Stingy, go to Columbine (the restaurant, not the massacre site) on West Broadway for a great (but slightly overpriced) sandwich. Or go to the Pakistan Tea House for microwaved but still very tasty naan and chicken and chickpeas.
  9:45am
Bad Ronald:

stingy - go to pho na trang on Baxter Street for some dynamite vietnamese cuisine.
  9:45am
HotRod:

If you're short on time, Stingy D, pick up a sandwich here: http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/alidoro/menus/main.html

Those trolls are little fascists. In so far as they have politics, plus their outlook on humanity and their moral fiber ... they're little would-be fascists.

  9:57am
GUMBY:

Anybody ever been to China? I saw it on Globe Trekker the other night and it looked cool, but the language barrier may be huge. Any thoughts?
  9:58am
Jim:

I love pork but not necessarily chop. Somehow, someone convince me otherwise.
  9:59am
Pork Chop:

Sizzle!!!
  10:00am
Parq:

Miss HR, harking back to your earlier post, take a tip from this summer's cinema -- invite all 11 exes to Maury's wedding. Hilarity ensues. And you've already got singing experience.
  10:01am
Parq:

And Hatch, I'm a little behind time, I know, but was your trip to DC a success?
  10:02am
jason:

nice green bo on bayard and elizabeth, pork and crab soup dumplings
  10:07am
Hatch:

New Green Bo is now called "Nice" Green Bo and it isn't as good anymore. The place across the street is much better, and it has a great name. It's called New Yeah Shanghai Deluxe.
  10:12am
stingy d:

if you want to like pork chops try the prok chop over rice at the excellent pork chop house on doyers st in china town near bowery
  10:14am
stingy d:

oh man- excelent prok chop house is closed on teusdays! funkhauser!!!
  10:20am
jason:

thats true, and surly tall guy doesn't work there anymore. i will try new yeah again, last time i went they were putting celery in everything
  10:24am
Ike:

I love New York Noodletown. Haven't been in a while. Also, last time I checked, the soup dumplings at Shanghai Cafe were really good.

Gumby, I spent 10 days in western China and mostly hated it (after going to Thailand and Laos, which were awesome). The language barrier wasn't too bad, but reaching sights and attractions is difficult. Everything is very spread out, but you can't rent a car. Not as friendly as Thailand or Laos either. In fact, many people are flat-out vicious and hostile (to each other, too, not just to tourists). The food was spectacular, though.
  10:25am
Jim:

This is an odd set. It's not bad though.
  10:29am
dei x:

sigh... my pre-lunch lunch is a wad of pepper jack cheese and a chunk of anadama bread. Not quite the bowl of Pho with fried spring rolls, lots of basil, and peanut sauce that I now hunger. At least I can read up about McCain's first Mrs.
  10:29am
gumby:

Thanks, Ike. It seems the Chinese are very straighforward. I guess that seems like hostility sometimes.
I've also heard Vietnam is excellent, especially if you take walking tours by coastal areas. Maybe I will look into southeast Asia first.
That Globe Trekker can be deceptive, because you know they have everything set up for them ahead of time.
  10:33am
jason:

actually, if you like vietnamese, try xe lua at 86 mulberry st. you get a giant bowl of meat and vegg for 7$ and the ceiling is painted like the sky
  10:34am
GP:

On the Marble Sheep track I keep expecting Neal Young to break into Cinnamon Girl
  10:37am
Bad Ronald:

Mmmmm Cinnamon Girl...
  10:38am
Parq:

Brit? Paris? Anybody here wanna see pics of Obama naked? Nuff sed.
  10:39am
Lang:

this guys is making wanna vomit
  10:39am
Parq:

And "Time" is not a celeb sheet? Debatable at best.
  10:40am
gumby:

I'd vote for Brittney, she is very economically minded, doesn't even spend money on undies.
  10:40am
m:

it's funny how obama's speech set over charlemagne palestine sounds even more inspiring, yet if it were mccain speaking it would sound even more foreboding...
  10:43am
GP:

Thanks Parq, really... thanks.....need a Unicorn chaser after that image popped into my mind

  10:47am
Ike:

Gumby -- IMO, not blunt, not straightforward, not a cultural misunderstanding. Largely hostile. Cruel. Greedy. Unpleasant. Willing to do anything for cash (e.g. the builders of schools in Sichuan). A Mandarin-speaking Malay-Australian friend agrees with me, so it's not a language barrier thing. Don't get me wrong, there were a few nice people too, but not nearly as many as in Laos. Laos is fantastic! Yes, check out southeast Asia instead.
  10:48am
Swami:

Celebrity? Whose been on Saturday Night Live more. . . not impersonated poorly on the show, but actually on it? I believe Sen. M.C. Cain has been not only a host, but a musical guest, with DJ DeLay.

Gumby, brilliant observation. Obama's people should make that a major talking point. ("Sen. McCain, are you pondering what I'm pondering?")
