Listener comments!

  11:07pm
Joe:

This isn't Bad Company!

I'll never trust Tom Scharpling again.
  11:09pm
@brlamb:

A rare treat to listen live, rather than on the archives...
  11:09pm
Michael K.:

How Sweet!! Your playing "Our Song"!
  11:10pm
E.L.:

It's hard to find good 1970's black vinyl— especially at 33 & 1/3.
  11:10pm
Joe:

Aw man, I gotta call Marlene.
  11:10pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I can't confirm if that was Bad Company or not, but the radio stations in the 70s played the Neil Sedaka song a gazillion times a day.
  11:10pm
efd:

hahaha! Michael, you nailed it!

Hi Joe and @brlamb! Nice to see you live.
  11:14pm
Amanda:

Now that I know all the words to this song, hearing it on the radio is (believe it) awesomer than before.
  11:15pm
Lauren:

I forgot about this song! !! I love this!
  11:17pm
efd:

Lauren, that song is never to be forgotten! That's why I play it every few months.
  11:18pm
john:

Dang, I do love me some Altered Images.
  11:21pm
efd:

Amanda, it's a scientific fact: the more you hear "1x 2x Devastated" the more awesomer it gets.
  11:24pm
william k:

efd, do you have the i could be happy 12 inch?
  11:25pm
Michael from the left coast:

Talk about a diverse playlist!
  11:27pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

It could be a night for some Nick Gilder? No?
  11:27pm
Joe:

that harmony reminds me of the harmony in "HoagieFest"

and thus, the EFD circle is complete.
  11:27pm
efd:

Michael, don't get @brlamb excited!
  11:28pm
john:

I think at that point it'd be necessary for me to say the magic words "Henry" and "Gross," but that'd be too obvious, so I won't.
  11:31pm
Joe:

I didn't have to buy it. THE BASS PLAYER IN THE SPACE SUIT GAVE IT TO ME FOR FREE.

So stop yelling at me.

But I still do want to buy their first one.
  11:31pm
BillyJam:

hi EFD - good show as always. Hey Micheal from the Left Coast - I admit that I own a copy (somewhere on album) of Nick Gilder "Hot CHild In The City" - damn now that song will be stuck in my head -:)
  11:33pm
Brian:

I do want the record to be clear. I was *not* the first to make a CanRock reference, much less a Nick Gilder one...
  11:37pm
Wilson from the Delta:

I love 1x2x Devastated. Sorry I missed that!
  11:38pm
william k:

if you play nick gilder, you may need to play donnie iris
  11:40pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Billyjam, there is no shame in liking or even loving Nick Gilder--he made really solid records--check "Got to Get Out" (one of the greatest rock songs I know)
  11:40pm
Here Comes Tim Sommer:

For Gods' sake, play "Albatross" by PiL and "Bel Air" by Can back-to-back and then say "That sounds realy, really good if you've just taken two benadryl and washed it down with a glass of whiskey. Now call me a cab."
  11:41pm
efd:

oooh, Donnie Iris. damn. Now "Ah Leah!" will be stuck in *my* head!
Billy, good to see you here - likewise Wilson and William and Joe (whom I was not addressing when urging the purchase of the Cyclone 60 album).
  11:42pm
Nick Gilder:

Thank you Evan, Micheal, Billy, William K.....now sing along with me: So young to be loose and on her own
Young boys, they all want to take her home
She goes downtown, the boys all stop and stare
When she goes downtown, she walks like she just don't care, care

(Hot child in the city)
(Hot child in the city)
(Runnin' wild and lookin' pretty)
Yeah
(Hot child in the city)......etc.
  11:42pm
william k:

hi timmy!
  11:42pm
efd:

Brian, it's really quite fortuitous that you're listening live with all this Nick Gilder talk. Maybe you can tell them about the time I opened my show by playing "Got To Get Out" something like 7 times in a row, backwards and forwards.

Oh! Hi Timmy! Wow, all the stars are out tonight.
  11:43pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Wait a minute--isn't Heart of Stone by SVT a 1979 record?
  11:43pm
william k:

how bout some tvp's? jet set junta anyone?
  11:44pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--I saw that playlist with Got to get out on it several times, unfortunately I didn't hear it live
  11:44pm
BillyJam:

damn Evan! how many songs you got on this collection? Is it a box set?
  11:46pm
jef:

Isn't Jet Set Junta the blessed Monochrome Set, also always welcome to stop by and stay a while...
  11:47pm
efd:

only 20 songs, Billy. And Michael, it's a mix of late 70s and early 80s songs, so SVT passes the test.
Wasn't Jet Set Junta the Monochrome Set?
  11:47pm
Brian:

Had I know all this Nick Gilder talk went on, I'd try to arrange for babysitting and listen live more often. It was a rare act of will that I didn't make a "Got to Get Out" FTW! reference.

(The Marathon Box Set Premium sounds yummy. I'm looking into harvesting some of my internal organs so I can pledge to the needed standard.)
  11:49pm
william k:

oh jeez, yr right! that's hy you're a dj and I am not.
it WAS the monochrome set!
  11:50pm
efd:

here's your CanCon, Brian.
  11:52pm
Brian:

I like that Dishes track even more than "High Class in Borrowed Shoes"
  12:04am
Joe:

Buckaroo Bonzai?! John Lithgow?! For REAL?!
  12:12am
efd:

thanks for getting that reference, Joe.
  12:15am
Joe:

There's actually some WFMU homepage-worthy quotes in that movie.

"We are not in the Eighth dimension, we are over New Jersey. Hope is not lost"
  12:27am
efd:

I haven't seen that movie in a long time. I do know that after I saw it I always chuckled when I was watching a baseball game that John Wathan was playing in.
  12:29am
Michael from the Left Coast:

I can't remember--was this the hit version of this song?
  12:31am
efd:

i believe so.
  12:45am
Brian:

I'd claim "Submaries of Stockholm", but last I heard Carl had moved from Van Rock City to Brooklyn.
  12:46am
Brian:

Er, "claim 'Submaries of Stockholm' as CanCon..."
  12:48am
efd:

That just reminded me of the Kids In The Hall sketch where Mark McKinney "claims this chest in the name of Spain."

Or was Kevin McDonald the Spanish representative?

CanComCon!
  12:51am
john:

DFFD!

(Well, someone had to do it, may as well have been me.)
  12:53am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Didn't some electropop band from the early eighties do this too? Neither that one nor this one hold a candle to the Vogues (single version in Mono of course).
  12:57am
john:

All I can think of is the Julian Cope version, but that was late 80s.
  1:14am
Joe:

Is the sic your sic or is the sic their sic.
  1:15am
efd:

that's my sic.
  1:18am
Joe:

ah.
  1:40am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Ah, the Crust--playing a rare date in LA on March 7!
  1:41am
efd:

that's right! And they'll be taping Jimmy Kimmel also - airing March 16, I think.
  1:42am
Joe:

These guys are sweet as hell - I've been listening the hell out of them since you played them last... I need them to play some NY dates. Bad.
  1:43am
Michael from the Left Coast:

But I can't imagine that they're not doing dates for a week between the 7th and the TV appearance on the 16th?
  1:43am
Joe:

Jesus that was incoherent. Time to stop studying and go to bed. Great show Efd
  1:44am
efd:

no, for some reason they're not going to be live on Kimmel - they're taping it sometime around the 7th, and it's airing the following week.
  1:45am
efd:

I kind of like the expression "listening the hell out of"
  1:47am
Joe:

would've shone brighter if I hadn't already said "hell" in the preceding simile. Que sera sera.
  1:58am
efd:

correction on the Upper Crust TV appearance, for anyone reading this who didn't hear me say it on the air: They'll be on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on March 16, and it's being taped on March 11.
  8:18pm
Dave McGurgan:

That picture is awesome. Marlene is sitting on a goldmine. Lucky gal.
  8:33am
Desert Jim:

Hey Even, How'd I go this long without knowing that DM3 track? Funkin' Brilliant! The new premium sounds great. I heard a few things I have on vinyl that I'll never have the chance to convert to the ipod, so that's handy. Hearing PAtrick D. Martin reminded me of another song I prolly haven't heard since it came out. Consider this a someday when you get around to it request: Moon Martin's Rolene or is it R-o-l-e-n-e? It sounds great in my head, but may have gotten a bit twisted after 25+ years...
