There's a moundsville, WV.
  10:02am Drummer Some:

Texas Scott is correctemundo: Saint Louis is Mound City.

And Cecile has dirty glasses and a dirty mind...
  10:03am Cecile:

Yes to both, Doug.
  10:04am Cecile:

And Great Plains from Ohio wrote a song called Serpent Mound which I think was about Columbus.
  10:09am north guinea hills:

Holy blunderbusses! I have that Estampas album and I didn't even recognize the music. I'm slipping....

  11:10am raissa:

it's great you are doing the show in memoriam of john storm roberts. i worked for him late 80s and part of 90's up here in the hudson valley. he introduced me to so much terrific music man, tabu ley of course and celia, barretto, colon, pacheco, ali farka toure, trio matamoros, moondog just to mention a couple...great show doug!
  11:10am Moshik:

Doug, great show - did you know that John Storm Roberts has died?

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/10/arts/music/10roberts.html?ref=books
  11:11am moshik:

silly me, didn't see the previous posts...
  11:11am Drummer Some:

@jgiles
Glad you're digging the newsletter.

For all you of the listener-people clan, take a moment (or two hours) and check out my Mining the Audio Motherlode posts on the FMU blog, then vote for your Favorite Downloads of the year. (You can email them to me or add them as a comment to the blog.) I will compile your selections and make a READERS' CHOICE list for 2009. Here is the link to see all of my MAM posts in one long, continuous string:

Get cracking!
  11:14am stingy d:

thats gonna be tough mr doug. you mined up a lot of rare gems
  11:15am Carmichael:

Is there an "all of the above" option?
  11:16am Drummer Some:

Though I never met him, John Storm Roberts was a massive influence on me and this program. His open-minded spirit and good taste (and, of course, amazing releases on Original) are evident in everything I do musically.
  11:24am Cecile:

I would say Your Exotic Prince has to be up there. Unless that was last year...
  11:24am Parq:

Love this quote from the Roberts obit:

“I don’t care how esoteric it is, but it’s got to be terrific,” he said. “Not this ‘you-can’t-hear-it-and-it’s-terribly-performed-but-it’s-really-very-interesting-because-it’s-the-only-winkle-gathering-song-to-come-out-of-southeastern-Sussex’ attitude.”

The Good Grey included a hyper-link for "winkle gathering". The wonder of it all.
  11:24am Drummer Some:

Last year, but who's counting?
  11:30am Brian Sanders:

Parq, I'm sure that the Copper Family have had something to sing about winkle gathering in their day! Though technically I think they are from south-west Sussex. Ha
  11:31am El Thatchmo:

Now you're speaking my language, Doug. I am the brotherman, not the otherman.
  11:33am El Thatchmo:

So Glad I Got Good Religion!
  11:33am Drummer Some:

@El Thatch
That would make you another brother of the other mother, man.
  11:42am El Thatchmo:

How Now Brown Cow!
  11:43am Julia Arredondo:

New listener here. Whatever you're doing right now is kicking ass.
Thanks for making my morning.
  11:43am Cecile:

where do I start with Numero Group reissues?
  11:43am Ted from Baltimore:

I changed my mind regarding my all-time fave W. African track 3 times during the last set.
And if that gospel set had gone on one more track, I was going to get the holy ghost right here in my work cube.
  11:49am Drummer Some:

@Julia
Welcome aboard. Grab a bucket and start bailing!

@Cecile
Any of the Eccentric Soul series. Swing a cat and grab the disc you hit.

@Ted from B
Well I had two other cuts ready to go but pulled 'em to make room for this last set. So you're off the hook.
  11:49am Terri:

Cecile, I would start with Gone: The Promises of Yesterday, but yeah that's definitely a tough one.
  11:50am Cecile:

Thanks, all!

I think that song was actually about a dog and some hens.
