Listener comments!

  3:03pm
Lizardner Dave:

Hello Irwin. Nice to see you again. The birght orange of your playlist is much warmer than the cold, cold blackness of Ken's playlist or the icy whiteness of Kenny G's.
  3:13pm
Steve Barton:

Q. What do Obama and Osama have in common?
A. They both have friends who bombed the Pentagon.
  3:17pm
barney:

they rhyme with "yer mama"?
  3:21pm
Otis:

Pretty music there mister dj
  3:21pm
Sean Daily:

Steve: Waitaminnit, when did Obama's friends bomb the... what are you talking... HUH?

The reference obviously went right over my head...
  3:24pm
Steve Barton:

Sean: Look up Bill Ayers, another subject not often mentioned in mainstream news and discussions. All the best. -- Steve

I shall, Steve. Innerestin'...

lloyd:

Bill Ayers is a famous NY Times contributor. He wrote a fascinating piece that was published on 9/11/2001. Worth checking out his patriotic views.
  3:28pm
gigantor:

Muchas gracias, Irwin!
  3:31pm
Lizardner Dave:

Yep, Steve's right. Obama and former Weather Underground memeber BIll Ayers were both on the board of a Chicago charity organization at the same time! Wow! Quite the smoking gun!

Good thing the Dems have that fact hidden away in an obscure place like Wikipedia. Nobody reads that!

(This is not intented to be pro-or anti-Obama. I just have no patience for people of any ideological stripe who "uncover conspiracies" that turn out to be, well, not so much.)
  3:35pm
jon:

Oh my... your music, Irwin, is making me very happy. Or at least "Come as you are" was truly bubbly.

Thanks.

  3:37pm
Otis:

Abba Pain! And I love Abba.
  3:38pm
Steve Barton:

Chipmunks?! Yikes.
  3:39pm
gigantor:

If this was Ken or Kenny I'd accuse you of playing this at the wrong speed! I think we have to have more Mini-Pops in the future.
  3:40pm
Otis:

You make me want to break out my Stars on 45 records.
  3:42pm
Yo:

Yo man
  3:45pm
Dean C. Rowan:

A William Bolcom rag! Magnificent, even when tickled by Winston.
  3:46pm
Otis:

Nice. George Winston. Haven't heard his music in years. Winter is a fantastic album.
  3:53pm
Steve Barton:

Please Mr. DJ, may I go find the Soulful Dynamics MySpace page? I can't resist any song that starts with that choogling sound...
  4:12pm
gigantor:

from the Soul Parasol myspace page (translated by google):
WARNING: in some people, any abuse of the contents of this page may cause unrest caraibesques (limbo dancing, Junkanoo, goombay, etc. ...)
  4:30pm
gigantor:

Ake ended his days in this world as a rollerskiing cloth salesman and after his death the Swedish government actually had all his belongings, including all his records, destroyed and burnt!
(From the Ake Sandid Myspace page, that Irwin will NEVER look at)
  4:31pm
gigantor:

Does anyone know what "rollerskiing cloth" is?
  4:33pm
Irwin:

Gigantor, when I declare that I will not visit ANYONE's myspace page, I command others to go forth and do my bidding. Thanks for the report of Mr. Sandin's unfortunate demise. The world lost an obscure but not insignificant talent, and his government has committed unpardonable sins against Swedish culture.
  4:38pm
gigantor:

yes, my lord and master. I shall go forth and do thy bidding. Sandin seems like he was quite acharacter. And you might be interested in knowing that you are prominently mentioned on his myspace page.
  4:39pm
Steve Barton:

I hear and obey. Never liked 'em anyway.
  4:41pm
Steve:

"Rollerskiing cloth" is hoot-worthy, whatever it might be.
  4:47pm
north guinea hills:

i've been trying to figure who did "dream all day" since 1992 when i woke up at 3am and heard it playing on mtv..., but i never saw who did the song..... weird.....
  4:51pm
Irwin:

Gigantor wrote: "And you might be interested in knowing that you are prominently mentioned on his myspace page."

Nice try, big guy.
  4:55pm
Steve Barton:

Knock knock.
Who's there?
Barack Obama.
That's racist.
*****
Previous Obama joke (posted near top of comments) req'd info not in common circulation, hindering amusement. And the joke above is a pale (ha!) imitation of the succinct classic: Why did the feminist cross the road? That's not funny.
*****
I haven't heard or seen an Obama joke half as entertaining or amusing as a few minutes of listening to the Mini Pops. Maybe that's why we aren't hearing them around here.
  4:55pm
Otis:

Whoa! Cool! I gave Stevie this album as his Dad, Bob Moore is playing Bass on It's Cool in the Furnace.
  5:00pm
lloyd:

Andy Borowitz posted a list of jokes approved by the Obama campaign. Sample:

A Christian, a Jew and Barack Obama are in a rowboat in the middle of the ocean. Barack Obama says, "This joke isn't going to work because there's no Muslim in this boat."
  5:01pm
Drew:

Re: north... That same thing happened to me with the cool song "X-French T-Shirt" by the shitty band Shudder to Think. I ended up buying their album like 5 years later when I found out who it was. And it sucked.
  5:03pm
Steve Barton:

Ha! And did God just say "Well done" about the three guys in the furnace?!
  5:04pm
north guinea hills:

that made me chuckle, drew.... ...shudder to think..... wow...
  5:19pm
Sean Daily:

lloyd: Can you put up a link to that link of Obama-approved jokes?
  5:22pm
lloyd:

don't know how to post linx on this forum. it was on the huffpo july 15
  5:25pm
Sean Daily:

lloyd: All you should need to to do is cut and paste the URL into the comment box. You can't click it, but you can copy it. 'Least, that's how I've always done it... the one time that I actually did it.

But I'll head over to HuffPo and check it out after work.

Hi Irwin

Im with you there on the TV tip.
  5:37pm
Sean Daily:

TV was everywhere, but now its EEVVEERRYYWWHHEERREE where where where echo reverb...
  5:38pm
Steve Barton:

There's one peeking out of my wife's blouse!
  5:38pm
hjmaiere:

So I decide to check out the playlist comments to see if there's some explanation for the totally weird vibe this particular show seems to have, and all I see is Obama. That doesn't quite explain it.
  5:39pm
Audie Ence:

Irwin, agree on TV. I got one of these, and voila, TV-B-Gone: http://www.tv-b-gone.com. Great fun!
  5:41pm
Mike:

TV story. I was bartending once and there was no one in the bar but two men having lunch. All 4 TVs were apparently being ignored and so I jumped at my chance to turn them all off. No sooner had I done that one of the guys protested. I apologized. "I'm sorry, I didn't see anyone paying attention to them. Where you watching something?" "Well, no," he answered, "I just liked having it on." I turned it on then retreated to the kitchend to bury my hands in my face for the fate of humanity. Dramatic? Maybe? TV hater? Certainly.
  5:41pm
Steve Barton:

I think the vibe of this show is great, but if it is weird it might be because Irwin has restrained himself from playing any Star Country today. Let it loose Ir-Man!
  5:42pm
Mike:

Forgive my typos, I'm at work and typing fast...
  5:43pm
hjmaiere:

By "weird vibe," I mean like I'm coming down from something. But maybe that's just me.
  5:44pm
Irwin:

Steve, my man -- neglected to bring any tall hat music today. Next week -- double dose.
  5:46pm
hjmaiere:

You know, like the entire '70s.
  5:47pm
Steve Barton:

Tall hat is great, but don't forget the big hair/shiny anatomy side of the genre.
  5:53pm
Sean Daily:

Don't'cha love it when the advertising department gets its hands on a hymn?
  5:59pm
Mike:

I'll never hear Modern English's "Melt With You" ever again without thinking of Burger King hamburgers.
