My grandparents had a parrot who, for no matter how much they tried, refused to learn any phrase they tried to teach it but would instead suddenly start repeating three or four words out of some random sentence it heard in passing, things like "I'm on the phone", or "he went home" and "so was Ted" and would always throw them out when they least made sense.
