Morning Ken - lovely sunny day in London - just moved my computers into the garden to work. Looking forward to returning to the air tonight, hurray
  9:19am dei x:

Janet, can you set up some sort of random commenter 'bot so that we can feel your presence in your absence?
  9:19am Seamus:

When it gets hot in Sagnasty, guns start going off and crime sweeps the streets. I must camp out at home to stay safe for the next 2 or 3 weeks. Thanks Ken and WFMU for giving me safety and pleasure for the next month.
  9:19am Janet H:

live is always better.....i'm so sad!
  9:20am Cecile:

Kenny G. broke my heart.
I don't care about him any more.
And I loved Maria's moon show
  9:22am Janet H:

  9:28am PMD:

Mornin' all - I've already missed so much! Ken, thanks for the lovely lovely photos so far. I've learned I shouldn't wear a hat and drinking tea/coffee makes you smile.
  9:28am Ken:

Vicki - I think i foubnd a board op for you and he might even be a Brit!!
  9:29am Ken:

Dave, you are ruining the integrity of the comments column and it shall not stand.
  9:29am Janet H:

Ken, I know it's hard to choose....havin' a job or Ken's show...it's a tough decision!
  9:30am Cecile:

Ken, I think "Be Nice to the People" by Question Mark is my musical request today.
A shout out to the dickhead running Iran.
  9:31am Ken:

I know it's tough Janet. But I trust that you will come to your senses and make the right and decent decision.
  9:31am Cecile:

I mean a plea
  9:32am annie:

  9:41am PMD:

  9:42am annie:

are you willing to listen without the comments? cause you could find earbuds and use winamp...no glaring websites..
  9:43am Lizardner Dave:

Ken, I always was an outside the box thinker. Ha! What a zingerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
  9:45am annie:

wow, i had no idea this was gonna be a regularly played tune.. i love this!
  9:46am trissh:

I'm usually more productive the mornings I listen. It's unusual when I'm not and typically unradio related. If some sound happens to get in the way, I just turn it down for a bit.

Dave, isn't it 'zingger' like 'finger'
  9:46am trissh:

  9:51am PMD:

Ken, how about one of those garden orbs?
  9:52am Parq:

Dial-up users are dial-up losers. Neener.
  9:53am Sven:

Real Player is corporate crap.
  9:54am Janet H:

what do i need so i can listen to it on my cellphone?
  9:54am BSI:

Why has it taken me THIS FRIGGIN' LONG to tune in?
Why, Ken, why?!?!?
  9:55am Bender Bending Rodriguez:

Well forget you guys, I'm gonna go make my OWN archives, with BLACKJACK and HOOKERS. In fact, forget the archives!
  9:55am Janet H:

Ken, my photoshop is opening up....
  9:56am David:

Oh gawd I'm runnin
  9:56am Ken:

Janet - You can get FMU on most celphones - iPhones, Treos, but not Blackberries. Works really well on the iPhone. Get the free public radio app.
  9:57am doug from dc:

FMU comes in great using WunderRadio on the iPhone.
  9:58am sloane:

Ok. So next year, I'll just use the money I could donate to WFMU and use it to upgrade to high-speed internet. Thanks for helping me get my priorities straight.
  9:58am Ken:

Yay Janet!!! Are you Achmedinajadding me i hope i hope!!
  10:01am Ken:

  10:20am Listener:

Leave me out of your prayers, k? Don't strain yourselves.
  10:22am My mom:

We should have a constitutional amendment saying people can't crowd the laundry room when I need it.
  10:22am wepledge.com:

urgh! "pray, pray", uhgn! "pray, strain, pray" grunt!
  10:23am Janet H:

(closed photoshop) Ken, check your fb wall...
  10:27am annie:

i was sending a friend some links to jimmy dale gilmore, et al. that picture for baby animal is pretty gruesome yet humourous in a weird way.
  10:28am Ken:

Wow Janet, thank you!!! I've always wanted to be an Orb-Adorned Holocaust-Denying Despot! You've made my dreams come true!
  10:32am Janet H:

Ken, I'm glad I can make your dreams come true!
  10:36am Carmichael:

Jesus H. F@*^%g Christ!!!! Good morning, finally!!!!
  10:36am Ken:

Janet, any chance you can email me a copy of it that is 300 pixels wide?
  10:37am annie:

morning carm, now breathe and take a slug of coffee!
  10:38am Ken:

And by email, i mean ken at wfmu dot org
  10:40am Carmichael:

Hay Zeus Alou. I've been trying since last Friday to get back to this music and you wonderful happening people. Furloughs, layoffs, fiscal year end, and then a virus that crashed my computer. The IT turtles couldn't get to it because they were in the middle of picking their noses.

I need some tea. Be right back. Sorry I yelled.
  10:41am -max-:

Damn "A" train...went local and then dumped us off at 96th Street. Crosstown bus to the "3" train, and I'm finally here. Did someone leave some coffee on the stove? My cup is empty...

c(___)
  10:41am Laurie:

Hi Ken!
  10:42am annie:

carm totally understandable. cold turkey is not fun
  10:43am Laurie:

Diego Luna. That name will never leave my brain, after seeing WIll Ferrell's "You're Welcome America."
  10:45am forked tongue:

Ken, aren't you going to do a little set of Appalachian folk music and Argentinian tango in honor of Governor Mark Sanford?
  10:45am Cecile:

Oh, Laurie, that was hilarious.
  10:45am Mac:

Anybody get their FMU Donations swag mailings yet?
  10:46am BSI:

AIEEE! We gets our Fabio back!
Maybe there IS a gawd??!!??!
  10:46am Cecile:

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!
I will miss Diane so much, the metal!, but FABIO!
  10:47am Cecile:

Mac, I talked to Joe McG about it.
Big pledges and mouse pledges will be mailed out in late July.
  10:48am thelma:

I was just about to ask the same question about marathon premiums. I usually have a new WFMU t-shirt by now.
  10:48am Laurie:

Good to know, Cecile! Thank you.
  10:48am Swag:

We require mucho bigass prep. Thank you.
  10:49am c:

sanford was actually in iran instigating rebellion
  10:49am Carmichael:

OK, Dokaka. Now I'm ecstatic .....
  10:50am BSI:

good news on the premiums.
I was beginning to wonder if my neighbors had made off with a tasty package from FMU.... which still might happen, but there's hope.
...hungry for buddha machine...
  10:52am fishmonkeystew:

Vikki on Wednesdays and Fabio on Thurs?!?! There IS a god and it's name is WFMU!!! I gonna dance a little jig.
  10:54am Janet H:

sabotage!!
  10:54am Cecile:

I did get a premium indirectly - I won the Subway Art book, and VIlly Yams put his Irish hiphop premium in there!
  10:56am doug from dc:

I hope Diane will be doing some fill-ins. I'll really miss her show. But it is great to have Fabio back, and in the daytime.
  10:56am Swag Work Process:

Tom S. was soliciting engineering help for his premium last night on the air -- matching levels, inserting trackage, etc. Gotta finish it before you can burn copies!
  10:58am Cecile:

I will have to check the bulletins from my metal online stores more carefully - Diane was kind of great for getting good metal new releases on her show.
  10:58am Behind the Scenes Drama:

You'd never believe it.

Then again, you would.
  10:59am Mark L:

I'm definitely getting some Odd Nosdam. Awesome!
  11:01am Janet H:

Sabotage!!!
  11:01am Laurie:

Is that Julio, dancing in a nightclub??
  11:03am Cecile:

Janet, that is awesome. That must have been Ken in Barca.
  11:03am listener mark:

good morning ken
good morning all
  11:05am Laurie:

I love Bobby Conn.
  11:06am jan:

Ahhh, this show is excellent!
  11:06am Janet H:

Cecile, it must be and now we just need "Sabotage!"...
  11:07am Carmichael:

I've never heard this before. I really like it. Trying to place the guitar lick.
  11:08am annie:

ken, i'm glad to see you've joined the "sexy white jacket" club for men. and manly men, too!
  11:09am Don Johnson:

Annie, we reviewed his request and decided to let him in the club.
  11:10am Tom Wolfe:

One abstention.
  11:12am -max-:

Ken is our fearless leader! Great job, Janet!

> s s s
c(____) Ah, hot java!!
  11:13am Ahmedinejhad in the Disco:

I have khocaine. I have Mercedes. Come viss me...we make party at my condominimum.
  11:14am Fashion Police:

Jacket's Beige, not White. Don't contradict me or I'll go all Mario Lavandeira on your asses.
  11:15am Janet H:

Max, I had to make ken's dreams come true!
11:16am Parq in his white jacket:

You know the difference between you and me? I make this look schlumphy.
  11:17am Wrinkles:

We'll do that to you...
  11:18am Cecile:

well, Parq, c/'mon. White windbreaker doesn't have the same effect.

;D
  11:18am Mark L:

I've seen I Ludicrous, supporting The Fall. He was great.
  11:19am Vicki:

my god, it's no different when you're the headlining band
  11:20am -max-:

>>feels sudden compulsion to draw closer towards the platform edge<<
  11:21am bela:

that song was hilarious
  11:24am BSI:

so how badly will Spain decimate the US today? eh?
  11:24am spaneil:

i hope an elementary teacher is listening to this and someone from social services sees this picture of Andy's new baby.
  11:25am Janet H:

that picture is hilarious!
  11:26am Cecile:

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY
Jeffrey I hear you!
  11:26am Carmichael:

BSI, you ready for a 2-1 US victory?
  11:27am ?:

Jeffrey I hear you... what is that about... could this be your nod to the upcoming stonewall celebration? It's a good song
  11:27am Spain:

Coma una, Teddy Roosevelt!
  11:29am Parq:

The Girls were opening for Human Sexual Response in the Rat in the summer of '79. They had equipment trouble and got really frustrated. The guitarist threw a chair at me. Knocked the drink clean out of my hand. I'm fairly sure I was a random target.
  11:29am Tub Baby:

I like his head. I have one of those on my other end, oddly enough, but mommy slaps my hand when I stroke it.
  11:29am BSI:

Carmichael: Honestly I'd be shocked into a coma. The match v.Egypt stank of some bizarre law-of-averages phenomenon. Well played, absolutely. But deals with the devil tend to have a predictable plot-arc.
  11:32am sherri:

parq, that's fantastic!!!!!
  11:33am evan:

jeffrey: that's one sad song-- you should see the 7" jacket--about his kid brother apparently
  11:33am Parq:

The thing that bugged me is, the house wouldn't replace my drink.
  11:33am Janet H:

sabotage!
  11:37am BSI:

FASCISTS!
  11:38am Cecile:

I'll say it. Sound Exchange are thugs.
  11:38am Carmichael:

I say we burn the fuckers' houses down.
  11:38am PMD:

Wow, you should write a book Ken. How I help to screw the BIG man.
  11:39am Parq:

Sounds remarkably like all those cops who ruthlessly enforce the no-photos-in-the-subway law, which happens to have never actually been enacted.
  11:39am Lizardner Dave:

I blame AIG. Oh wait, wrong week.
  11:40am jk:

what's the big deal with writing down what you play? why is that so hard?tell kenny g to just sort his itunes for last played and print that out
  11:40am Lizardner Dave:

Oh yeah, and I bet Sound Exchange are a bunch of FUCKING COLUMN VIOLATORRRRRRRRRRRS!

OK, that joke is dead now.
  11:40am Seamus:

My beagle seems quite confused by this song.
  11:41am 30 sex:

That's why amazon.com have 30 second samples from all tracks on all CDs, because of that threshhold. Does the RIAA think they didn't check first? Or that they wouldn't have been stopped years ago if they had interpreted the policy inaccurately?

Many lawyers are just wannbe mafiosi who spent a lot of time memorizing stuff from books instead of enforcing on the street, because they are really just pussyboys. They're full of hot ripe fart air a lot of the time, so just laugh at their asses.
  11:43am Gregory:

Ken, what is the objection to writing down songs? My problem with the usual royalty system is that it gives huge amounts of money to popular artists and virtually nothing to the kinds of people played on WFMU. If your djs' writing down song tracks means that independent artists will actually get money, isn't that a good thing?
  11:44am Laurie:

I enjoyed your SoundExchange story and would not object to hearing more stories of that nature.
  11:44am Think About It:

The Dj's volunteer. They don't always want to do more extra work they don't feel like for nothing.
  11:44am Parq:

Yeah. Dang that Kenny G, I want the guy who recorded "Fwoop" and "Meeoop" to get his money.
  11:44am Cecile:

Because, I believe, that that money won't get to indie artists.
Remember Sound Exchange's list of artists they couldn't find? I think Kraftwerk were on there!
  11:45am dc pat:

and what about they guy that did all the fart noises?? DOWN WITH WFMU!!
  11:45am LIzardner Dave:

Gregory, I think the point is that the RIAA doesn't ever actually pay off any small artists and that this is just an exercise for them to line their own pockets.
  11:46am Cecile:

what lizardner dave said.
  11:49am Seamus:

Can we receive copies of the RIAA audit for their payments to the bands played on FMU ?
  11:49am Ken:

I think by their own admission, Soundexchange has paid 19,000 artists and has not paid 35,000 other artists who they "can't find." The artists they can't find include peoiple like Ted Nugent, Kraftwerk, Lene Lovich, etc. Super obscure artists like that.
  11:50am Cecile:

That's right, the Nuge was on there!
  11:50am RIAA Pussy Lawyers:

Huh? We get to be peremptory. Not anyone else. You're just not getting it.
  11:51am Seamus:

The Nuge needs onlt nature's bounty!
  11:51am SoundExchange:

Our Secret Name: Protection Money Exchange
  11:52am Carmichael:

What's the problem with simply ignoring them? What will they do, file a lawsuit? A big, bad lawsuit? Oooooohhhh, not a lawsuit!!?!?!??
  11:53am Cecile:

they made some woman pay $12 million for some songs she downloaded.
  11:53am The Nuge:

They can't find me because I'm hiding out from ATF. Yaaahhghhh!
  11:53am FMU Lawyer:

Hey Carm: Because *I* don't volunteer, mwahahahahahahaha!!!!
  11:54am Carmichael:

I have a feeling that if Terrible Ted knew he was owed some coin, he'd take the next tank over to RIAA Allied Command for some whoop ass.
  11:55am Cecile:

yeah, he could use it to pay child suppor he deadbeated on in Michigan
  11:56am Sniffling woman:

Sound Exchange ate my baby for lunch. Then burped in my face.
  11:56am Cecile:

support
  11:56am Vicki:

another problem is a lot of artists don't register with these collection agencies, or they don't go into the agencies websites to go and make claims when the money hasn't made it to them. However you CAN do this, and I do that every few months - go and GET the money from them. I can say that if you do register with them and do this you DO get paid, I get a lot of royalties from non-US radio/public play. However that is from national/commercial stations but wfmu doesn't fall into that category. I would never expect royalties, and expect to be able to sign a form on these collection agencies sites to say I want to exempt payment from non-commercial entities - since the structure is very different. I might add that one only needs to be played on the BBC 6-7 times to make more than one might expect from releasing an album on a small label.
  11:56am Mac:

Anybody else remember when Disney sued some underground cartoonists for character infringement. It was the Air Pirates comix. Disney certainly a lot of money then!
  11:57am Mac:

Insert "Made" in there.
  11:57am spaniel:

you're a nazi sap ken.
  11:58am BSI:

Hooray! Finally! A thin veneer of gladness!
  11:58am Sound Exchange:

The government keeps tons of bucks on bottle and can deposits for cans and bottles not redeemed. We want in on that scam action.
  11:59am Janet H:
