  3:04pm
Jeff-a-chusetts:

i think i can hear the clouds parting. thanks!
  3:05pm
Cecile:

Irwin, if you like Howe Gelb, Lou Reed and ukeleles, I have a track for you.
The Wellington International Ukelele Orchestra did a cover of "Walk On The Wild Side" with Howe on lead vocals. It's on their MySpace page
  3:05pm
Cecile:

I can't get at it here, and I am a lame and didn't email it to you later. Just wanted to tell you before I forget forever.
  3:08pm
Sean Daily:

Seventh or so comment! Woo hoo!
  3:10pm
Lizardner Dave:

Fuck the planet? That's going to take a lot of Viagra for those of us over 40, Irwin.
  3:12pm
Cecile:

this free design remix is very witty
  3:12pm
Milhouse:

Not enough astroglide in the world to lube that... Giggity!
  3:12pm
Parq:

I donwanna seem like I'm baiting Irwin politically -- I'm not, I promise -- but I've always found it noteworthy that Dan Quayle once proclaimed a fairly ardent enthusiasm for the Free Design. I really wouldn't have guessed that he had that much arcane musical knowledge in him.
  3:14pm
timotato:

I concur. Forget about today's rain. It's supposed to be 84º (28º) here in NYC this weekend. Let's hear some summertime weekend music.
  3:16pm
Lizardner Dave:

That bit of keyboard in this MM&W reminded me of "Tarkus" for some reason.
  3:19pm
Cecile:

birthday!
  3:19pm
G.:

So you and earth are, like, twins?
  3:19pm
Pearly Sweets:

Happy Birthday, Irwin!

Happy anniversary of your natal day, Irwin!

The music is up loud in three rooms :-P

Dan Qualye went to the record store and asked for that record by the band 'Free Bird' or something, and that's what they sent him home with.

It is not Nabokov's birthday. Tomorrow is, adjusting for the odd-ball, pre-Soviet (Old Russian) calendar.
  3:22pm
Lady Chusid:

Oh it's your birthday...well... I'd offer a birthday spanking, but I don't think my hand could take that many swats! So a puritanical kiss will have to do!
  3:23pm
dragonflyjiards:

  3:24pm
Bad Ronald:

Oh really?
  3:25pm
dragonfryjiards:

Ms.Nature-you can do that?
  3:25pm
Mother Nature:

I'll send some lightning over to Hoboken this evening. What time do you get home, Irwin?
  3:28pm

You're gonna have some splainin' to do to the folks later when the planet comes home all knocked-up. Whadya gonna do then, Irwin?

Parq:

Happy, happy birthday, Ol' Pal, and many more of them. I will buy a drink in a non-returnable bottle in your honor.

PS "Puritanical Kiss" would make a good . . . you know . . .
  3:31pm
Pearly Sweets:

This is my favorite cake mix
  3:31pm
Laura L:

Irwin's allowed to punch somebody in the head today for a piece of cake! Choose wisely, Irwin, it comes but once a year.
  3:31pm
Happy Listener:

Happy Birthday, Irwin! It's my mother's b-day, too (1941).
  3:33pm
dragonflyhjiards:

i think he's punched mother earth in the head for cake
  3:33pm
Lizardner Dave:

Yeah, I guess I'll drink a beer on the SI Ferry on the way home and, in Irwin's honor I will throw the bottle in the regular trash instead of the recycling bins. Happy birthday, you Crichton-worshiping radio genius!
  3:34pm
Mother Nature:

It's not nice to mess with Mother nature.
  3:34pm
Sean Daily:

Well, Irwin, according to Anton LaVey, birthdays are one of the high holy days for a Satanist. Just think, if you'd pledged yourself to Lord Satan, you would have gotten a day off today!

Just something to think about for next year...
  3:36pm
Lizardner Dave:

And in honor of Irwin's birthday, Jandek is playing in NYC tomorrow. For free, too. http://www.villagevoice.com/events/jandek-1060245/
  3:37pm
Sean Daily:

This Christmas, the bad guys are going to learn... it's not nice to mess with Mother Nature.

MOTHER NATURE: FIRST BLOOD, PART TWO
  3:38pm
Parq:

Dave, you mean under other circumstances, there are people who would *pay* to hear Jandek?
  3:38pm
Mother Nature:

I got Lavey and Crichton too.
Don't mess with me. I'm superbad!
  3:39pm
Mother Nature:

Imposter!
  3:39pm
Bas, NL:

O darn... I was reaching for my dial here.. Dutch weirdness ;) That's 'Cleansing' on the album 'Songs of the Orderly Misery'..
  3:39pm
Lizardner Dave:

Parq, have you seen any of the youtube clips of the new, funky Jandek? It's....it's...listenable!
  3:40pm

I'll take it all back if you play Wichita Lineman.
  3:45pm

This song reminds me of the Kinks Celluloid Heroes.
  3:45pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Is playing 'Wichita Lineman' like playing 'Post Office'?
  3:45pm
Parq:

It's times like these I wish I'd been old enough to vote for Pat Paulson.

  4:05pm
DeemerDave:

I heard a few on Belock's show back in January. I liked what I heard. I can tell you they are all covers, no new material.
  4:12pm
Lizardner Dave:

Who would win in a fight, Efl Power or Cat Power or The Power Station?
  4:16pm
AnAnonymousParty:

These days the rules for the fight would be set so that there would be no winners or loser and everyone would get a trophy so nobody would feel left out.
  4:18pm
Cecile:

"Cecile-ive yet to hear HG,or giant sand,onWFMU-Where is it? "
I'm surprised you haven't, because FMU loves the Sand - GS did a disc called Backyard BBQ which was recorded at WFMU. And Irwin programs a lot of Giant Sand and Howe Gelb.

here's the WIUO's myspace page:
www.myspace.com\wellingtoninternationalukeleleorchestra.
You can also just google 'howe gelb" "wellington" and "ukelele"
It's right on the very front of their page.
  4:19pm
Marshall Stacks:

Dino Jr. could wallop all of them. Elves, cats, whatever - bring 'em on.
  4:19pm
Cecile:

aw, missed everyting between MM&W and Dinosaur
God I loved and still love that Dinosaur album.
  4:21pm
Marshall Stacks:

Cecile - right, great album, maybe their best. Hearing it makes me nostalgic, which is an appropriate sentiment for a birthday show.
  4:21pm
Zach in Philly:

Just tuning in after a grueling day at work and this "Lamento Borincano" is really hitting the spot~
  4:23pm

Humbert Humbert:

So, Vladimir, I see in earlier comments it is your birthday today/tomorrow. Best wishes, but I didn't get you anybody.
  4:34pm
