"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Listener comments!

  6:29am
Fernando:

Good morning John! I'm writing from Portugal and was a pleasure just hearing an awesome tune from one of the most beloved african artists around here: Mr. Mahmoud Ahmed!
Thanks for playing it!
Have a nice day.
  7:32am
Gonzo:

Thanks for playing the Arthur Russell track, heard a bit about him, first time I've heard his music.( I'm in Melbourne, australia)
  7:42am
JA:

start w/ "calling out of context" for a good intro to his music
  7:48am
Paul Hubert:

I can sit at home and listen to John Martyn (not that I often do) but really enjoyed hearing those tracks by surprise. Can I recommend 'Live At Leeds' - not sure how you get it, but you get the Echoplex madness and improvisation at full blast.
  7:53am
JA:

i will go on record to say John Martyn made no bad records ever
  8:06am
Paul Hubert:

What, not even the ones he made from the mid-80s onward with the noisy fusion group? I'm afraid that's where I got off.
  8:08am
JA:

even those, yes. brilliant records and very misunderstood at the time i'm sure
  8:59am
Negator:

Goddamn this Wood Sjips kicks ass!
  9:05am
COLO_SPRINGS:

Sir John,
Had I known that your AWOL status was temporarily redeemed this AM I would have tuned in earlier to catch your Breakfast Feeding. I only caught Wooden Ships..very nice... twas the icing but catching the dessert with out enjoying the full meal is all WRONG.
Thanks again...many of us miss your music sensibility!
Colonel Carson (the unscrupulous one) misses you too.

PEACE
  10:48pm
Fred the:

I am a lurker in the playlists.... (you know, to the tune of Witchita lineman...?)
