Live performance and chat by Quartet San Francisco (L to R: Michelle Djokic, cello; Alisa Rose, violin; Irene Trudel; Keith Lawrence, viola; Jeremy Cohen, violin and arrangements)
Continuing their flirtation with jazz, Quartet San Francisco has now arranged its own quirky whirl to the music of Dave Brubeck. It's classical crossover that swings like the Brubeck originals. Quartet San Francisco is in town for a couple of NYC shows and dropped by WFMU to record a live radio set.

Wondering if Myrmyr made your year end favorites. Been logging a lot of time with The Amber Sea.

Interesting coincidence - I just started "Indivisible by Four" an inside look at the Guarneri Quartet. There is not a lot of places to hide musical mishaps in a quartet so there is tension all around but if it works it rewarding beyond most other classical configurations.

Sorry to be a critic, but I've just been listening to the SF Quartet plays Brubeck. At 1:09 in the programme the list shows "It's a raggy waltz" whereas the quartet at that time are actually playing "Unsquare Dance" - Otherwise great interpretations.
