Playlist for The Evan "Funk" Davies Show - September 30, 2008

Tuesdays 11pm - 2am on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Starting with the 70s -- it could be a classic (or obscure) punk rocker, a forgotten disco diva, a long-unheard hit record, or none of these. What happens next depends on what's in the WFMU new bin and whether I remember my records from home. Tune in and find out! You'll even hear a live band once in a while.

Tue. 9/30/08 11:35pm From: billy

don't mean to kill the vibe......but what a bummer about the Mets....can't even think of a tune to sum up this situation!!.

Tue. 9/30/08 11:36pm From: john

I don't know of a song called "we totally suck ass" so you're probably right.

Tue. 9/30/08 11:37pm From: billy

i think you meant to say Brad Whitford .....Tyler was always in Aerosmith

Tue. 9/30/08 11:39pm From: billy

no problem

Tue. 9/30/08 11:39pm From: wikipedia

Continuing to play as a studio musician, Crespo has also performed at some of Las Vegas' biggest casinos, whilst also engineering a rock amplifier simulator ("Rock Amp Legends by Jimmy Crespo") for Nomad Factory. Crespo plays with the band Phoenix on the Las Vegas entertainment circuit.

Tue. 9/30/08 11:41pm From: john

I like that Crespo is described as a stolid capstan. Wonder if he meant to call himself an unemotional revolving cylinder.

Tue. 9/30/08 11:43pm From: RV

I am surprised the wikipedia does not contain any information on his pull-up skills.

Tue. 9/30/08 11:45pm From: Laurie

This "Robot Kid" song -- do I hear a "Warm Leatherette" sample?

Tue. 9/30/08 11:46pm From: randy in NC

Yay Sparks!

Tue. 9/30/08 11:46pm From: efd

i'm not sure if it's an actual sample, but there's definitely some kind of reference in there.
John, totally agree re "stolid capstan!"

Tue. 9/30/08 11:51pm From: Marcelo from Arghhentina

yes, its time now, we need a Sparks boxset, than x for the music Evan

Tue. 9/30/08 11:54pm From: efd

Hi Marcelo, thanks for checking in! Cool to know you're listening in Argentina!
I agree, a Sparks box set is definitely in order. That, and a Tommy Roe box set.

Tue. 9/30/08 11:59pm From: Laurie

KITTY!!!!!!!!!!! Awwww. Thank you for adopting a grown up cat =^._.^=

Wed. 10/1/08 12:00am From: C

You gotta let that cat out of the air vent

Wed. 10/1/08 12:01am From: john

l'hygiene sonore makes a goodish pun in english-- aural hygiene. I went to the dentist today, the music wasn't that good. My cat is sleeping under the covers. I should remember that when I go to bed.

Wed. 10/1/08 12:12am From: Amanda

Such a nice cat! The annoyed expression is because you got the litterbox in the photo, I'm sure.

TF are awesome. I am not sure yet what I'm doing Friday, but I might not be able to resist that show.

Wed. 10/1/08 12:12am From: D in DC

FYI: A big supercollider was supposed to be built in Waxahachie, Texas but the funding was cut in the early 90s.

Wed. 10/1/08 12:15am From: efd

Aha, D, thanks for that info -- that must be the one they're talking about in that song - I know I heard Texas mentioned somewhere in there.
Laurie, the cat is about 8 months old, so not quite full-grown yet.
Amanda, I think the annoyed expression was also because me and one of the workers at the shelter were making him look up while he was trying to eat!

Wed. 10/1/08 12:19am From: Naomi

TOMORROW IS HAZEL RIGBY'S BIRTHDAY!

Wed. 10/1/08 12:21am From: efd

wow! my timing is impeccable!

Wed. 10/1/08 12:21am From: efd

i'm afraid to ask how old she's going to be... i feel old enough as it is since I just had a birthday myself!

Wed. 10/1/08 12:24am From: Naomi

She'll be 20. Get your teeth out of the polident and chew on that.

Wed. 10/1/08 12:32am From: billy

phillies vs brewers....chicago vs la

Wed. 10/1/08 12:33am From: efd

thanks billy!
you are the official efd fact checker for this evening!

Wed. 10/1/08 12:33am From: billy

cubs vs dodgers that is

Wed. 10/1/08 12:35am From: billy

yes somehow i retain information better during the hours of 11-2, tuesday nights

Wed. 10/1/08 12:36am From: efd

i wish that were true for me!

Wed. 10/1/08 12:39am From: efd

anyone want to make some world series predictions?

Wed. 10/1/08 12:42am From: randy in NC

Well the Sox have to get through the Angels. And they haven't done well against them this year. But it seems like they always have to go through them, doesn't it?

Wed. 10/1/08 12:45am From: efd

that's true, Randy. And if Beckett's not at full strength then it's going to be even tougher for Boston to win that series.

Wed. 10/1/08 12:45am From: Laurie

I thought I heard Roxy's voice! She's such a sweetheart.

Wed. 10/1/08 12:57am From: randy in NC

I'd really like to see the Dodgers do it. Not because of the Manny thing, but because it would be great to rub Torre into the NY sportswriters faces. They have this attitude that of course a NY team is going to win the World Series (Super Bowl, etc.). And when they don't it's like the world has ended.

Wed. 10/1/08 12:58am From: billy

i would LOVE to see Dodgers vs Red Sox......Torre and Manny vs Red Sox?!! Bizarre and great

Wed. 10/1/08 12:59am From: MONTREAL

brew crew

Wed. 10/1/08 1:00am From: craig

I can see the dodgers coming out of the National League but I can't choose between Tampa Bay or the Angels.

Wed. 10/1/08 1:08am From: efd

if the Red Sox get knocked out I'll be rooting for Tampa Bay... I'd love to see LA in the series as well, but I feel like the Cubs have a pretty good shot at the NL title.
disclaimer: I don't really follow the NL that closely!

Wed. 10/1/08 1:13am From: john

Dont' discount the Rays in the first Series; they're deadly at home. I think they take out the White Sox. Phils beat a superior Brew Crew, Cubs over Dodgers despite how much fun it'd be to see Yankee fans watch Joe Torre in the Series....more to follow...

Wed. 10/1/08 1:14am From: billy

yeah cubs are the favorite.......but they are cursed

Wed. 10/1/08 1:15am From: efd

I don't believe in curses! :)

And yeah, John, my money's on Tampa Bay to beat the ChiSox.
Well, it would be if I were actually placing money somewhere.

Wed. 10/1/08 1:18am From: billy

really.....i just hope to see some good, close games....no blowouts and no sweeps!!!

Wed. 10/1/08 1:18am From: john

Yeah, but a Cubs win is kind of a dogs and cats living together scneraio...

Wed. 10/1/08 1:19am From: billy

don't forget goats!!

Wed. 10/1/08 1:22am From: efd

it would be somewhat fitting if the Cubs finally make it into the Series and lose to a team that finished in last place last year.

Wed. 10/1/08 1:36am From: ?

oh in spanish, el Lobo - The Wolf, what a sounds, direct from the basements!!! thanx

Wed. 10/1/08 9:16am From: jack m.

hey efd, thanks for the shoutout..."do animals..." is IMHO one of the great post post-punk LPs, ripe for reissue. and great show, as always.

Fri. 10/3/08 3:39pm From: Mary
