Mon. 4/20/09 9:04am From: BW

Mon. 4/20/09 9:06am From: duke

Crash

Mon. 4/20/09 9:07am From: zoot

I thought "High Rise" was even more compelling than "Drowned World." "Crash" for all-time creepiness, but I keep going back to "High Rise"

Mon. 4/20/09 9:13am From: annie

i see empire of the sun is on his list, that blew me away...

Mon. 4/20/09 9:15am From: bw

concrete island !! but the short stories are all so amazing

Mon. 4/20/09 9:15am From: annie

Mon. 4/20/09 9:17am From: annie

Mon. 4/20/09 9:17am From: postmanpaul

Mon. 4/20/09 9:20am From: Parq

The first three panels pretty much describe my morning so far.

Mon. 4/20/09 9:24am From: postmanpaul

parq - sign up for biodanza classes immediately!

Mon. 4/20/09 9:28am From: Parq

For those who (like me) didn't know what it is, from the first Google hit: "Biodanza is an expressive arts system that incorporates music, movement and authentic relationships with self, others, and the world to support health, joy and being fully alive." Um, yeah.

Mon. 4/20/09 9:29am From: bw

anyone make it through the later books? cocaine nights? Super Cannes?

Mon. 4/20/09 9:29am From: bw

biodanza it is!

Mon. 4/20/09 9:39am From: risky!

Mon. 4/20/09 9:39am From: PMD

i felt bad about bad mouthin the show? were any of you there? the yann tiersen show at the filmore on thursday?

Mon. 4/20/09 10:07am From: AnAnonymousParty

Does a volcano belch forth smoke in any way other than ominously? "The volcano was happily puffing fluffy rings of smoke while the children sang." is a line one doesn't often see. -OR- "Slowly, almost imperceptibly, their path became obstructed by a timid, passive tiger".

Mon. 4/20/09 10:07am From: postmanpaul

cheeky max miller might have put it this way:
...I was walking along this narrow mountain pass - so narrow that nobody else could pass you, when I saw a beautifuldark haired goddess walking towards me. A goddess with not a stitch on, yes, not a stitch on, lady. Cor blimey, I didn't know whether to toss myself off or block her passage.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:13am From: JD

Shouldn't the tiger plunge over the precipice with a *pierced* cry?

Mon. 4/20/09 10:13am From: PMD

Oh, poor tiger. He was just misunderstood.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:15am From: Pearly Sweets

This has been just the type of mellow set I need this Monday morning.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:16am From: artguyjfk

In honor of JG Ballard you should play The Normal's Warm Leatherette

Mon. 4/20/09 10:23am From: artguyjfk

join the car crash ser

Mon. 4/20/09 10:26am From: artguyjfk

how about atrocity exhibition by joy division?

Mon. 4/20/09 10:27am From: marty mcsorley

when i was 13 or 14 my parents found a my copy of crash. they made me go to therapy for the next 3 years

Mon. 4/20/09 10:27am From: Matt

Oh boy, what's gonna happen when he chops that web???

Mon. 4/20/09 10:30am From: Cecile

Mon. 4/20/09 10:33am From: Cecile

Mon. 4/20/09 10:33am From: marty

good thing you are all beters now

Mon. 4/20/09 10:36am From: skip

title? of Ballard novel where the entire world is crystallizing--beautiful self-destruction, so compelling, one cannot resist. then there's Hello America, with Charlie Manson as king of Las Vegas.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:37am From: rob w

I had a Ballard phase and I was pulled in by the way he created one obsessive rapidly-snowballing-downhill / devolving / increasingly extreme environment after another - High Rise, The Crystal World, The Drowned World...

Mon. 4/20/09 10:37am From: bw

thank god Idont gotta hit the dump button when he says MERDE

Mon. 4/20/09 10:38am From: north guinea hills

melody nelson

Mon. 4/20/09 10:39am From: Concrete Tallis

similar to The Crystal World but less often seen is Unlimited Dream Company...

Mon. 4/20/09 10:40am From: Cecile

hey, bw, could you slide some JDilla in there? if it fits the theory, of course

Mon. 4/20/09 10:41am From: Cecile

I have a lot of JG Ballard books that I have started over and over. Only one I could finish was Empire of the Sun, but boy that one is beautiful and haunting.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:46am From: bw

i hear you about empire of sun and crystal world

Mon. 4/20/09 10:48am From: Cecile

the cover of the edition I have of Crystal World is pretty cool in a cheesy OTT way.
Hell, I should just sell it.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:51am From: Cecile

wouldn't the knife edge of Richard's sword work just as well, cutting the web and all? But I guess fire is more exciting.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:54am From: Cecile

are these kids doing a Bonde de Role song or something?

Mon. 4/20/09 10:57am From: Parq

Could you send some of those biodanza guys to my office? This day is devolving by the minute.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:57am From: AnAnonymousParty

Richard's kind of a treacherous menace to himself and everything around him, eh? What's next, the volcano turns out to be made of coal, catches on file from the spider web fiasco and fills the air with CO2, raising global temperature for generations to come?

Mon. 4/20/09 10:58am From: JD

"She calls Richard's attention by calling?" Way to narrate with narration.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:59am From: Cecile

Yes, and as the polar bears die, Richard's name as a curse is growled out to the heavens.

bw, these last two songs are killer. Killer in a killer show.

Mon. 4/20/09 10:59am From: dc pat

"Raton"? isn't that mouse in Espanol?

Mon. 4/20/09 10:59am From: AnAnonymousParty

Brought to you by you dept. of redundancy dept.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:01am From: Cecile

Boca Raton means vegetarian mouse burger?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:01am From: still b/p

Want Lichtenstein-type poster of first panel of this comic for my birthday. Although her knees trouble me.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:01am From: GP

Moning BW and everyone. Its been awhile since I have been able to listen on Mondays.

"Crash" to answer your earlier question.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:02am From: Cecile singing along with KC

she has man-legs.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:05am From: AnAnonymousParty

Residents of Boca Raton bristle to their town being referred to simply as 'Raton' much as residents of San Francisco do to 'Frisco".

Mon. 4/20/09 11:06am From: kadar

what's the background music now, it's really nice...

Mon. 4/20/09 11:07am From: GP

BW, what ever happened to the movie review lady? Was she on your show at one time?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:07am From: bw

something from a band called wish mountain

Mon. 4/20/09 11:08am From: kadar

cool. thanks man. reminds of this brooklyn band Ann Anderson

Mon. 4/20/09 11:08am From: War

Frisco Kid was a friend of mine.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:09am From: postmanpaul

cecile, i could not help but notice that too.

of richard - james j. kilpatrick put it this way
...a timid and unadventurous comicperson who gives me the impression that he is a colorless, indecisive wimp, and not a leader among men.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:10am From: snstrdxtr

r.i.p. j.g. ballard ..... i liked concrete island ... thanks for the the music bw

Mon. 4/20/09 11:11am From: Cecile

oh, i love this song.
Busing killed our kids!

Mon. 4/20/09 11:12am From: still b/p

Please to be serving iced tea with annihilating potion to T Tommy.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:13am From: Parq

I've always heard Boca Raton called "Boca", not "Raton," much the way Studio 54 regulars used to call it "Studio". And why do people say "Jersey", but not "York" or "Hampshire"?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:13am From: annie

that'll teach em. i'll sing a song about a bus.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:16am From: AnAnonymousParty

So, what happened in the hours that passed from the witch's advances and Alice and Richard's escape? Missing pages for some reason? Hmm....

Mon. 4/20/09 11:19am From: Parq

Appropos earlier posts, you will also never see an evil witch "lulled into a sleeping, peaceful passsing by the gently simmering lava."

Mon. 4/20/09 11:20am From: Scorpions

they had a black OUT!

Mon. 4/20/09 11:21am From: dc pat

whoa! Hank and Wayne the train in one set!!

Mon. 4/20/09 11:22am From: Sean Daily

Not even close to first coment! Woo hoo!

Mon. 4/20/09 11:23am From: PMD

Is this a dance party now that the witch is dead?
LOL at Parq...
Never mind, the music just slowed down

Mon. 4/20/09 11:24am From: still b/p

Don't attack another man's Alice.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:26am From: postmanpaul

parq- that is an interesting observation, could it be that when saying 'new jersey' the breath is at least partly obstructed, as with the pronunciation of a consonant? personally i believe there's too much of this sort of thing going on

Mon. 4/20/09 11:26am From: GP

"There's an evil doers end!"...my new favorite expression.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:26am From: Ken

Hello Benjamen - I think you are doing a regular playlist, not an accuplaylist. Shall I come down there and hold your hand?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:28am From: AnAnonymousParty

I just think it's telling that Alice is protesting being 'touched by that woman' and Richard interjecting 'Not!'

"The witch prepared Alice for the attack by stating in a calm. yet firm manner: Do not be alarmed, Alice but I am about to attack you from the rear. Alice braced herself appropriately."

Mon. 4/20/09 11:30am From: dc pat

so how's everybody doing up there in York?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:30am From: Jøe Steele

Richard has the the most boring lines after he kills something.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:31am From: Alice

Hey everyone. Did I miss anything?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:31am From: GP

Exactly Joe, where are the James Bond like witticisms when you need them?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:31am From: AnAnonymousParty

Richard is no James Bond.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:31am From: Ralph Kramden

Front, rear...doesn't matter. With Alice, its still to the moon -- bang, zoom!

Mon. 4/20/09 11:31am From: Amar

Sensitive is BW's middle name

Mon. 4/20/09 11:33am From: Cecile

Yeah, why are you still with Richard?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:33am From: PMD

Alice looks like the devil in that last panel..

Mon. 4/20/09 11:35am From: postmanpaul

ananonymousparty - what were you suggesting? rinse your mouth out this instant with the old hags annihilating soap water potion.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:36am From: Alice

Richard has this 'potion' see, and even when I try to stray he's quick with his sword or a handy pool of Lava. Damn him and his 'slack rope'.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:37am From: AnAnonymousParty

pmp, Res Ipsa Loquitur.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:37am From: Cecile

You should have taken the witch up on her offer. Are you kicking yourself now?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:37am From: Ken

You are diabolical Benjamen Walker!! What a thought, corporate youtube brand sabotage...

Mon. 4/20/09 11:40am From: Cecile

wish you would have thought of that yourself, Ken?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:40am From: DBinNYC

Whatever that track was at 11:38 - it was smoking!

Mon. 4/20/09 11:42am From: dc pat

THIS track is smokin! Crystal antlers?? amazing.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:44am From: Parq

If you will permit a variation on a theme, "The Crystal Antlers" would make a good name for a tavern.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:45am From: Ken

Cecile - You know me too well. I love you.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:46am From: Ken

Damn, appy burger sounds almost exactly like Psychedelic Horseshit

Mon. 4/20/09 11:48am From: bw

thats HAPPY BURGER - Ken - I was pronouncing it the French way

Mon. 4/20/09 11:49am From: AnAnonymousParty

'Psychedelic Horseshit', is that the name of a band or a genre? Or is there actually psychedelic horseshit?

Mon. 4/20/09 11:49am From: chris

I'd have bet the farm that was Arthur Lee. This King Kahn thing is cool.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:51am From: postmanpaul

exactly, i'm with you ken. and they taste ike that too.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:51am From: Cecile

I love you too, Ken.

Mon. 4/20/09 11:52am From: GP

Did anyone catch the Simpson's on Friday? It was a rerun of a Valentines Day theme show that I had not seen before, Nelson was Sid Vicious and Lisa was Nancy..both brutally addicted to chocolate...Bart of course was Johnny Rotten. Comic Book Guy ran C.B.G.B.'s except as he correctly pointed out the initials stood for "Comic Book Guys Bar"....anyhow, it was good for a few laughs.
