Georgy Sviridov  Time, Forward   Favoriting Метель/Время, вперёд!  Melodiya  1980  LP  score to '65 film (Time, Forward!) that describes one day in the construction of the glorious Soviet city of Magnitogorsk. Theme was also used by Vremya news program on USSR Central TV.  0:00:00 (Pop-up)
Dick Higgins  Symphony No. 163, A Winter Solstice Symphony for Geoff Hendricks (Scherzo Finale)   Favoriting The Thousand Symphonies  Alga Marghen  2010    first edition ever issued of founding Fluxus member Dick Higgins' music... Here's the idea behind the symphony: in the Spring of 1968 Geoffrey Hendricks and Robert Watts told Higgins of a project at Douglass College to organize a show around guns. As police violence was at a premium in '68, Dick Higgins wanted police in the USA to compose symphonies rather than bust kids fer drugs, etc. So he proposed that music paper be machine gunned and symphonies derived from the result. Hendricks got a police captain to shoot the paper w/ a 9mm MP40 Schmeisser submachine gun. A volunteer orchestra, conducted by Philip Corner then performed nine of the resulting symphonies at Douglass College on December 9th.  0:03:53 (Pop-up)

Lorne Greene sure had a grim philosophical statement there. None of that silly free will stuff for Lorne! Abrupt ending though. Not even any details on how or why the desperadoes took them all down.

And then that Advisory Circle record was kinda like a cross between Delia Derbyshire and that silly old witchcraft record that the FMU DJs were all obsessed with for a while.
  4:36am
D. Blumin:

Anonymous, it was destiny - the desperadoes were bound to do it, by Jove!
Hear ya on the Advisory!

Happy year of the Tiger, everyone!

Tune in next week for a session from Bird Show!
