Listener comments!

  9:27am Hatch:

That Tex Carman song was fantastic, I'd never heard anything by him before. My girlfriend knew what it was right away... maybe she should be on FMU instead of me!
  9:30am GUMBY:

Good morning Doug. I enjoyed last weeks show, which I just got around to listening to yesterday. Love those archives. I particularly loved "God Bless America - For What" I never get the God Bless America thing. A supreme being that adheres to political borders sounds like bullshit to me.
  9:31am Doug:

When Tex Carman gets to yodeling: Look out!
  9:36am Doug:

Gumby, My first or second show back on the air after 9/11, I titled the playlist "Will God Bless Ecuador Too?" or something like that. I think it's kinda idiotic how we silly little mortals think God cares a lick about national borders or sports teams and such.
  9:36am Paul Sherratt:

Hatch,

Missed that Jenks a few minutes ago to take a delivery but as Doug has just pointed out watch out for his yodeling - especially on this classic Bear Family collection " Hillbilly Hula "
Hilo March , The Caissons Go Rolling Along being particularly memorable.

It'll be on an archive somewhere
  9:41am David:

Good morning Doug--a pleasure to hear you as always.
  9:56am GUMBY:

Doug I guess we agree that we should approach the world that maybe everyone is not our best friend, but we need to be more global and less national.
  10:00am ken:

nice open trumpet sounds on those last two. and i like the very 'live' sound of the studios... booker little-ish, unless it's him?
  10:02am Doug:

Ken,
On the Yusef track, Wilbur Harden was on flugelhorn; on the Lou Black number track, Freddie Hill was trumpeting.
  10:11am Miki:

Oh yeah! BOB!
Merci, Doug!
  10:17am Hugo:

Ah, Chris McGregor! I drank a glass of Castle Lager in his honour in Berlin a week or two ago. And a Jamaican Red Stripe and a etc etc etc ...
  10:31am Paul Sherratt:

Hugo,
Did you travel to Berlin for that purpose ?
  10:57am Hugo:

Paul,

just one of life's pleasant surprises to find a Berliner bierstube with about 100 different brands, including that one. The mood among the locals was variable, on the first visit, Germany won against Russia and on the second, they lost against Spain in the Eurocup finals.

It would be over the top to go to Cape Town for that purpose, possibly ...
  11:02am nEGATOR:

Coke Escovedo plays on the Malo record I just bought at the thrift store couple days ago. Do you like Malo or heard of them? Santana's younger brothers band. I thought it was funny the guys name was Coke.
  11:14am Doug:

Just snatched some Malo the other day. A fine blog has been posting some good Latin Rock recently. Go here:

http://hippy-djkit.blogspot.com/search?q=Malo
  11:21am Colin:

I think if this guy sings the chorus just one more time I'm going to have the taste of bullet in my mouth soon.
  11:23am Colin:

BANG.
  11:25am north guinea hills:

very nice a capellas, doug... tuning in late b/c i was going through the cumbia rebajada cd comps my gf brought back w/ her from mexico.....
  11:29am nEGATOR:

Thanks, DOug! Love the blogs so much! I want to start one of my own.
  11:33am Paul Sherratt:

Hamish Imlach

Born in Calcutta but claimed to have beeen conceived in Glasgow .. I believe him.

  11:40am north guinea hills:

awesome Paul! thanks for the link!
  11:45am Harvey:

This is so great
  11:50am Hugo:

That trumpet on the Thiam track does sound familiar ... hmmm ...
  11:54am Doug:

Hugo,
Why it was Lester Bowie, but you knew that!
  11:56am GUMBY:

Love the Africa stuff from the 70's. Another premo show Doug
  12:09pm G:

What is this playing right now?
  12:10pm sm:

sounds like Sir Bishop
  12:10pm g:

anyone?
  12:15pm aa:

  2:11pm G:

someone left the list open after the show -- i'm sure they'll notice at some point lol
  3:24pm aa:
