Listener comments!

  11:04pm
Jessica:

Starting with the Spiders [from Mars]! Woo!
  11:04pm
Droll:

Bowie -- a fine way to defend your title as soooooo my favorite DJ.
  11:06pm
john:

Evan, just got your premium CD. If stagflation and sky-high gas prices hadn't already been convinced the 70s were back, that totally sealed the deal. Staggeringly good fun, even without Henry Gross (ahem)!

John
  11:07pm
efd:

John, just wait til vol. 2!
Jessica + Droll, glad you enjoyed the Bowie! hopefully this Italo-disco version doesn't ruin it for you mere moments later.
  11:07pm
john:

"hadn't already convinced me," that is...
  11:11pm
Laurie:

Hiiiiii Evan. I got my swag and look forward to listening to your premium! I'm too busy preparing for my trip to Chicago and would be tempted to rip all of my premiums to iTunes, and that's just too time consuming! For now, anyway.
  11:12pm
efd:

Sybil or Joe, are you out there? I can haz all-star game update? Did anyone in Yankee Stadium actually cheer for J.D. Drew?
  11:12pm
Droll:

Is it too much to ask for Stars by Hum, one of my all-time fave shoegazers?
  11:14pm
Randy in NC:

NL 3 - AL 2
  11:14pm
efd:

hmm, that might indeed be too much. I'm also not likely it is that it's in the FMU library.
(thanks, Randy!)
  11:16pm
Randy in NC:

NL went ahead off Papelbon. It was an error,
It's the bottom of the 8th now.
  11:18pm
Randy in NC:

Before the start of the game, the NYY fans were oh so gracious to Francona and co.
  11:21pm
Randy in NC:

3-3 end of the 8th
  11:21pm
john:

As a Mets fan, I can confidently state that Wagner just had a patented big-game moment.
  11:21pm
efd:

yeah, i was at the parade this afternoon for a while and the Sox who rolled by did not get a friendly reception.
Except from me, of course.
  11:22pm
toni daytona:

how was your weekend evan?? my weekend really terrific,,,one i will NEVER FORGET!!! evan tell me what you think,,should TONI D.stay or go?? question of the nite,,,=)=)=) keep rockin efd!!!
  11:22pm
Jessica:

Mm, starry night.

We also got our awesometastic EFD CD today. It was all singing all dancing, as I read through the tracklist, then got to KRISTY AND JIMMY MCNICHOL and had a full-on 4th-grade-nostalgia meltdown.
  11:24pm
E.L.:

I think this is the first time baseball upstaged the Evan "Funk" Davies show for me. I didn't even notice what time it was!
  11:27pm
efd:

completely understandable, E.L.!
glad to hear everyone's getting their premiums!
  11:28pm
Laurie:

This song is epic. We're staaaaaaaaaaaaars.
  11:28pm
Droll:

Star songs covering all 50 years of WFMU! Damn fine set, EFD.
Oh boy -- Hear'n'Aid! I'm glad I wore my brown pants for the show today. Look at that solo lineup!
  11:28pm
Laurie:

Evan "Funk" Davies, you're the staaaaaaaaaaar.
  11:29pm
E.L.:

Even as a Red Sox fan I have to appreciate Mariano Rivera coming onto the field to this Hear 'n Aid track.
  11:31pm
Tom (The Bactrian Support Network):

This number never it hit me right but listening it to it again over 20 years latter - kinda nice .. all the style guitars and all even though I must say MOST (NOT ALL) heavy Metal Bands kind of after a while by the mid'80's just came "" Out of Ciggarette Machines""" ( like in the same way Disco KILLED the Funk (( Mainstream that is anyway )) but we now have WFMU !!!!! and we are ALL STARS **************
  11:32pm
toni d.:

i'm a all star!!!!!!!
  11:41pm
cheri:

  11:42pm
Randy in NC:

  11:52pm
efd:

  11:55pm
toni d.:

evan why the silent treatment??
  11:55pm
E.L.:

What if Rivera gets the loss? Does that count as a BoSox victory after all the Papelbon hate?
  11:55pm
Randy in NC:

still tied, middle of the 10th
  11:57pm
chelsea:

weird covers are my fav!
  12:01am
efd:

i think we can have a Red Sox victory of sorts without Mariano being embarassed.
Although if it comes to that, I'll take it.
  12:02am
efd:

hi Toni, didn't mean to ignore you! hope you had a good birthday weekend in Wildwood!
  12:04am
E.L.:

AL leaves three stranded. Ouch.
  12:04am
toni daytona:

  12:13am
toni d.:

evan thanks again for your b-day wishes but gotta scoot,,see u next week,,,g'nite lots of love=)=)=)
  12:17am
john:

Great set, bunch of my fave rave new records and then twilley! Perfect end to kind of a suck-ass day which was otherwise going to end with a break-up a few hours ago. Cool beans.
  12:27am
Randy in NC:

top of the 12th still 3 all
  12:27am
efd:

thanks John, glad I was able to provide a slightly less sucky end to your day
  12:28am
efd:

jeez! who's pitching? and who's left in the bullpen??
I'm telling you, Selig's gotta be shitting bricks.
  12:30am
john:

Owe you one, bro. Think it's Soria from KC in his second inning. Selig must be shitting bricks indeed, which only shows there's upside to everything.
  12:31am
cheri:

efd?? have a grooooovy night
  12:32am
efd:

ok, goodnight Toni/Cheri!
  12:40am
efd:

i guess i can forget about the end of the all-star game being on the DVR... i only recorded til midnight
  12:46am
john:

Sure can, we're going to the 13th. Selig's going to activate the Hall of Famers from the parade. Bob Feller's warming in the bullpen.
  12:47am
E.L.:

Don't worry, it'll still be going when you get home.
  12:52am
john:

Great album! Guess you can't play Ted F$$$ing Williams?
  12:53am
efd:

haha, i wish! maybe if i do a web morning show sometime...
  12:54am
C:

Looks like I've missed a great show and game. But just came back from seeing Nomo. I don't know anything about music, but this was just an incredible event. If you get a chance, definitely check them out. It's hard to beat a mean live set of horns!
  1:05am
Jessica:

It's *what* from *who*?
  1:05am
efd:

you heard me!
  1:08am
efd:

you can't deny the awesomeness of a 2CD concept album about Nostradamus.
Just sayin'.
  1:18am
E.L.:

It's still going! I think each team still has a pitcher squirreled away too. EVERYONE is so bored. It's fantastic.
  1:19am
E.L.:

ANOTHER BIG DIPPER SHOW!?
  1:20am
efd:

that's what it says in the Cherry Blossom Clinic blurb! Sept 30 at the Paradise
  1:21am
efd:

Laurie, are you still out there? I was so distracted by the all-star game I forgot to say have a good trip to Chicago!
  1:23am
C:

I never realized how sinister this song is. really threatening
  1:25am
Droll:

EFD, you should do some PSAs recruiting for your army. Kiss had an army. Harry has an Action Army. You could have a Funk Army! Tastemaker Army!
  1:30am
efd:

Droll, you might be onto something there!
(As is C regarding "See You In September" - stalker alert for sure!)
  1:33am
C:

Yeah. It's funny how some songs can become so familiar that you don't even think about them.

By the way, I missed the Bowie stuff, but did you check out the "Golden Years" cover played on Trent's show last night? It was great.
  1:37am
E.L.:

AL WINS! AL WINS!
  1:37am
Randy in NC:

4-3 AL 15 innings!
  1:38am
C:

Loved the Francona reaction face
  1:39am
Randy in NC:

  1:39am
E.L.:

4 hours 50 minutes
  1:42am
efd:

unbelievable... thanks for the updates, guys!
  1:55am
E.L.:

Catch you later, Evan. Thanks for the all star soundtrack.
  1:56am
efd:

goodnight E.L., and everyone else! thanks for staying up!
  1:56am
Joe:

Well I'll be damned if, in a sleepy little tavern in the heart of North Jersey, a fine young Sox player named J.D. Drew got a standing ovation from some of the most die hard Yanks fans I've ever had the pleasure of drinking with. He's a good kid, he deserves it. 2nd best part of the night was listening to Joe Buck drop subtle hints that the game was going on for way too freaking long.

Hmm, Harry Harrison and Hear 'n Aid. I'm gonna have to check the archives on this one tomorrow.

Or I might just do it right now. I'm crazy like that.
  1:59am
efd:

very nice! i'm sorry i missed the game, but i dont even know if i could have stayed up for the whole thing!
  10:19am
Jeb:

The Lighthouse hit you were probably trying to remember is "One Fine Morning". A great Canadian band of the 70's. One of the members is now an engineer, working here in Ottawa (the nation's capital).
