Listener comments!

  9:01pm bryce:

i accept false bob!!!!
  9:11pm mike g.:

"purposeful lady slow afternoon" - hoof & mouth sinfonia 2009?
  9:12pm tierney:

What a goddamn day.
  9:13pm bryce:

i'd be into "the wolfman"...
  9:19pm mike g.:

do you know "fancy free?"
  9:22pm bryce:

no! never heard that one....
  9:26pm mike:

"Ashley's piece Fancy Free (1970), music theatre as well, also offers such a game of controlled and spontaneous generation of sound. It was dedicated to and written specifically to be performed by the composer Alvin Lucier, with whom Ashley had previously collaborated in the Sonic Arts Union for a number of years. It is also a piece about Alvin Lucier himself, taking its starting point in Lucier's speech impediment, his stutter. Extremely slowly, the speaker recites a text, "I am fancy free, under a starry sky, grey, greyer than a mother's cunt, and bitterer", recorded simultaneously by four tapes."
  9:30pm Cici:

Is that available as a recording (and in the WFMU arhv)? Sounds inneresting.

If not, Automatic Writing would be my jam tonight.
  9:41pm bryce:

hahaaaaa, that's amazing :)

hey, if you feel like it, could you get him to reminisce about dr. chicago? that would make me soooo happy.
  9:42pm spell:

hey mike. random question, but are there any black metal bands that you're fond of?
  9:47pm mike g.:

cici -no recordings of "fancy free" that i can remember. at least until bryce & i take it on.
bryce - yes to dr. chicago.
spell - i like black metal but i'm not at all knowledgeable of it.
  9:58pm spell:

ok, i figured i would ask because the bm scene was built on crappy production values and lo fi basement recordings. theres been a lot of great post-punk influenced bm released in the last few years as well. theres a band called circle of ouroborus that covered "she's lost control".
  10:04pm Cici:

The bm scene!
Mike when you and Bryce take on Fancy Free, maybe you can update the phrase "mother's cunt" with "beloved mother and cunt" Larry David style.
  10:09pm mike g.:

you're definitely right about the production values being up my alley. thanks for the info on circle of ouroborus, i'll track it down.
  10:09pm Cici:

I mean I'm not a prude or anything but that other imagery is a bit too uh something for these times.
  10:16pm spell:

theres a lot of different bm imagery. for example, a lot of black metal is concerned with the preservation of nature. its not as one dimensional as people perceive it to be.
  10:18pm J W Buchanan:

Maybe I have a MAD Magazine-level mentality, but when people say "the bm scene" I can only think one thing.
  10:18pm bryce:

chuck berry.
  10:20pm J W Buchanan:

EXZACTLY
  10:24pm Cici:

So are you gonna do us a solid and play Automatic Writing (excerpt) or the Wolf Man, or what?
  10:39pm J W Buchanan:

It would be hilarious if after all this buildup he played "Happy Station" by Fun Fun
  10:47pm mike g.:

didn't have time to pull out that piece of "italo hotness," but...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06ZlbURvidY
  10:59pm Dr. funkey:

go on go yaaaaaa franc-AY!
  11:00pm Cici:

Thank you Mike for doing us a solid.
  11:08pm Dr. funkey:

I like this song
  11:51pm Cici:

Was that real murky stuff played much earlier "Beautiful Stranger" by Live Fast Die and could you tell us more about that. Is that the contemporary punk band livefastdie? It didn't sound what I picture them sounding like.
  11:56pm mike g.:

the love is so fast... fixed. it's my learning disability. los llamarada side band, new record on siltbreeze.
