  3:03pm
Pearly Sweets:

Hooray for Clay!
  3:04pm
wait is over!:

been craving a more traditional Dusty show for some time...just tunes...thank u
  3:05pm
still b/p:

From Bobby's album, "Cougar Huntin'!"
  3:06pm
Steven S:

no question, that Bobby G. song is f*ckin' awesome.
  3:07pm
Bad Ronald:

Howdy Clay, I am a huge fan, thank you!
  3:08pm
Pearly Sweets:

Last week's dusty show was wonderful. This show will serve as the perfect palate cleanser for Thursday. I usually stick around work an extra thirty minutes just to make sure I catch the end of it.
  3:08pm
Parq:

Hellos upon you, Clay. Mighty nice in the Madison Square nabe this afternoon, but thanks to you, it's also very nice on the radio.

B/p, 'taint a new theme. "Summer of '42" trod those paths decades ago. And let's not even get started on Oedipus.
  3:09pm
GP:

Good afternoon Clay...got some technical questions for you for later, but I'll just listen now....nice start!
  3:10pm
G.:

Your on-the-street segments were one of the first things that got me listening to the station when I came across them while scanning along the dial a couple of years back. (I also happened to know all of the 70s-era bed musics you used.) Hang in there, guy...
  3:13pm
Nostradamus:

I just know we will be hearing Brewer and Shipley very soon in these parts.
  3:14pm
Skeet Shooter:

Did someone say clay pigeon?
  3:16pm
Nostrildumbass:

I have a feeling shit's 'bout to get mega stupid in here! Interior-Crocodile-Alligator. I Drive a Chevrolet Movie Theater.

  3:17pm
Uncanned Heat:

really kinda warm for this time of year... hey, i'm polar bear ebola!!!
  3:18pm
Parq:

It's probably way too long for a show like this, but Canned Heat's Woodstock set-closer, captured on the "Woodstock II" release, always kills me. Not a lot of virtuoso musicianship going on, but man, what heart!
  3:20pm
Merv Griffin:

He said polar bear ebola penny a pitch...
  3:20pm
GP:

Clay, O.K. I'll just get it out of my system and ask now.
For your street shows are you using a Marantz recorder?
What kind of mike do you use?
Is all of your post processing on analog back to tape?
O.K. I'll shut up now.
  3:22pm
Skeet Shooter:

Hey Clay, you want me to shoot that CAPS key for ya'?
  3:23pm
Studio Keyboard:

Pull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ale and Quail Club:

Throw up a cracker!

(The Palm Beach Story)

Talk as much as you want Clay! It is soothing, informative, and entertaining!

How come I never heard this Jose treatment before? Oh yeah, that was when I used to listen to those other stations that only had "Light my Fire" as their token Jose.
  3:32pm
Appreciative:

Nice set. Jose sounds like he hired Bobby Gentry's string section!
  3:32pm
Roseanne Barr:

HUH!???
  3:32pm
GP:

Dag...This Feliciano is FREAKIN awesome. Never heard it beofore.
  3:34pm

It was rolling along GREAT! And then the showtunes hit...
  3:35pm
nasko:

hello my honey
hello my baby
hello my ragtime ga-aaal
  3:36pm
markmaloof:

Just kiddin' (a bit) about the showtunes part. The Newman is a nice return, and tthat Jose Feliciano cover of "dreamin' was a super pleasant surprise for the day.
  3:36pm
as Bob Marley said...:

...just can't live that negative way...gotta make way for the positive day....long live Show tunes
  3:37pm
Pearly Sweets:

You might say showtunes, but this song is two steps away from METAL
  3:37pm
Irving Berlin:

Huh?
  3:37pm
markmaloof:

Jesus Christ fucking Superstar! You do rule now!
  3:38pm
Michigan J. Frog:

Watch it, Nakso, that's *my* tune.
  3:38pm

  3:38pm

I swear this is a Mercyful Fate song.
  3:38pm

I can see Kenny G doing this!
  3:38pm
King Diamond:

Crucify!
  3:38pm
huge:

I LOVE The Dusty Show. Clay Pigeon's podcasts kept me sane as I drove across the country and back (6000 miles).
  3:40pm
The Count:

I love this part!
  3:40pm
nasko:

actually, the film version of "we're in the money" from goldiggers '33 where ginger rogers does an entire verse in pig latin would be rather topical right now. winesay lufay?
  3:40pm
?:

whew. Sometimes I think I am being prejudiced in dismissing the entire genre of showtunes out of hand. Thanks for reminding me that I just don't like them. Yuck.
  3:41pm
markmaloof:

But I think that the film soundtrack of Jesus Christ Superstar had the cooler sounding Judas (yeah, I know it's not a Judas song we are listening to now, but I had a discussion once with one of my stoner friends in (getting) High School about which was the cooler sounding Judas, the show soundtrack or the film's. He dug the stage Judas, but I though the film soundtrack Judas was more hip and soulful.
  3:41pm
dc pat:

I'm with ?...but I did listen to this a lot when I was a kid..
  3:41pm
Pearly Sweets:

Irwin: "If it was in french, you'd love it."
  3:43pm
esch oder anarchie!:

I share the general sentiment against showtunes but I gotta say, if I ever get whipped I hope that there's a cool guitar riff like that one playing as they're counting off the blows.
  3:43pm
annie:

sorry, isn't it inesway uflay? all consonants moved? i learned back in the 50s... hhm, must be dialectical....
  3:44pm
annie:

speaking of show tunes; you got any susan boyle..?? ok, ok...i LOVE show tunes, especially the old broadway stuff
  3:45pm
esch oder anarchie!:

Madeline moment: as a kid, I tried to load my dad's JesusChristSuperstar soundtrack into his state-of-the-art reel-to-reel player, messed up and ended up with a pile of tangled tape on the floor. Took the pile and hid it in the garbage can outside. Forgive me Father!
  3:47pm
Pearly Sweets:

Bloodrock!!!
  3:49pm
Dad and pround owner of new reel-to reel:

Why I oughta!!!
  3:51pm
G.:

Madeline moment Part Deux

Right after it first came out (1970?) the nuns loved playing JCSuperstar for us Beatles- and Guess-Who-listening middle schoolers, so they could "relate" to us. That tells you about how old *I* am...
  3:53pm

Sister Rupert (7th grade) did not like the Lord being called "JC".

For reasons that I've discussed before (and will not bore you by repeating), "Jesus Christ Superstar", more than any other album, genuinely changed my life. Now, it happens that I love show tunes, but that aside, calling the original "JCS" album "show tunes" is like referring to "Tommy" as "opera music".
  3:57pm

and as much as I adore your POTS shows, Clay Pigeon, it is nice to hear you program a bunch of music for a change

That version of Days of Wine and Roses was different from the one by Andy typically heard in "Music of Your Life" radio playlists. Now, who, I say who, woulda thunk such a note would be taken here?

  4:32pm

I cannot believe I am hearing one of my favorite Jack Jones songs on WFMU. You are doing an amzing show CP, and you should consider doing a music show and certainly more fill-ins. Quite refreshing.
  4:33pm
still b/p:

Been waiting years for an opportunity to sing "Wiives and Lovers" in a Most Unlikely Campfire Song contest.

annie - just lost the last local programming with a similar format, albeit pretty fuzzed and bent version with Kenny Rogers and contemporary entries cluttering and dulling things. But for the first time in a couple of decades, no 40s - 60s singers/songbook available to me on local commercial radio any more. Shame.
  4:34pm

Man, you gotta play "Starship Trooper" by Yes, and I'll light up a joint in the living room. Seriously, what classic rock station is gonna play "Starship Trooper" these days, it's just gonna be "Roundabout", ya know (or, as I liked to call it, Roustabout, for proggy circus and carnival workers.)

Robert1014:

I'm 53 and remember much of what you've been playing today. I hated the 70s as I lived them in northeast Florida. When I think back on that era the word that comes to mind is "torpid." Yet, it was the era of punk, the most exciting cultural development I ever lived through, and even much of the mainstream music that I hated then I can listen to with pleasure now. I even look back now at the cultural attitudes prevalent then and it was by far a looser, different time than our much more rigid authoritarian era today. As for "Siberian Khatru," YES were the first band I saw in concert, on their 1972 CLOSE TO THE EDGE tour, (with the Eagles as their opening act) and I've always favored this among their albums. (In fact, it was their last good one!)

I'm enjoying your show very much.

  4:50pm
cod:

nice work, clay. you've hit your stride. is this Missing Persons a segue? (dale Bozzio and the band 'UK')?
  4:50pm
G.:

If you get into collecting their live shows (Yes's), actually of all the several hundred I've got I'd say in some ways the best is the June 1976 Roosevelt Stadium **Jersey City** ROIO (Recording of Indeterminate Origin, a tongue in cheek terms we traders use). It's off the WNEW-FM/WYSP board; they did a simulacast. Yes opened with Siberian K for years, often still do...
  4:50pm
markmaloof:

Still like Dale Bozzio best when she was doing dirty voices on Zappa's Joe's Garage. I worked on a shoot with child music prodigies in Austin, and one kid had Terry Bozzio as a drum teacher, not bad. Liked him better as a drummer with Zappa than Missing Peeholes, but sure the MP gig made him a bit a little more money than playing with the Z man, at least for the blink of an eye.
  4:51pm
rock blue:

parq yeah, i remember that guy who played squiggi and some other guy did the bit
  4:52pm

whoops, I meant terry bozzio and UK (prog rock connection)
  4:53pm
Joel A:

OMG... Flock of Seaguls! Brings back memories of ex-wife
  4:53pm
markmaloof:

Sad to say I saw Flock of Haircuts twice, both times as an opening act. The second time was an "ultimate" early 80s concert, Flock of Haircuts, The FIxx, and then the Police. Hmmm, while the 70s mainstream had some great rock music at times, the 80s mainstream had lots of sub-par going on (it was the underground of the 80s where IT all lived, always will cherish those shows, that radio, those records....)
  4:53pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

how is this playlist corresponding to what is being posted?...umm...it's NOT, that's how. i would welcome some Bare Trees over this 80s pap.

Given today's political situtation, maybe "I Ran" would've been a better choice.
  4:55pm

Hey G.: I was at that Roosevelt Stadium Yes Show. I was young- only 12- but I remember it well; I went with my older sister and her friends. First time I smoked pot. Great to remember that! Thanks Clay!

Clay, you deserve an assistant playlist maker/back rub giver
  5:00pm

Glad to help, Andy. Yes, 1976 is roughly as far into nostalgia territory now as Bing Crosy was in 1976. -- Allison Steele (RIP 1995) was talking on the FM simulcast about "wow, the laser lights reflecting off the Manhattan skyscrapers and the oraring flames" back projection during the encore. Dude, don't harsh on the Flock. So maybe they didn't put out _many_ good tunes, but "Space Age Love Song" is one of my favorite pop gems ever.
  5:01pm
Pearly Sweets:

Man so much talk about the playlist. He tells you during the mic breaks. Just pretend you're in the car or something.
  5:02pm

Amen, Pearly Sweets! (on the "He tells you during the mic breaks" thing, and The Flock thing.)
Clay's mic breaks are half the fun of listening to his programs, anyway, so just wait for it and enjoy. Or change the station if you don't.
  5:04pm
Bad Ronald:

Jeez, I was singing this earlier today and I thought "canyons" of my mind but I knew it should have been some sort of plant. Thanks!

Clay is one of the four heartbeats of FMU for me. I love everyone, but there are four I can't miss and will fight tooth and nail for from my couch fortress or cubicle outpost.

Ah yes- Allison Steele, the Nightbird... she's was a bit much; but I listened to her in secret in bed ( I had a stupidly early bedtime...).

Not having a summer breeze here today in Nova Scotia- right here on the coast, the wind is blowing and it's about 7 degrees- that's 45 for yous all.
