  Fri. 2/19/10 9:13am mb:

This is a real treat starting with the regaee. Ride on natty!
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:22am mike cooper:

Now thats what I call crackle - good ol' stylee....:-)))
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:23am Mark Williams:

this Killowats track - in Jamaica it was released as the Three Tops; funny things would happen when producers released them in the UK thereafter, including changing the artist's accreditation. What were you playing this off of, btw?
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:26am Paul Sherratt:

I'm just wondering if any of these recordings came via Bergen, Norway.

Many have in the past !
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:28am fishmonkeystew:

That Marley tune is one of my absolute favorites. Thanks Doug and good morning world!
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:33am Hugo:

My pleasure, entirely. Since then, the archives have grown further ...
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:35am Bob:

On the topic of modern African-American bands doing old-time southern rural music, the Carolina Chocolate Drops are pretty interesting. YouTube has a few things.
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:37am Cecile:

Good morning, all!
The sun is out and my body is producing Vitamin D again! Hurray!
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:38am fishmonkeystew:

I agree with Bob. Carolina Chocolate Drops are pretty awesome.
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:38am chris:

Doug, thank you so much for your links to music blogs. I have had a cold and been taking work breaks and downloading much amazing music. You rock!
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:47am Cecile:

I'm jigging right now.
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:47am Drummer Some:

Morning all y'all!

Providing the links is a great pleasure. Could someone lone about six more hours in the day?
  Fri. 2/19/10 9:58am PMD:

Mornin'! I'm trying to avoid getting premiums during the marathon, but I may just have to get yours. Darn you.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:00am Cecile:

YES. Clifford brown makes everything better.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:01am dale:

morning mr. dj et al. @cecil: i just started taking vitamin d - i understand it may help combat the epstein barr viruses that we all may have lurking in our bodies. i've been wiped out lately, hopefully it helps.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:02am Paul Sherratt:

Those Carolina Chocolate Drops are in session tonight/this evening in the World On 3 programme from BBC Radio 3 is streamed and then archived for one week. I'm not sure the archive works outside the UK - Hugo will know..

I went to see the trio a couple of weeks back. It was a cold night and venue but despite their sterling efforts I'm afraid I struggled to warm to the performance. Anyone else seen them I wonder ?
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:02am Cecile:

I have been taking the D, and I love me some good old milk, but it hasn't been enough. I have to get a medical gro-light, but keep forgetting to call my HMO.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:02am chris:

@Doug: yeah exactly. I feel like I am close to paying some of the servers so it might go faster... By the way, I have turned on a few of my musician friends to the Dave Pike Set and blew their minds thanks to you!
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:05am dale:

i have to start laying off the cocktails, too. that's a hard one.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:06am Hugo:

Paul, I will check on that. The Real Audio files may work, if they are still in use.

Anyway, off to see the Edgar Broughton Band tomorrow. Long-time favourites and I mean long-time (early 70s the first time around).
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:17am Cecile:

dale, I've been cutting back on booze and caffeine. It's tough but kind of helps.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:19am Cecile:

Hey, Doug, weren't you going to save that for Bryce? ;D
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:20am dc pat:

funny, my brother gave up booze for Lent (whatever that is) and I decided to join him. Cutting out the booze isn't a problem for me but I am NOT going through caffeine withdrawal any time soon...
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:21am Drummer Some:

Yes I was, but then Bryce screwed things up by arriving less late than he predicted on the phone! I love Bryce.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:23am PKNY:

Thanks for playing some Pharoah, so necessary!
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:23am Cecile:

I'm not cutting out, just cutting back. And yeah, a nurse told me I'd never get Parkinson's if I drank coffee, so I will keep on keepin' on.

Aw, LOL, Doug! Never a dull moment in a Brycian world.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:27am dc pat:

I find it good practice to cleanse the body occasionally and also good to test your will.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:46am stingy d:

this set goes rigth along with the new frank 151 book.... i think...
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:56am dc pat:

this is the set I was looking for, thanks DrummerSome.
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:57am Drummer Some:

@Mark Williams
Regarding the Kilowatts "Cool Operator," check this out:
  Fri. 2/19/10 10:57am Parq:

Doug, I know you're an occasional visitor to the Crud Crud blog. If you check them out now, you will find a couple of really good Morrocan tracks, with commentary that makes for good reading.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:02am Drummer Some:

Hey thanks for that tip. Looks like a GREAT page.

***Some really unfathomable stuff coming up in this set, everybody!
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:09am Stuart Troutman:

oh good, Fridays are the correct days for 'unfathomable' stuff.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:12am dale:

i highly praise my new toy, a web radio. search out the african and middle eastern stations by country and you'll find gold. a lot of americanized crap too, but lots of good stuff
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:13am Drummer Some:

Our new tagline:

WFMU: Radio Unfathomable!
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:17am annie:

did i miss the tiger woods interview?
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:20am Drummer Some:

I will be holding a press conference to apologize for miss Tiger Wood's press conference to apologize.

I know this is a strange request, coming from a radio guy, but... no media will be admitted!
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:20am Cecile:

I dunno. You did miss Minnesota's governor suggesting that we all pull an Elin Woods on Big Goverment.

I'm so embarrassed.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:21am stingy d:

auto-tune just really pisses on my steps.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:22am annie:

wait, wait.. it gets better: "operation new dawn" guess what that is..
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:24am Cecile:

A end-times movie with Kirk Cameron that's straight to video?
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:25am Cecile:

I like some auto-tune stuff - but I really liked Zapp and Roger back in the day. (RIP)
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:26am Stuart Troutman:

uh- oh, this is getting too fathomable.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:26am dc pat:

sorry, I'm with singy...
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:33am dc pat:

Right on drummer some, been wondering about that myself..
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:34am Hugo:

I thought Tangier was unfathomable ...
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:36am dale:

okla city bombers and unibomber were branded terrorists. this is no different.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:40am Drummer Some:

It took a long time before the Okla bombers were referred to as terrorists. Remember the initial MANIA that "Middle Eastern looking" men had been seen leaving the area. The media acted so let down when it only turned out to be crew-cut ex U.S. military. The branding of them as terrorists only happened later.

In my recollection.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:40am Cecile:

ita, dale. ITA
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:41am annie:

cecile, it's the new branded name for "operation iraqi freedom" to be implemented in september!!
Fri. 2/19/10 11:41am north guinea hills:

the freepers were calling the airplane guy an anti-religious communist based on his manifesto. then they wondered aloud why the liberals weren't taking responsibility for the crimes of one of their own.

(that site can make one feel real dirty)
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:43am Cecile:

I know. The media were let down, and they should have been scared out of their minds!

Oh, God. I can't read that site ever since they all stopped listening to Brian Eno because he was "un-American"
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:44am Cecile:

any hoo, everyone, what's for lunch?
Me, my experimental same-day-every-day lunch of veggies, brown rice and tuna fish. I've heard from some experts to eat the same thing at lunch to curb hunger. It's not really working, but at least its' reasonably healthy.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:46am Ike:

I didn't have a chance to comment earlier about the Ebony Hillbillies. I've seen them giving great performances at 42nd St. near the S train a few times, and always wish I could stop and listen longer. Not as impressed with the recorded material of theirs that I've heard. Maybe they need to do a live record.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:46am Drummer Some:

Bryce just called to say he'll be about seven minutes late. I'll keep the African dance frolic happening till he shows his cherubic cheeks.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:46am annie:

i'm a two meals-a-day person myself.. last one close to sunset. and try to include hefty dose of protein for breakfast to take me to the second meal
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:49am Ne-guh-tor:

This set was choice, Doug. I love African cultures and stuff.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:52am annie:

i love fridays
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:53am dc pat:

I'm a 7 or 8 meals-a-day person.

  Fri. 2/19/10 11:56am stingy d:

i only eat 16 times a day. but every time i eat, it's an eighth of a meal.
  Fri. 2/19/10 11:59am matt:

this is incredible high life right now thanks!
Fri. 2/19/10 11:59am north guinea hills:

I usually eat about 6 times a day, but i just only finished my second breakfast, so, it may only be a 4 meal day. Usually, each meal is small. I'll probably have udon noodles for lunch #1.
  Fri. 2/19/10 12:00pm Drummer Some:

I want to be reincarnated as the bass player on this track.
  Fri. 2/19/10 12:01pm dc pat:

cannot argue with that DS.
  Fri. 2/19/10 12:01pm Ne-guh-tor:

Are they talking about Nomi? Klaus Nomi?
Fri. 2/19/10 12:10pm north guinea hills:

damn, that minimal bass line in this "bonus" track is tight.....
