  9:31am Parq:

Fittingly, a Google-Image search of "Hot Tamale" yields a pic of the Bettie Page lunch box. Yes indeed.
  9:34am Marko:

This music reminds me of a song I have recorded on my first ever cassette tape "compilation", made in the early 70s. Poor quality, recorded through the air off an AM radio. Fun times! Anyway, not sure what the song title is, but here's how it starts:

Goodbye trouble
I'm leaving on the double
I'm going where you'll never, never find me....

Anyone ever hear of it? It has to be from the early 1930's or earlier.
  9:38am Cecile:

I'm sorry to hear that, mac.
DH will be sad. But at least she lives on in fine art!
  9:41am Cecile:

dear husband, I mean
not designated hitter
  9:45am dc pat:

I thought you meant DH Lawrence..was wondering about that connection...
  9:46am Cecile:

  9:47am Bad Ronald:

I thought she meant Doogie Howser!
  9:50am dc pat:

  9:55am Doug:

10:01am Deaf Dave in Delaware (DDD):

Doug, your show is so good that just looking at your playlist in total silence is satisfying to this dedicated WFMU listener, er, looker
  10:04am David Herskovits (Manu's dad):

finally a friday morning when I have some free time to listen to your great show. Ahhhh!
  10:04am C:

Doug, great show as always. Wanted to let you know about an incredible jazz pianist that I saw last week. Chuchito Valdes, son of the great Chucho. You gotta check him out live if you get a chance. I think a lot of people who like your show will also like him.
  10:06am GP:

Doug, since I actually have to work this morning this is perfect set to start with.
  10:08am Cecile:

I'm glad that I'm not the son of a famous salsa musician, because then my name would be Duaneito.
  10:12am Doug:

Deaf Dave in Del:
Check back with my playlist about 24 hours after the show. I add a ton of graphics, album cover art and links galore leading to more info about the music/musicians.

C:
Thanks for the word about Chuchito. You aren't the first person to tell me he's a gas. I will keep my nose wide open.

David:
Your time is rarely free, but I'm sure it's very reasonably priced.
  10:20am Cecile:

I'm off to actual work.
Have a great show!
  10:21am gumby:

Doug speaking of extra tidbits. Thanks for the link to the Mankuku show, Soul Jazzmen thing last week. That was a lovely version of Love for Sale.
  10:24am dc pat:

I like when we go to Jamaica.
  10:24am g:

doug, I'm getting a sinking feeling that this here set is going to put a big dent in my wallet . . .
  10:24am Paul Sherratt:

Fine stuff that Stranger Cole - but has anyone out there heard anything off this Queen Patsy / Stanger Cole album ?

Lovely radio moment a few years back when Scotty's ' Cocaine In My Brain' got aired on the BBC Radio 3 .. our mainly classical music station !
  10:31am paulthepostman:

Hi Doug and Reggae Rousers - Cold and damp here in Brighton UK and I'm out of puff...!
Lovely set Doug.
  10:33am annie:

  10:34am gumby:

PTP, we just go tdone with a deluge here, hints of sun through the gray now. Hey Paul Sherratt aren't you in Texas? Did you get snow?
  10:35am paulthepostman:

...I'm out of puff and out of puff!
  10:36am Brian C.:

Diggin the Dave & Ansel--I'd only heard the "Doublebarrel" LP before. This is great!
  10:38am GP:

Got snow in East Texas all the way down to Houston..crazy
  10:39am GP:

P the P out of puff cause of the new "run your route" campaign? I think ya'll will qualify for marathoners after this shakes out.
  10:42am Hugo:

Fine set of Trojan comps there, Doug. Played the "Tenement Yard" comp the other day. Some ultra-fine 12" mixes thrown in there for good measure. Wicked!

Got snow here in Bergen, too, which is slightly to the east of Bergen Country, NJ ...
  10:42am Hugo:

that should be Bergen County ...
  10:43am paulthepostman:

Have a good one, one and all. I'm off to join Santa's helpers for an hour or two at the sorting office grotto!
GP - yeah, WHAT is management about these days?
  10:44am GP:

P the P tell Santa Hello from me. Put me down for a personal bailout!
  10:46am dc pat:

Ran across this gamelon video the other day--this is the tightest band I've ever seen:
http://tinyurl.com/gamelon
  10:47am paulthepostman:

Gotcha GP, count it done!
  10:48am Paul Sheratt:

Hugo !

Have you got that Queen Patsy ? If anyone is going have a copy, etc etc ..
  10:49am dc pat:

hey ptp, what do you do with all the Dear Santa letters??
  10:53am Bad Ronald:

Awesome vid DCP, thanks!

Hey PtheP, tell Santa he left his socks at my place last year!!!!
  10:57am Parq:

PtP, send 'em down to Foley Square.
  10:57am dc pat:

yeah, I was kind of blown away with their precision.
  10:57am Parq:

The letters, that is, not Ron's socks.
  11:02am Hugo:

Paul,

found one Treasure Isle single with patsy and cole and another tune which is not annotated. Your link looks like a Sonia Pottinger comp on cd, though, but should be from the same period, I would think. That single shall of course be added to the collection.
  11:03am Carmichael:

Good day, all, from the fogged-in West Coast.
  11:06am Paul Sherratt:

Martin Carthy, The Imminent Grandfather!
  11:07am PMD:

Doug, you know of Julie Fowlis? Look her up.
  11:07am Carmichael:

Cecile, got your antennaue up? This set is for you!
  11:08am Crmichael:

Or Anne Briggs?
  11:08am Mark:

Tuning in late, but it sounds wonderful (as usual). Thanks Doug
  11:09am gumby:

I could go for a spicy ale right now.
  11:10am Doug:

PMD, I'm not familiar with Julie Fowlis. Tell me about her. On the other hand Anne Briggs is to die for. Over and over again.
  11:12am Carmichael:

June Tabor would also be mui bueno, but that would be stretching my request rights.
  11:12am Paul Sherratt:

... or The Oldham Tinkers !
  11:13am PMD:

From her myspace page: "BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year 2008". Saw her at a small coffee house in VA a couple months ago. Really amazingly beautiful voice. Fowlis grew up in North Uist, a small island in the Outer Hebrides, in a Gaelic speaking community, and has been involved in singing, piping and dancing since she was a child.
  11:13am Carmichael:

Gumby,

There's a micro brewery about 4 blocks away, and I've been thinking about it since I woke up. Celtic Amber Ale.
  11:14am Hugo:

not to mention Maddy Prior ... or any early Steeleye Span
  11:16am Carmichael:

PMD, I'll bet she's a brilliant Sean Nos singer. A rare art form these days.
  11:16am Paul Sherratt:

Hugo !
Don't mantion Maddy, you might put our DJ off his stride !
  11:16am annie:

maddy prior, to me one of the best performers on this planet.. loved steel eye span since 71
  11:19am Hugo:

Paul,
I know! Naughty chap, am I ...
  11:20am gumby:

Hey sun just came out here! Whaaa-Hooo! One of those magic times when high clouds are going one way and low clouds another. Earth, still my favorite planet!
  11:21am Zorg:

mmmmm. Earth
  11:21am Paul Sherratt:

And not to be forgotten in these brief dispatches - Bert Lloyd.

Carmichael, did I post up a Sean Nos link here a few weeks ago. The one which contained a fascinating hair piece ?
  11:23am Doug:

Oh my, Maddy. I can't think straight, can't breathe...

Gotta thing for Ms. Prior, as Mr. Hugo well knows (naughty chap).
  11:23am Carmichael:

Paul S, I don't recall seeing one but would love to. And Dead Can Dance is a more modern traditional band, Sean Nos and everything.
  11:28am Paul Sherratt:

Carmichael,
Here you are.Something for later :
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3pxDmAdozxk&feature=related
  11:29am GP:

Joanna Newsom is like listening to a dream unfold.
sorry...she reminds of an old flame
  11:29am Carmichael:

Brilliant Paul, thanks!
  11:34am GP:

Ba da bing! Doug
  11:44am Paul Sherratt:

The Copper Family of Rottingdean,
Just wondering if they've ever been in one of paulthepostman's rounds ?
  11:54am Paul Sherratt:
