Awesome way to start a show!
  9:06am
dei x:

Had I known my listening day would start thus, I would have worn c-gar-rit pants and beatle boots.
  9:08am
Pamela:

  9:08am
Jim:

  9:12am
fishmonkeystew:

Hello, Hatch! I'm just back from a refreshing New Mexico vacation and happy to hear WFMU in full force once again. Happy B-day Pamela!
  9:15am
Hatch:

Happy birthday Pamela, want to hear anything in particular? Good morning to all the rest of y'all.
  9:17am

Hatch:

Doug, I'm on it. That's on my "To Play" list for this morning.
  9:29am
Jim:

I'm going through a difficult time in my life, and would like to hear something new yet familiar and comforting.
  9:31am
Hatch:

How about two songs that sound EXACTLY like Animal Collective??? ;)
  9:33am
Pamela:

yes, dating is NOT something I'm looking forward to. unless I look at it as a chance for a bunch of free meals. ha.
  9:40am
dei x:

a sammich just ain't worth the pretended interest in the conversation. as fancy as I think "the widow xhrist" sounds, I hope my husband stays hale and healthy so I never have to date again. as for you, I think the FMU blogs are the best place to start...
  9:48am
Jim:

Hatch - but I don't like Animal Collective. Now I'm even more sad.
  9:52am
Ypsi Doug:

This Ex/Mekuria cut is smashing. Wish I could go to the show.
  9:53am
Listener Dave from NH:

  9:59am
Pete:

Nice work this morning Hatch. I still think you're Canadian. Some Tragically Hip perhaps???
  10:00am
Hatch:

I am a Canadian trapped in an American's body.
  10:01am
Ike:

That wasn't a real "rick roll" because we escaped from it after a couple of minutes without hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL or unplugging the computer. Also, it was vaguely amusing instead of puerile and annoying.
  10:03am
jon:

ohhh good I can practice my German skills and boogie down at the same time.
  10:16am
jon:

Hatch...

when where is that rhys Chatham gig?

thanks

jon
  10:18am
Torbjorn from Norway:

Hey, guys .. "Uti var hage" means "out in our garden".
The song is about what is in the garden, like a lot of flowers and trees.
There's also some lines about "if you want me, you'll find me there."
It's a popular old song in both Norway and Sweden.
A great humour show used another version as a show intro, great tune.
  10:19am
Hatch:

Friday night outside at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park, same place where the Ex show is happening.
  10:21am
jon:

ohh great thanks!
  10:21am
R. P.:

  10:22am
Pamela:

Yes, I know. 42 is indeed young. Of course, not to the 21 year olds! But even if I become a cougar, I'm not going that low! :-)
  10:28am
Parq:

Feliz cumpleanos [take accent marks as read], Pamela. Elvis died at age 42, so you're already a winner in the survival contest. If you can't be good, be careful. Actually, even if you can be good, be careful. And live the life you love.
  10:30am
Carmichael:

Hey Pamela, today's my birthday, too!!!!!

Leos RULE!!
  10:32am
Carmichael:

Parq, you're beginning to sound like Dr. Leo Buscaglia.

Is this the PBS blog?!? :-)
  10:33am
Pamela:

Parq, muchas gracias! ditto on the accent marks. And if you can't be careful, have as much fun as possible! Hey Carmichael - herzliche glueckwunsche zum geburtstag (accent marks as appropriate). Leos do rule. All must bow before us.
  10:34am
jon:

who are those fake beatles anyway? where do we get some of their fake music?
  10:37am
dei x:

Tom Waits: "Jim Jarmusch once told me, "Fast, Cheap, and Good... pick two. If it's fast and cheap, it won't be good. If it's cheap and good, it won't be fast. If it's fast and good, it won't be cheap." Fast, cheap and good... pick (2) words to live by." http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2008/05/an_interview_with_tom_waits_by.html.
As quoted by someone turning 37 Friday.
  10:37am
jon:

Thanks for the info on the Fake Beatles, Hatch.
  10:39am
Parq:

Jon, dig on Beware of the Blog for July 29 and ye shall see all.
  10:40am
jp:

re: bicycle story. U-LOCK JUSTICE!!!!! ;-)
  10:40am
Bad Ronald:

WRECKLESS!!! Thanks
  10:45am
Jim:

I like Wreckless Eric. Play some more stuff kinda like that. But you know, not all old.
  10:45am
gumby:

Your as young as they feel.
  10:46am
gumby:

Sorry Ike, for the unapostrophe abuse.
You're as young as they feel.
  10:47am
efd:

THE YACHTS! Now you're talking!
  10:47am
jon:

groovy, Parq. thanks for the hint.
  10:48am
gumby:

Thanks for the Yacths on this fine breezy summer morning.
  10:51am
Bad Ronald:

How about some Pink Fairies?
  10:51am
Carmichael:

Spizz Energi?
  10:56am
GP:

Hatch,
Might as well follow this Girls At Our Best track with some GO! Team...then everyone should be awake.
  11:01am
Jim:

Haven't heard this is in a while.
  11:08am
GP:

Hatch,
When you get a minute please ID the background tune you have going...Thanks
  11:10am
dei x:

it's "Your DJ Speaks", by the WFMU Archive Trio? Or is it the cover by Hatch's Private 'Stash?
  11:11am
Hatch:

That was "Chelsea Boys" by Marz.
  11:27am
Andrew:

Flying Saucer Attack!!!
  11:28am
Jim:

Weird.
  11:32am
Ike:

That makes me wonder: Why do some DJs not provide that info in the playlists (in a box with "music behind DJ"), while others do? And some do it for some mic breaks, but not others (see Benjamen yesterday)? Too distracting when you're about to go on mic?
  11:35am
Hatch:

I think it's a distraction, and I also think bed music doesn't necessarily need to be identified.
  11:36am
dei x:

Its the SAME TRACK, phase shifted, by Martians. In flying saucers. That's why it sounds so different - the individual DJs' biomagnetic fields alter the way the track transmits.
  11:37am
Parq:

Say, what's a "public citizen", anyway? How does the status differ from that of private citizen?
  11:39am
public citizen:

Did we say the Pledge of Allegiance before we started our internet meeting?
  11:40am
gumby:

I think a "public citizen" is more outgoing, while a "private citizen" tends to keep to themself.
  11:41am
Carmichael:

I feel strongly that we should sing "Eres Tu" before each government meeting.

Yes, that would make me laugh ...
  11:42am
GP:

A public citizen likes to loudly interrupt public functions
  11:43am
travis:

what does Q stand for in John Q Public
  11:43am
Parq:

Hatch, no need to get that esoteric. Let's just ask McCain to identify all of the rights gauranteed under the First Amendment.
  11:46am
Hatch:

There are plenty of ways to stump McCain, I'm sure.
  11:52am
trent:

this is a GOOD song
  11:54am
Ike:

What's McCain doing here? If he thinks he has any possibility of taking NJ, then he's wildly mistaken. We'll show him.

Aaaaiiiiiieeeeeeee, dirty hippie music! Run away, run away!
  11:55am
Hatch:

It's all about the Benjamins, Ike.
  11:57am
Ike:

Oh right, Bergen County. I forgot. Who would've thought a town called Ho-Ho-Kus would be stinking rich?
  12:00pm
Carmichael:

Thanks for all the fun, Hatch.
  12:01pm
jon:

thanks Hatch!
  12:02pm
GP:

Thanks Hatch...have a good week off
