Debo Band - Ethiopian sounds via Boston MA.

Pharaoh's Daughter at WFMU - wearing special hats for the occasion.

A live music double-header: First, Boston's ebullient Debo Band gives classic Ethiopian and Ethio-inspired grooves a unique brass band twist. Debo Band had the privilege of performing at the 8th annual Ethiopian Music Festival in Addis Ababa in 2009, and will return to East Africa for the annual Sauti Za Busara Festival in Zanzibar in February 2010.

The Debo Band band is raising funds to bring a number of Ethiopian artists it collaborated with in Addis to Sauti Za Busara as well - contact the band for information on how you can help out via its website, http://www.deboband.com.

Then, Basya Schechter and Pharaoh's Daughter sublimely conjure Judeo-Arab-Mediterranean musical concoctions, featuring several songs from its absolutely compelling 2007 cd Haran (Oyhoo Records).

Pharaoh's Daughter's FMU session is a tune-up for a December 16 gig at the Knitting Factory Brooklyn - part of the annual Hannukah-sync'ed multi-venue Sephardic Musical Festival. Also on the bill at the Knit: De Leon and festival organizer Erez Safar's new rock-tinged project, Levi Mordechai. For the full festival lineup see http://www.sephardicmusicfestival.com/.

Very special thanks to our illustrious engineers Glenn Luttman and Bil Bowen and assistant Tony Bonczkowski. And to Greg Squared of Ansambl Mastika for the hook-up with Debo Band, and WFMU volunteer and documentarian Phil Catalano for the hook-up with Pharaoh's Daughter!
