Favoriting The Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon: Playlist from January 7, 2010 Favoriting

Clay Pigeon's avatar View Clay Pigeon's profile Favoriting

Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Margie Singleton  So Far No Good   Favoriting Harper Valley PTA  Pickwick  68ish?  LP  She did NOT write Ode To Billy Joe as I say on the show. She did a version of it. At any rate, Margie is always a welcome addition to any Dusty Show, and I mean that. Embarrassed, though, that I spouted off inaccuracies about Ode.

Lobo  Don't Expect Me To Be Your Friend   Favoriting Of A Simple Man  Big Tree  1972  LP  This is interesting stuff from WAPEDIA: "Born in Tallahassee, Florida, Lobo was raised by his mother in Winter Haven, Florida with his six siblings. He began his musical career in 1961 as a member of a local band, The Rumours. The band included Gram Parsons and Jim Stafford, as well as drummer Jon Corneal, who later joined Parsons' International Submarine Band. In 1964, while attending the University of South Florida, Lavoie joined a band called the Sugar Beats and met producer Phil Gernhard. He recorded a regional hit for the band, a cover of Johnny Rivers' song, "What Am I Doing Here". During the 1960s, Lavoie performed with many other bands, including US Male, The Uglies, and Me and the Other Guys."

Starting Over for Kevin
Well, thank you so much for listening to this show, whoever you are. This week I went "live" at the last second, after several jettisoned attempts to interview people (too cold out, insecurity on my part, overall poor facial appearance due to winter paleness, sagging, chappedness and collagenic collapse). I walked all over Times Square, in front of Macy's, Hudson to East River. A death march that yielded nothing but lost shoe rubber and a bruised ego. It was nice to see Manhattan though, as usual. I do dig it so. I also tried some digital stuff as I had been trying to do in previous weeks, but came up with nothing earth shattering. I even wrote a lengthy story, a sci-fi deal, but I just couldn't get behind it in the end. Too weak. It would have been indulgent.

It's been a long time since I've done a straight ahead Dusty, I know. Winter is hard. I also yanked last week's show from the archives at it was excessively down and dark. Things are looking up though. We have turned the corner and now rocket in 2010 in a state of good cheer.

I need to go now. it's 2:36 am 1/11/10 and I want to go play some guitar before my wife and I crash. Love you all! Write me. dusty@wfmu.org
