Accordionist and singer Rana Santacruz is at the vanguard of New York's burgeoning Mexican emigre music scene, leading a sharp young band that runs a wildly eclectic gamut from rancheras to rock, bluegrass to Mariachi, Nueva Cancion to Irish music.

His solo debut cd Chicavasco is hot off the presses - a big gig to celebrate its release is coming up at Joe's Pub on March 4. We get a preview tonight with Rana and band live in the studio.

I can't get enough Rana Santacruz!! I heard Rana for the first time at Salmon Arm Blues & Roots Festival last year. This is my favorite music to do yoga to, my favorite music to meditate to, to play during periods of spiritual fasting, and my favorite music to just FREAK OUT to!!
