Favoriting July 21, 2009: Pylon/Randy Bewley tribute
Randy Bewley, guitarist for the justifiably legendary Georgia band Pylon, died of a heart attack in late February of this year. Tonight, Pylon's bass player (and co-founder of the group with Randy) Michael Lachowski calls in to fill us in on the special "Randy's Birthday" celebration coming up this Saturday in Athens GA celebrating Randy's life. The show benefits Nuçi’s Space, a non-profit health and music resource center. Michael also tell us about some upcoming releases that will include contributions from Randy, as well as other Pylon-related news and notes. Check the links below for more info, and if you're near Athens this Saturday, head over to the 40 Watt Club for Randy's Birthday.

  12:36am
coalhard:

i would like to put a recipe on here--THIS SHOW COOKS--take one boneless tomato cut in wedges insert into mouth--not ear canal--i was drunk--save ear canal can be used for listening
  12:37am
efd:

  12:38am

  12:40am
Danne D:

Good evening Funkateers!
  12:44am
?:

fleetwood mach yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12:45am
Danne D:

:) cool

Evan's one of those great DJs who can integrate the familiar in such a way that it all comes out great as part of a set :)
  12:46am
efd:

Hey, Danne! Seems like you're a little early tonight, or maybe it's just the pacing of tonight's show that's throwing me off.

John, I'll give you (and everyone else) a full report next week!
  12:49am
Danne D:

less bs'ing by me after the coffee shop closed so I'm early :D happily a likely loss in scrabble was averted by the closing bell.

So Evan, there's just no market for Cole Hamels in our league, eh? Not that I really want to let him go mind you but I'm running seriously afoul of the league's restrictive innings limit!
  12:50am
anemone:

efd, so nice of you to play thomas function. now if you could play some sir lord von raven...
  12:56am
john:

Danne....need a first baseman?
  12:56am
efd:

ooh, I'd forgotten about that sir lord raven cd since it's not in the new bin anymore... out of sight, out of mind! thanks for the reminder!
  12:57am
coalhard:

this song goes to the core slaw of our existance
  12:57am
Danne D:

got a surplus there John :)
Votto (1B only), Branyan (1B/3B), and Cantu (1B/3B). You have much the same problem I see :)
  1:02am
efd:

(left out the "von" in "sir lord von raven")
  1:04am
john:

yeah, with Lee, Konerko, Papi, and Reynolds, it's a bit of a logjam. Ought to be a high class problem! Oddly, it's not. I do have one other idea, though.
  1:06am
anemone:

thanks efd for running to the library to fetch the sir lord von raven cd. i looked for the lp at my local record shop to no avail. i ordered it online several weeks ago and i think they finally shipped it. i've only listened to a few songs here and there through wfmu and can't wait to hear the full album.
  1:07am
Joshua K:

I didn't realize Mr Dave Hill was a musician
  1:10am
Laurie:

Mr. Dave Hill, my Sire, is also in the extremely rocking band Valley Lodge.
  1:13am
randy in NC:

He was on the Phillies wasn't he?
  1:15am
efd:

Von Hayes, yes; Dave Hill, no. At least not as far as I know.
  1:17am
randy in NC:

Von Hayes, yes that's who I meant...
  1:19am
john:

EFD is, as ever, right. Dave Hill made two ineffective relief appearances for the 1957 Kansas City A's, giving up 7 earned runs in just two and a third innings. A career in music seemed much less uncertain. Baseballreference.com rawks.
  1:26am
Laurie:

Yeah, let me go wiki that.
  1:28am
Danne D:

Nobody tell Evan that I'm predicting a Phillies-Angels World Series...oops!
  1:30am
Danne D:

Is this OUR legendary Amanda or another legendary Amanda? :)
  1:33am
efd:

that would be another legendary Amanda.
  1:34am
Danne D:

well our legendary Amanda is still my favorite Amanda :)
  1:36am
Sybil:

I just cleaned out all my closets, (why I didn't comment till now), and now I can't find anything.

Cleaning is overrated.

Great show (as always), EFD!
  1:36am
Sybil:

I love this song, love its title, love every single thing about it.
  1:37am
efd:

hi Sybil! well said (re the song *and* cleaning)
  1:42am
Sybil:

On the other hand, I found a bunch of really cool 1940s-50s style clothes I had forgotten I had. So there's that.

Now if I could only find the shoe polish.
  1:43am
Sybil:

Well, I know where I'm going on Thursday!
  1:48am
efd:

that's the one downside to my advance ticket purchase for Thursday's Maxwell's show - I wasn't aware of the Ted Leo show at the time.
  1:50am
Danne D:

*sigh* Evan's show is turning into the weekly "Ted Leo Show Danne can't attend" report :( I mean he even played the town I live in - but sadly I didn't get hip to that fact in time
  1:59am
Danne D:

night efd!
night funk fans!
  2:07am
efd:

goodnight and thanks, everyone! see you next week.
