Listener comments!

  9:11am gumby:

Obama had quite the rousing acceptance speech last night. A big agenda, but I am ready for change.
  9:17am Sean:

Agreed. Gumby. It's time.

...this scratchy ole' blues is just what I needed this morning. Great stuff.
  9:17am El Thatchmo...:

....gets to listen live for a few as he prepares for the birthday celebration of the manchild!
  9:19am El Thatchmo...:

My Momma? More like JoeBama!
  9:21am Swami:

Obama? They found him? Tora Bora?
  9:30am ?:

NJ Rulz!
  9:31am graham:

damn that mosquito!
  9:31am gumby:

Nj rulz what?
  9:36am gumby:

I see more Obama t-shirts these days than Led Zeppelin ones, he must be popular.
  9:43am Sean:

Obama put the "Ungh" in the Mambo.
  10:12am dc pat:

finally got my Ex cd from Netherlands yesterday--the book is so thick, I can't fit it back in the case.
  10:15am Listener Dave from NH:

I heard Red Sovine's name mentioned and I was totally ready for a trucker monologue. (Not that there's anything wrong with this!)
  10:26am Carmichael:

I'm still hoping for Dick Curless' "Chick Inspector". Maybe a set of 18-wheeler tunes? Seems perverse enough to be fun.
  10:28am Hugo:

That's a terrific title, that J&J tune. The Carter Family did one called "There's no depression in heaven"?
  10:38am north guinea hills:

Hugo, I love that Carter Family tune as well!
  10:41am stingy d:

i'm a little late, but as far as obama goes: i'll beleive it when i see it. but it doesn't matter ebcause i'll have a good laugh when he loses
  10:52am gumby:

Clarence Carter must have been one broke dude.
  11:02am Parq:

I regret to say, my creeping fear that Stingy is right has kept me from feeling any elation over last night.
  11:06am Paul Sherratt:

Obama ?
Someone should write a song about him ..
  11:07am gumby:

Let the drum & horn love rain down.
  11:07am Carmichael:

Why would you laugh, Stingy?
  11:10am stingy d:

of course i'm right!
cocoa tea wrote an obama song
i would laugh, because i can't vote anyway
  11:16am Matt:

I think Extra Golden also wrote a song about Obama.
  11:16am stingy d:

i think also it woudl be humorous because everyone thinks there will be sweeping changes if obama wins. the knicks have a better chance of turning it around than the united states government,
  11:16am gumby:

Powell=POW
  11:19am Carmichael:

Reading between your lines Stingy, I sense you do not live here in the US?
  11:19am stingy d:

did you know mccain picked a vp?

this alaskan governor dame

off shore drilling just won him 10 million votes
  11:20am gumby:

I'm not overly optomistic about sweeping changes. I find the simple idea of moving the Amero-meter closer to the ideals of the Constitution to be appealing.
  11:21am Carmichael:

The Constitutional ideals that have not yet been suspended, anyway ....
  11:21am Allan Clear:

I don't believe people really think there will be sweeping changes. The war has ruined the economy and nothing much is going to change that in the short term. What we will get is a sense of optimism in the country and a little more accountability and honesty. And a move away from the current quasi fascist rule we have now.
  11:22am stingy d:

this broad is pprrrrrreeeetttttyyyyyyy, lookin like mufcukin liz lemon over here, mccain just won the who's-better-looking votes
  11:24am Ike:

I agree Gumby. Balance of power between gov't branches is ideal. The executive branch should not be able to rule with an iron fist. But overall, the condition of the country won't change much in the short term.

Palin DOES look like Liz Lemon doesn't she? She is also being investigated for possible abuse of power:

  11:25am stingy d:

he's giot the fat dick votes, the off-shore drilling votes, the shooting a gun votes, the better looking votes, the snarky realism votes... what else is there!?!?! the grizzled vet votes? got em! the kill anyoen who fucks with me votes? check! mccain is gonna mop the floor with this palooka!
  11:27am weepy bzul:

When when will my Friday mind be trained finally to remind me to access Wide Friday Morning Uplift earlier than this? The portion of playlist missed makes me the saddest scatterbrain under the yellow sun.
Will an Obama admin. square up my schedule cues? "Change" my mental engine oil?
  11:27am stingy d:

hahahahah oooooh shit!
yo son! obama is black!! yea right, no waay, not once not never!
  11:27am Carmichael:

Nice point, Allan. It seems to me to be a choice, in general terms, of 4 more years of the same or something completely different.

Are Americans mad enough that they want to change the entire style (and perhaps substance) of the next President, or are they so unsure enough about the challenger that they would prefer another lifelong Republican party man whose views are not that much different than those of the current President?
  11:29am Carmichael:

Stingy, you have a lot of mouth for someone who can't vote. So your opinion doesn't really matter.
  11:29am Swami:

McCain also got the "I'm a scared pussy" vote too. Praise Jeebus! McCAin has the "Oh no he's half black" vote, while Obama keeps the "half -white" party.
  11:29am stingy d:

hey weepy! wake up earlier! you clearly do not work ahrd enough! mccain will reign!!!
  11:30am Carmichael:

Our first troll ...
  11:31am stingy d:

naaah , i can vote, i was just pulling your link there
  11:31am Sean Daily:

The "I'm a scared pussy" vote. Gotta remember that, Swami.

And I think Stingy here'd fall into that demographic...
  11:33am stingy d:

yo thats true, i am scared of being votey
  11:34am Parq:

Carmichael, you're just now figuring that out? It's not like he's been subtle.
  11:35am Sean Daily:

The moral of this story, people, is never post while high.
  11:35am north guinea hills:

swami, you owe my employer a new keyboard. that was worthy of a lollacaust!
  11:35am stingy d:

and i'm just conversatin man, ain't no danged nothin

ok ok ok you're rigth, obama... so much all the way
  11:35am JR:

go ahead stingy, spend your $0.005 per gallon from offshore drillling. just as soon as you get it. several years from now

don't spend it all in one place!
  11:36am annie:

yes, i did listen, not that i wanted to, but there was no music on the radio, just postulating. his speech reminded me alot of bill clinton's when he was running. he was all flowers and good and not even 24 hours into it, he turned lunatic. i like what obama has to say, i still don't trust him.
  11:36am north guinea hills:

then again, i hate biden w/ fury of a thousand suns
  11:37am stingy d:

i don't drive wo
  11:37am gumby:

All's I know is after last nights speech, Mrs. Gumby is all hopped up to get the vote out for her guy.
  11:38am annie:

stinks to high heaven
  11:39am stingy d:

yo, annie, you're being a troll, you are supposed to not do that
  11:40am annie:

how so? just speaking my mind
  11:41am Parq:

Uh, how 'bout that Julie Coin? Y'know, someone should mention that the history factor just got ramped up exponentially. Without question, the country will have either a black or a woman in a top executive post next year.
  11:42am JR:

concern troll. look it up.
  11:42am Paul Sherratt:

Oh Usha Uthup !

Get's my vote
  11:43am Carmichael:

Parq, I'm a little bit slow most times. But I like to think my shots are a little more accurate.

NGH, I don't exactly HATE Biden, but I agree he is emblematic of the problem in Washington, and not of the cure.

I don't know anything about this McCain VP, but the Repubs are already in strategy trouble. They can't hold a whoopfest in Minneapolis (with Bush speaking) while New Orleans takes it on the chin again from another hurricane, so they're considering re-scheduling.

McCain can't remember how many houses he owns, and he offers his wife to a biker gang wet T-shirt contest. Oh, and he was a POW; did you know that?!? I heard him say it last night. And the night before that. And the night before that.
  11:44am annie:

in new york it matters not for whom i vote, so i will write-in for dennis kucinich
  11:44am Sean Daily:

What Paul said and with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Love the Indian movie songs, Doug.
  11:45am north guinea hills:

then again i can't wait for the veep debates......
  11:45am JR:

I'm loving this soundtrack set too.
  11:45am gumby:

Good point Parq. If nothing else the machinations of the game may have leapt us into a new consideration of race and gender in the US and how the rest of the world views our progress or lack thereof in that arena.
  11:46am Carmichael:

I LOVED Kucinich's happy freak dance/speech, complete with "jazz hands" at the end. Did the camera mostly show his hot young wife, as is usually the case?
  11:46am annie:

gumby: word
  11:47am Parq:

There is no possibility -- none, zero, nada -- that two white men will be running the country next year. I can't help but think that's pretty damn cool.
  11:47am stingy d:

yo i'm doing the whole speakign my mind thing too, but i get chastised. i'm in new york too, and i'm just not gonna vote. and kucinich was the only one who had whats the word for like when you're not a robotic presence in a public forum???
  11:47am mark m.:

my vote won't matter here in Texas either. So it's straight Libertarian for me--let's get the government out of our lives
  11:48am north guinea hills:

my main beef w/ biden his bed he has lain w/ the credit card industry.

but, he will chew up palin in the veep debates...
  11:49am Carmichael:

That rocks, Parq. However, seeing the glass half-empty: what would the people say if we shuffled off the female to an "undisclosed location" for four years?

You think the female voters are pissed now, just wait.
  11:49am Sean Daily:

I'm not chastising you, Stingy. I'm just disagreeing with you. There is a difference.
  11:49am annie:

i'm assuming that mcain picked the veep?
  11:51am stingy d:

i agree wtih mark!
its cool sean daily! we are freinds
mccain picked a hot dame!!!!
  11:52am north guinea hills:

i seriously doubt that mccain has met palin in person (until maybe the last week)
  11:52am stingy d:

annie, her name is liz lemon.
http://politicalkudzu.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/sarah-palin-1.jpg
she is the governor of alaska
  11:52am gumby:

Mrs. Biden looked kinda loaded to me last night.
  11:53am Sean Daily:

I'd LIKE to get government out of my life. Problem is, I kinda like flush toilets and highways and clean water to drink. Kinda hard to have those without government.
  11:54am annie:

just looking at NYT online... wow, he picked a woman!! tough fight ahead..
  11:54am Carmichael:

I don't understand why you guys think your vote doesn't matter. Just make an informed choice is all I ask. Don't listen to the radio/TV pundits. Evaluate honestly and vote your conscience. Screw everyone else.
  11:55am gumby:

excellent point Carmichael
  11:56am Parq:

Keep up with us, Annische, we got a lot of ground to cover and just four minutes left to do it.
  11:56am stingy d:

not for nothing and not to be a concern troll
but i don't see any real difference in any of these people, cus they are all blow-hards, so my informed choice, is to wash my hands of it all
  11:56am gumby:

Hoorah for Bollywood. Thanks Doug, have a good week
  11:57am annie:

what the hell is a troll?
  11:58am Carmichael:

My wife: I would never vote for McCain. I disagree with him on almost every major issue.

Me: Who are you voting for?

Wife: Hillary!!!

Me: Is she more in line with your views?

Wife: She's a woman!?!?!?!?!?!

But what about her stance on offshore drilling, credit card reform, tax reform, etc ...?

Wife: ?!?! She's a WOMAN!!!
  11:59am Hugo:

With the government out of the way, there would presumably be less than 2.3 million people incarcerated in the US which is less than 1 per cent of the population. Unbelievable! Nope, I don't see governmentality disappearing any time soon.
  11:59am stingy d:

its when i say somethign to try and tear you apart and make you angry/upset/whatever

yo i'm saying tho, the proverbial wool is over the collectvie eyes, democrats and republicans are mad illegal with it
  12:00pm Carmichael:

To be honest Stingy, I'd rather that someone not vote at all than vote AGAINST a candidate. I've heard the argument for years that you HAVE to vote to keep someone out of office.

People don't seem to realize that you can only vote FOR someone.
  11:34am Lenny:

hello Doug I am a constant listener of your show and I am a artist too. And I am presntly working on serveral illustrations that deal with Obama . I listened to the commment you made concerning you attending the MLK speach and from that "I know I am listening to the right program"!/Lenny PS please play more advant gard Music
  8:07pm Richard D:

Thanks for the Whispering Smith track! Arhoolie is fantastic.
Avatar 1:19pm Van in DC:

Oooh. I've not been here before. Let's give it an ear and take in the fine sounds.
Avatar 1:21pm Van in DC:

Whoops. Looks like I can't. I don't have Real Player...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Doug Schulkind:

I don't have Real Player (anymore) either, Van. I hate it so much, I refuse to reinstall it.
