  9:16am em:

The only saving grace to Friday mornings in an empty office is that I can play Doug's lovely show at my desk without headphones. Loving the big band set -- thanks!
  9:26am Freddy:

Morning Doug, morning Annie and Em what a great day to day
  9:26am seymour hersh:

  9:36am seymour hersh:

you are welcome. my next investigation will be into the conection between the pakistan isi and utube videos of babies rollerskating, just to see if anyone is even paying attention.
  9:40am Freddy:

I must have been looking the other way. What has happened to the Listener Hour?
  9:57am still b/p:

I thought that Blackstones cut sounded remarkably ahead of its musical time if it was from 1960. Looking for more info, I see the music in that compilation is from 66-69... si? ...no?
  9:58am Drummer Some:

Billy Lee Riley ...
one of the remaining original Sun Records artists, Is in VERY bad need of help! Billy has had his share of health problems, and is now battling Stage FOUR bone cancer. Although musicares is helping with house payment, car and such, He and Joyce are totally out of money and can barely afford to eat. This is a CALL FOR HELP to all musicians and fans. Please remember, twenty bucks from all of us would make a HUGE difference in Billy's life! What if this was you? Let's all get together and send something today to Billy and Joyce and show them that he means alot to us. If you have a website, a facebook or myspace, please post this need for help on it! We can't save the world, but it will mean alot in Billy Lee's life!

  10:13am Bad Ronald:

  10:14am Devin:

Yall's! Dave!
  10:15am annie:

FMU at Lincoln Center twice in one summer!
  10:16am north guinea hills:

  10:17am Bad Ronald:

I find McDonalds distasteful.

  10:26am annie:

how soon we forget
  10:28am Devin:

I've already forgotten what we were supposed to be forgetting. :(
  10:33am annie:

speaking of obscenity, interesting the two very different types: the MJ jokes and war. and referring to the latter; parq, i saw a trailer for "the hurt locker".. pretty intense
  10:34am C:

was mcnamara ever in the military? i think these civilian guys like cheney are trying to compensate for insecurities they feel about never having the guts to join.
  10:35am Spd_lee:

Doug-E,
You're making it VERY hard to leave for work !

PEACE
THANKS FOR THE TOONCES
  10:37am ?:

i believe the term is "chicken hawk"
  10:37am annie:

doug this has to be on the top ten of the best sets i've ever heard.
  10:40am ?:

This Freddy is great. Was that Wayne S. on sax? Joe H.?
  10:41am annie:

i dig the ivory tickling very much
  10:41am Drummer Some:

Hey Question Mark (or is it Marc?),
You nailed it: Wayne Shorter.
  10:42am Freddy:

I find it distasteful that since 1993 everyone thought that Michael was a pervert, but when he suddenly dies every single person wants to say that he was a hero, a rolemodle. This world is filled with nothing but hypocrites.
  10:43am Paul Sherratt:

annie,
This has to be one the top ten of the best sets i've ever heard.
  10:45am annie:

paul, seamless and poignant
  10:45am Freddy:

PS, the Hurt Locker does look intense
  10:47am c:

not "everyone" thought he was a pervert, just a troubled man-child who hung out with kids with no other intention than to reclaim a lost childhood
  10:50am Freddy:

Go to fucking Disneyland then
  10:54am c:

go to its-true-because-freddy-says-it-is-so world
  10:55am Paul Sherratt:

Freddy,
Is that an annexe to the main attraction ?
  10:56am annie:

maddy.... ahh mee.
  10:57am north guinea hills:

wait, we can do that to disneyland now? shite, i must get my ticket to LA!

props for playing maddy...
  10:57am spaniel:

Doug, great show as always. I love your sets and playlists. You do a great job "curating" if that's the right word. I can't stop listening to your show from June 19th. Especially like the Greek set, calypso, xylephone and all the people making animal sound songs. So much good stuff! enjoy your vacation!
  10:59am Harvey:

Doug playing folksongs is the best part of my week
  11:00am Chris:

Nice, I've only heard Anne Briggs' version of The Snows They Melt The Soonest before.
  11:01am Paul Sherratt:

Note to the DJ :

Gaughan - pronounced Gocken.
  11:01am c:

i was just about to head out but having trouble leaving this music - nice set
  11:01am ?:

just happened to be listening to this folk music while surfing a website that had wordless groove-heavy background music; hearing the two together makes me think it's time for the Olde English Songs Remix Project . . .
  11:02am Cush:

I think all Freddy needs a nice fat blunt to smoke. relax, and let some of that negativity and anger go. Where you touched as a kid Freddy
  11:03am re: guts:

Gutless or just chess players? A power thing, seeing themselves 'above the ranks'. Know-it-alls
  11:04am Drummer Some:

THANKS PAUL!!
I actually pronounced it that way a number of months ago and was corrected by a (dear) listener who said it should sound like "Gone". Thanks for having my back!
  11:12am Carmichael:

Good morning, Doug & everyone.
  11:13am annie:

interesting, doug: when we were kids, we loved listening to the clancy brothers and other such irish music. the vilified group were the tinkers, traveling and struggling for a living. and recall the movie "la strada"?
  11:15am Carmichael:

We called them "the Gypsies". My Da threatened to sell me to them when I acted up.
  11:15am Paul Sherratt:

Doug,

Well if I ever run in to Mr Gaughan again, I'll get the guaranteed version from the horse's mouth.
And anyway ' Dick Gone' sounds kind of sad ..
  11:16am annie:

latcho drom!!!
  11:20am duke:

Cool fictional show about the Travelers in the US - totally unreal, but a good show - The Riches http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Riches
  11:26am Carmicahel:

Whoa Doug, you're pulling out the classic oldies. Is Jerry Yester next??
  11:27am annie:

incredible.. doug, you are topping yourself this week..
  11:30am Drummer Some:

Carmichael,
I almost brought the Yester'Henski LP instead!
  11:31am Carmichael:

Your 1st instinct is always the best .....
  11:32am Paul Sherratt:

annie,
I've gone in to that 'Mama Cass watching Joplin' mode again ..

(Note to DJ. Don't worry I'll be prudent at supper time)
  11:32am annie:

doug, traveling with radio!! heaven on earth!
  11:37am annie:

  11:40am dc pat:

ah, just got here from watching le Tour. what a race. You're right on with the McNamara prediction Drummer Some...
  11:48am Robert McNamara:

How 'bout a couple of songs for me...
one for the early days:
"Too Late to Turn Back Now"
-- and one for the later years:
"Don't Let A Few Million War Dead Catch You Crying"
  11:50am Danimal:

Doug you familiar with Sandy Nelson's Birth of the Beat, that twitchy tune sounded like a direct ripoff.
  11:54am Drummer Some:

Danimal,
Is that Sandy Nelson tune pre-1957?
  11:56am Carmichael:

Great show, Doug! Enjoy your weekend!
  11:57am Drummer Some:

Hey dc pat,
We believe ol' Lance is dirtier than dirt.
  12:00pm dc pat:

yer wrong DS, he's pure and strong...you'll see..
  12:04pm Danimal:

I started playing drums to it in 62 so i would say its from around that time
  1:57pm Jerson:
