jess:

i'm so excited for this show tonight trance
  8:10pm
trent:

it's going to be a good one. it's going to take you on a ride down and up and all around, and overall feel all inside of your emotions.
  8:13pm
karinne:

this one punches me in the gut in a very tender way.
  8:18pm
trent:

that's the idea karinne. so thank you! it's a good one huh?
  8:18pm
liane:

ARE YOU GONNA PLAY SOME MARIAH? <EMOOOOTIONS>

  8:22pm
liane:

  8:23pm
~L:

I like this Mad World song, it's in the Donnie Darko movie.
  8:32pm
jess:

geezus f. christ. i can't handle this one. somebody pass the bon bons.
  8:39pm
alex d:

my girlfriend's dad's 1st cousin is playing lead guitar in this song.
  8:39pm
RagnarR in SF Bay:

Loving the Scala & Kolacny Bros. If you're doing depressing and sad stuff - play something by Codeine. Doesn't Steely Dan have a more "downer" of a tune than "Reelin'", it sounds a little too happy to me.
  8:40pm
noel:

Sonic Youth's "Schizophrenia" from Sister might fit well with tonight's theme.
  8:41pm
karinne:

dirty work?
graham nash's another sleep song hits high on pure emoto-meter
  8:42pm
Ike:

God, how I despise Steely Dan. This song is emotionless! It's like lite elevator jazz crossbred with the Eagles plus more gloss. But other than that, great show so far!

I'd nominate Arcade Fire for most emotional. Or most epic and affecting anyway.
  8:43pm
JE:

Nanci Griffith's version of "Morning Song for Sally" knocks the wind out of me every time I hear it...
  8:44pm
alex d:

xiu xiu - clowne towne
cat faces - ugly casanova
arcade fire - neighborhood #1
  8:46pm
trent:

these are all GREAT suggestions KEEP THEM COMING. i'm looking for them. if there's any way you could give me an mp3 or link please do - trent@wfmu.org or right here.

it's not ALL about depressing.
  8:48pm
jess:

i'm really getting very emotional right now. i just drunk messaged some people on facebook that i care about telling them how much i care about them.
  8:50pm
~L:

Bright Eyes --Poison Oak
  8:53pm
jackie:

man, sound and safe > blind dates. infinitely. glad you're here this week.
  8:55pm
jennifer marino:

hey ..i just sent over a few songs for the list..
  8:55pm
Jake:

I feel a few months closer to being 16 (and driving late at night) with each song. Almost anything by Neko Case or from R&L Thompson toward the end fits the bill. But for pure emotions, nicely mixed, I'd go for The Band's "Acadian Driftwood." Great, great show tonight.
  8:56pm
cashcash:

i request some "return to innocence"
  8:57pm
cashcash:

if you don't have enigma, then how's about something german

Tips for battling S.A.D (Seasonal Affective Disorder.)
When you awake in the morning turn on every light in the house (brains need sunlight, but fake sunlight works, too). In the evening, gradually begin turning out your lights one by one until you are assimilated to night time darkness and can go to sleep. Then the next day turn on all the lights again, energy crisis be damned!
  9:34pm
izzy:

HI JESS!! Happy new year to you too gfriend.

Tront I'd like to hear the greatest by Cat Power. Also my ringtone, Fade into you, is also appropriate.
  9:37pm
sheasheawanton:

Tips for enjoying S.A.D

Stay up all night and sleep all day

Rinse and repeat.
  9:41pm
George of Troy:

Trent, the Arthur Russell > Neil Young > Beach Boys was perfect!
  9:44pm
alex d:

I second the leonard cohen request. Maybe "Stories of the Street". pretty heartwrenching "...and lost among the subway cars i try to catch your eye."
  9:46pm
edith phern:

aah, mazzy star, the best make-out album of 1993. i also third the leonard cohen.
  9:48pm

  10:01pm

  10:12pm
groucho:

This is a great theme! Back in the day I had a super hot roommate well out of my league but we happened to be home alone one winter night and did the same thing: Play the most depressing songs we could.

Long :) story short we ended up in bed for a wonderful night!

Once in a life time!
  10:12pm
MONTREAL:

ROKY ERICKSON, "YOU'RE AN UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT"
  10:15pm
Dan Bodah:

For Tom Waits, I'd definitely say Blow Wind Blow from Frank's Wild Years. Also, I second Rufus Wainwright's cover of Hallelujah -- if you play Leonard Cohen, Suzanne is pretty good. Great show Trent!

Yeah, I forgot about Who Are You? by Waits -- I had a rich girlfriend who actually did jump out a window in expensive clothes. That song always resonated with me.

  10:41pm
Dan B:

I don't know if I'd call it a "great" story. She didn't succeed in killing herself *that* time...eventually, though, many years later, when we'd been out of touch for a while, she suffocated herself with a plastic bag. She was an incredibly smart, beautiful girl, and it will be shame if her father has to wait until he's in hell before he rots.
  10:43pm
