hugo:

Jimmy Reed, yes, yes, unmistakable - after about two seconds.

Good morning/good afternoon - whatever, it's Doug time!
  9:36am fishmonkeystew:

D'oh, good morning Brycedoug!
  9:37am Parq:

Greetings. Still savoring my order of surf 'n' tech from Hot Rod's anniv show, but Gumbo a la Schulkind makes an ace second course. (Or is "ace second" an oxymoron?)
  9:40am T:

What's the word for, "This music makes sitting in front of this box/monitor combo this morning a whole lot nicer" ?
  9:44am Paul Sherratt:

Hugo,

Do Jimmy Reed fans also enjoy the sounds of Lazy Lester, I wonder ?

http://www.lazylester.net/
  9:56am g:

am I the only one who can't get the #$*&^! stream to work this morning? alas, there's friday the 13th for you . . .
  9:57am Hugo:

Paul,

his credentials are impeccable. The original "I hear you knockin'" ... ?
  10:02am Bad Ronald:

Da Da Ya Ya
  10:04am molerat:

I heard Marie Osmond doing Hugo Ball earlier this week. Now it's Kurt Schwitters. It's been a dada kind of week at FMU.
  10:06am Bad Ronald:

I dug the Marie Osmond vid too!
  10:07am Bad Ronald:

coincidentally I was listening to "Kurt's Rejoinder" earlier today...
  10:07am streamtroubletoo:

@g: stream trouble, too
  10:08am Ted from Baltimore:

Jaap Blonk = Zatumba's smarter brother!
  10:09am fishmonkeystew:

You see, it's the fact that you folk play stuff like this that makes me love this station. Awesome.

No stream problems here. I'm listening using VLC.
  10:11am Hugo:

Sami people from Norrbotten - Northern Sweden? Sure doesn't sound like Swedish to me.
  10:12am dc pat:

say, how about some Ed Schneider?
  10:12am marionfrenchie:

iva Bittova is an artist whom you should never miss when she gives a show in your area, no matter how many times you've already seen her!
  10:13am marionfrenchie:

lovin' the 'dada' set!!!
  10:21am dc pat:

ok, Jeanne Lee is freakin' me out.. like some sultry teacher whispering in my ear...
  10:30am Hugo:

Jeanne Lee, an obvious choice. From my part of the woods, I would recommend Maja Ratkje (who has collaborated with Jaap Blonk among others). Saw her a couple of weeks back and had a brief chat afterwards.
  10:36am Gregory:

Doug, you may be interested in a chapter on those post-surgical infections in Atul Guwande's most recent book, "Better." There is an irony in the contrast between all our medical technology and skill on the one hand, and the fact that these infections are spread simply because people don't wash their hands. I'm glad to hear that your father recovered. Anyway, the chapter is most interesting, as is the whole book.
  10:45am Doug:

Gregory,
I read the piece from Atul's book in the New Yorker. I have been following the various issues concerning hand-washing and the simple checklists medical personnel should follow doing basic things like inserting IV lines and such. Amazingly, there is huge resistance from the hospital community on instituting checklists. It's fucking nuts!
  10:54am jonathan:

spent much time in a hospital with a very ill friend.
it is fucking nuts. found myself yelling at many a doc.
  10:56am GUMBY:

The Voyage reminds me of that Lalo Schifflin piece The Chains. Both contain that awful imagry of the African slaves voyage accross the Oceans. Stunning work to convert the image to sound, but terrible that it is necessary to document.
  11:00am Hugo:

You have to be healthy to get through hospitalisation ...
  11:02am GUMBY:

Getting through the phone maze haze of your healthcare provider will kill ya'.
  11:03am Ted from Baltimore:

This song makes me remember to ask whether anyone has been to the St. John Coltrane Church in S.F.? If there's one musician who deserves his own religion ...
  11:05am Parq:

May I inject a small counter-point? Decades ago, before my own kid was born, I volunteered in the neo-natal ICU of a local hospital. Hand-scrubbing was a diligently enforced requirement. If you moved from one baby to another, you did a three minute scrub first. If you forgot yourself and touched something on the floor, you did a three minute scrub before you did anything further.

Oiga, I'm not gainsaying anything anyone else is saying. I just want to point out that there are small pockets of good medical sense being practiced out there.
  11:22am Carmichael:

I kinda dig this fuzz guitar salsa rock thing. Reminds me of Malo.
  11:24am PMD:

Ack! website blew up!
  11:25am Carmichael:

Ya, what was the Hernan Rocha thing? He seems to have vanished ...
  11:27am Doug:

The Hernan Rocha was, apparently, way "out of phase." I got frantic calls from multiple people in the FMU office upstairs. I am hearing the feed right off the control board, not the actual air signal, so I couldn't hear it. Had to to abort.
  11:44am Paul Sherratt:

'Aaj Ki Raat' always hits that spot .. let everywhere be brimful of Asha !
  11:47am Hugo:

I've always wanted to see a genuine Bollywood Western ... or should that be Eastern. Cowgirls in saris ... yes, yes ...
  11:51am richard:

Awesome stuff Doug! That laughing song is trippy as hell!
  11:52am Sean Daily:

Hugo: Would you want it played straight or like a parody? Imagine a spaghetti western with Bollywood songs...
  11:55am Hugo:

I'd go for a curry Western ...
  11:57am ken:

one of the people at the desk next to me is a young, Indian intern, she is practically singing along with all your selections. You're doing something right. She knows them all, though she said Baghon Mein Bahar Hai was something her dad listens to. And Dheem Thana Thana Nana was South Indian.
  11:59am Peter:

that last set was wonderful!
  1:56pm Richard Duvigneaud:

Jimmy Reed and Lazy Lester rock!!! Nice set
