Listener comments!

  9:04am
BW:

so listener land - whats the JG BALLARD story that blew your mind?
  9:06am
duke:

Crash
  9:07am
zoot:

I thought "High Rise" was even more compelling than "Drowned World." "Crash" for all-time creepiness, but I keep going back to "High Rise"
  9:13am
annie:

i see empire of the sun is on his list, that blew me away...
  9:15am
bw:

concrete island !! but the short stories are all so amazing
  9:15am
annie:

i just saw "icecake" this weekend.. with sigourney weaver.. wow, great film; really really.
  9:17am
annie:

"snowcake"? yeah, snowcake.. sorry, no brain yet..
  9:17am
postmanpaul:

I'm your man for taking that letter benjamen!
and suddenly the sand gave way under alices particularly masculine hairy legs...yeah, my kind of amazonianwoman, wuba wuba.
  9:20am
Parq:

The first three panels pretty much describe my morning so far.
  9:24am
postmanpaul:

parq - sign up for biodanza classes immediately!
  9:28am
Parq:

For those who (like me) didn't know what it is, from the first Google hit: "Biodanza is an expressive arts system that incorporates music, movement and authentic relationships with self, others, and the world to support health, joy and being fully alive." Um, yeah.
  9:29am
bw:

anyone make it through the later books? cocaine nights? Super Cannes?
  9:29am
bw:

biodanza it is!
  9:39am
risky!:

morning all!
  9:39am
PMD:

I guess superheroines didn't wear bras back in the days..
  9:41am
postmanpaul:

and they are hairy too! help me, i'm think i'm falling in....
  9:42am
bw:

Queen blackamoor is my friend!
  9:50am
still b/p:

  9:50am
postmanpaul:

  9:54am
karao:

i think i've heard this song somewhere...what film was that?
  9:55am
bw:

heh u funny like a KO
  10:04am
bw:

i felt bad about bad mouthin the show? were any of you there? the yann tiersen show at the filmore on thursday?
  10:07am
AnAnonymousParty:

Does a volcano belch forth smoke in any way other than ominously? "The volcano was happily puffing fluffy rings of smoke while the children sang." is a line one doesn't often see. -OR- "Slowly, almost imperceptibly, their path became obstructed by a timid, passive tiger".
  10:07am
postmanpaul:

cheeky max miller might have put it this way:
...I was walking along this narrow mountain pass - so narrow that nobody else could pass you, when I saw a beautifuldark haired goddess walking towards me. A goddess with not a stitch on, yes, not a stitch on, lady. Cor blimey, I didn't know whether to toss myself off or block her passage.
  10:13am
JD:

Shouldn't the tiger plunge over the precipice with a *pierced* cry?
  10:13am
PMD:

Oh, poor tiger. He was just misunderstood.
  10:15am
Pearly Sweets:

This has been just the type of mellow set I need this Monday morning.
  10:16am
artguyjfk:

In honor of JG Ballard you should play The Normal's Warm Leatherette
  10:23am
artguyjfk:

join the car crash ser
  10:26am
artguyjfk:

how about atrocity exhibition by joy division?
  10:27am
marty mcsorley:

when i was 13 or 14 my parents found a my copy of crash. they made me go to therapy for the next 3 years
  10:27am
Matt:

Oh boy, what's gonna happen when he chops that web???
  10:30am
Cecile:

mornin'!
  10:31am
Pearly Sweets:

Aloha, Cecile
  10:33am
Cecile:

aloha, Pearly!
  10:33am
marty:

good thing you are all beters now
  10:36am
skip:

title? of Ballard novel where the entire world is crystallizing--beautiful self-destruction, so compelling, one cannot resist. then there's Hello America, with Charlie Manson as king of Las Vegas.
  10:37am
rob w:

I had a Ballard phase and I was pulled in by the way he created one obsessive rapidly-snowballing-downhill / devolving / increasingly extreme environment after another - High Rise, The Crystal World, The Drowned World...
  10:37am
bw:

thank god Idont gotta hit the dump button when he says MERDE
  10:38am
north guinea hills:

melody nelson
  10:39am
Concrete Tallis:

similar to The Crystal World but less often seen is Unlimited Dream Company...
  10:40am
Cecile:

hey, bw, could you slide some JDilla in there? if it fits the theory, of course
  10:41am
Cecile:

I have a lot of JG Ballard books that I have started over and over. Only one I could finish was Empire of the Sun, but boy that one is beautiful and haunting.
  10:46am
bw:

i hear you about empire of sun and crystal world
  10:48am
Cecile:

the cover of the edition I have of Crystal World is pretty cool in a cheesy OTT way.
Hell, I should just sell it.
  10:51am
Cecile:

wouldn't the knife edge of Richard's sword work just as well, cutting the web and all? But I guess fire is more exciting.
  10:54am
Cecile:

are these kids doing a Bonde de Role song or something?
  10:57am
Parq:

Could you send some of those biodanza guys to my office? This day is devolving by the minute.
  10:57am
AnAnonymousParty:

Richard's kind of a treacherous menace to himself and everything around him, eh? What's next, the volcano turns out to be made of coal, catches on file from the spider web fiasco and fills the air with CO2, raising global temperature for generations to come?
  10:58am
JD:

"She calls Richard's attention by calling?" Way to narrate with narration.
  10:59am
Cecile:

Yes, and as the polar bears die, Richard's name as a curse is growled out to the heavens.

bw, these last two songs are killer. Killer in a killer show.
  10:59am
dc pat:

"Raton"? isn't that mouse in Espanol?
  10:59am
AnAnonymousParty:

Brought to you by you dept. of redundancy dept.
  11:01am
Cecile:

Boca Raton means vegetarian mouse burger?
  11:01am
still b/p:

Want Lichtenstein-type poster of first panel of this comic for my birthday. Although her knees trouble me.
  11:01am
GP:

Moning BW and everyone. Its been awhile since I have been able to listen on Mondays.

"Crash" to answer your earlier question.
  11:02am
Cecile singing along with KC:

she has man-legs.
  11:05am
AnAnonymousParty:

Residents of Boca Raton bristle to their town being referred to simply as 'Raton' much as residents of San Francisco do to 'Frisco".
  11:06am
kadar:

what's the background music now, it's really nice...
  11:07am
GP:

BW, what ever happened to the movie review lady? Was she on your show at one time?
  11:07am
bw:

something from a band called wish mountain
  11:08am
kadar:

cool. thanks man. reminds of this brooklyn band Ann Anderson
  11:08am
War:

Frisco Kid was a friend of mine.
  11:09am
postmanpaul:

cecile, i could not help but notice that too.

of richard - james j. kilpatrick put it this way
...a timid and unadventurous comicperson who gives me the impression that he is a colorless, indecisive wimp, and not a leader among men.
  11:10am
snstrdxtr:

r.i.p. j.g. ballard ..... i liked concrete island ... thanks for the the music bw
  11:11am
Cecile:

oh, i love this song.
Busing killed our kids!
  11:12am
still b/p:

Please to be serving iced tea with annihilating potion to T Tommy.
  11:13am
Parq:

I've always heard Boca Raton called "Boca", not "Raton," much the way Studio 54 regulars used to call it "Studio". And why do people say "Jersey", but not "York" or "Hampshire"?
  11:13am
annie:

that'll teach em. i'll sing a song about a bus.
  11:16am
AnAnonymousParty:

So, what happened in the hours that passed from the witch's advances and Alice and Richard's escape? Missing pages for some reason? Hmm....
  11:19am
Parq:

Appropos earlier posts, you will also never see an evil witch "lulled into a sleeping, peaceful passsing by the gently simmering lava."
  11:20am
Scorpions:

they had a black OUT!
  11:21am
dc pat:

whoa! Hank and Wayne the train in one set!!
  11:22am
Sean Daily:

Not even close to first coment! Woo hoo!
  11:23am
PMD:

Is this a dance party now that the witch is dead?
LOL at Parq...
Never mind, the music just slowed down
  11:24am
still b/p:

Don't attack another man's Alice.
  11:26am
postmanpaul:

parq- that is an interesting observation, could it be that when saying 'new jersey' the breath is at least partly obstructed, as with the pronunciation of a consonant? personally i believe there's too much of this sort of thing going on
  11:26am
GP:

"There's an evil doers end!"...my new favorite expression.
  11:26am
Ken:

Hello Benjamen - I think you are doing a regular playlist, not an accuplaylist. Shall I come down there and hold your hand?
  11:28am
AnAnonymousParty:

I just think it's telling that Alice is protesting being 'touched by that woman' and Richard interjecting 'Not!'

"The witch prepared Alice for the attack by stating in a calm. yet firm manner: Do not be alarmed, Alice but I am about to attack you from the rear. Alice braced herself appropriately."
  11:30am
dc pat:

so how's everybody doing up there in York?
  11:30am
Jøe Steele:

Richard has the the most boring lines after he kills something.
  11:31am
Alice:

Hey everyone. Did I miss anything?
  11:31am
GP:

Exactly Joe, where are the James Bond like witticisms when you need them?
  11:31am
AnAnonymousParty:

Richard is no James Bond.
  11:31am
Ralph Kramden:

Front, rear...doesn't matter. With Alice, its still to the moon -- bang, zoom!
  11:31am
Amar:

Sensitive is BW's middle name
  11:33am
Cecile:

Yeah, why are you still with Richard?
  11:33am
PMD:

Alice looks like the devil in that last panel..
  11:35am
postmanpaul:

ananonymousparty - what were you suggesting? rinse your mouth out this instant with the old hags annihilating soap water potion.
  11:36am
Alice:

Richard has this 'potion' see, and even when I try to stray he's quick with his sword or a handy pool of Lava. Damn him and his 'slack rope'.
  11:37am
AnAnonymousParty:

pmp, Res Ipsa Loquitur.
  11:37am
Cecile:

You should have taken the witch up on her offer. Are you kicking yourself now?
  11:37am
Ken:

You are diabolical Benjamen Walker!! What a thought, corporate youtube brand sabotage...
  11:40am
Cecile:

wish you would have thought of that yourself, Ken?
  11:40am
DBinNYC:

Whatever that track was at 11:38 - it was smoking!
  11:42am
dc pat:

THIS track is smokin! Crystal antlers?? amazing.
  11:44am
Parq:

If you will permit a variation on a theme, "The Crystal Antlers" would make a good name for a tavern.
  11:45am
Ken:

Cecile - You know me too well. I love you.
  11:46am
Ken:

Damn, appy burger sounds almost exactly like Psychedelic Horseshit
  11:48am
bw:

thats HAPPY BURGER - Ken - I was pronouncing it the French way
  11:49am
AnAnonymousParty:

'Psychedelic Horseshit', is that the name of a band or a genre? Or is there actually psychedelic horseshit?
  11:49am
chris:

I'd have bet the farm that was Arthur Lee. This King Kahn thing is cool.
  11:51am
postmanpaul:

exactly, i'm with you ken. and they taste ike that too.
  11:51am
Cecile:

I love you too, Ken.
  11:52am
GP:

Did anyone catch the Simpson's on Friday? It was a rerun of a Valentines Day theme show that I had not seen before, Nelson was Sid Vicious and Lisa was Nancy..both brutally addicted to chocolate...Bart of course was Johnny Rotten. Comic Book Guy ran C.B.G.B.'s except as he correctly pointed out the initials stood for "Comic Book Guys Bar"....anyhow, it was good for a few laughs.
