  10:42am stingy d:

who's the drummer here doug? also, do you know of roy burns? hi everbodies!
  10:43am miketp:

take your shakers bells bongos to your backyards parks. lets make some noise
  10:47am Drummer Some:

Stingy,
This drummer is the wonderful Warren Smith. He's one of the true unsung heroes of music. Been on thousands of vital records but few have heard of him. (His brother was in a cooperative art gallery with my Moms in D.C. for a while. May still be, in fact.) Smith was in Max Roach's M'Boom, which is like reaching the highest order of percussive beinghood.

Roy Burns, wow that name is a blast from my past. As a little tyke with sticks and a drum pad, I usta practice to instruction books by Roy Burns!
  10:50am stingy d:

oh wow! all things awesome, doug! i'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for the name warrne smith going forward.

and i bring up roy burns because i have this record called "drum set artistry" featuring roy burns and a big band. and it's phenomenal and reminded me a little of what warren smith had going on just there. and it's also reminiscent of this here gerry hemingway.. but it's, obviously, a bigger boom.
  11:01am dc pat:

this Sunny Murray drumming is nothing to sneeze at either
  11:05am stingy d:

yea this set is making me fuzzy feelin... gonna go watch tyson in a little while... sure to have positive vibes
  11:13am annie:

off to play, you wonderful people... have a long nice weekend. PMD- if you are around on monday... well, i might get out there somehow.. see y'all.
  11:18am dc pat:

later annie, take it easy.
  11:18am Cecile:

synch is off. Sounds cool, though
  11:19am Cecile:

annie, have a great long weekend.
  11:19am dc pat:

I really dug that Ya tune--reading up on Synny Murray now. Started out with Cecil Taylor. I like how he really whaled on those cymbals..
  11:34am Carmichael:

Good morning Doug and fellow Friday-ites.
  11:39am Elias:

Thanks for the birthday show, Doug. I was born on this day thirty eight years ago in the Exotic burg of Oberlin, Ohio. I've already gotten a free donut, and told a gaggle of kids outside L.I.C. high school that school ended early today. What can happen next?
  11:43am Carmichael:

Happy B Day Elias. Perhaps you wil win a 3 day home holiday visit from Rip Taylor.
  11:45am Drummer Some:

Hey hey Elias!
Happy B-Day. Mine is next Thurdsay. Nice to see you just made it into the Gemini brotherhood. I know Oberlin well. WOBC was the scene of my first radio experience (not to mention a few classes and exams and such).
  11:47am Ike:

Nifty! I was in the mood for this after briefly seeing Salieu Suso playing his kora at Penn Station. He's really good and the kora is always fascinating.
  11:48am 44074:

WOBC for life!!!

WFMU too.
  11:53am Elias:

Ah WOBC. We thought that calling up and requesting the Jose Feliciano version of Light My Fire was the most hilarious thing possible. At age ten, it was. That and pea shooter wars in Mudd Library while students were studying. Nothing like seeing five kids, being chased by five other kids making their retreat by jumping from the third floor onto the second onto a big pile of pillows placed there speciifcally for escape. And don't be fooled, a mouthful of those target peas hurts like hell!
  11:57am Elias:

Doug, my brother stole the John Lee Hooker "I feel good" album from WOBC. But then he felt bad and returned it. I imagine that record may have been played by you.
  12:02pm Elias:

Lastly, Happy birthday next thursday Doug!
