Listener comments!

  6:02am
Chuck:

Morning! Just got back from LI yesterday. Sorry I missed last weeks show...
  6:03am
Meghan:

You missed the insanity! Well my insanity! I made a crazy goal and surpassed it!
  6:04am
Chuck:

Well congratulations are in order then! Nice job!
  6:06am
Meghan:

No, i should say THANK YOU to all the listeners!! For stepping up! though my crazy goal got blown away the next day... it was still fun
  6:06am
Chuck:

I only found out what the theme was for this week a minute ago. Are Echo and the Bunnymen in the lineup?
  6:09am
Meghan:

of course! this was actually not an easy theme.... but listener Allen picked it cause he pledged the most! Though, when I first heard it, i didn't think it would be that hard.... ha!
  6:11am
Dave B:

If the last two weeks are proof, ANYTHING is possible.

Morning peeps!
  6:11am
Chuck:

Yeah, just based on my own collection, which I just looked through, there isn't that much for this theme. It's good to be challenged occasionally, don't ya think?
  6:12am
Meghan:

Yay, morning Dave!
  6:12am
Meghan:

I do like the challenge.... and I try to stick with it too! I didn't cheat!
  6:12am
Chuck:

Morning, brother Dave!
  6:13am
Dave B:

I used a thesaurus.
  6:13am
Chuck:

Of course! Where's the fun in cheating?
  6:13am
Dave B:

Greetings Chuck!
  6:15am
Chuck:

Every time I see the name Shep I can only think of "George of the Jungle's" pet elephant. hehe...
  6:16am
Andy in Berlin:

This Daylight Savings time is really screwing me up over here! But I made it..
  6:16am
Dave B:

The first few seconds of that Shep Fields song sounded like his was hitting the bong...
  6:17am
Chuck:

Yay Andy! The clock change almost fowled me up too!
  6:18am
Meghan:

Morning Andy! Screwing YOU up?! I am still asleep!

And Yes Dave, I thought mad scientist lab....
  6:19am
Chuck:

And gave you 1 hour less to prepare, Meghan...
  6:21am
Andy in Berlin:

well at least you have an excuse. I've been up for hours
  6:25am
Steve & Jan Barker:

and us guys here in Beijing where its 6.24pm
  6:26am
Meghan:

wow! Beijing! Amazing!
  6:27am
Chuck:

Wow! I'm definitely going to look Tribe up. Liked this song as soon as it started, and that's rare!
  6:29am
Meghan:

I'll try to bundle it up for you... along with the Cavedogs. You would have loved living in Boston in the late '80's!
  6:31am
Chuck:

I loved the 80s in general. I was having the best time through most of the decade!
  6:31am
Dave B:

Tribe had a Cocteau Twins vibe.

Me like!
  6:32am
Dave B:

Just looking thru the stuff that I did send your way, and man - I was WAAAAY out in left field. Next time I'll skip the thesaurus!
  6:32am
Meghan:

That could be why I loved them so much Dave. I was sooooo into 4AD bands then. Anything that came out on that label made me swoon
  6:33am
Chuck:

Agree, Dave. Probably why I liked them right away...
  6:34am
Meghan:

You weren't way off Dave! I used a lot of what you sent!
  6:39am
Dave B:

heh... great minds think alike!

Besides label kicks, I get into following producers as well. Laswell is one prime example, and an idol of mine. Met him when I was a "poster child" at Celluloid Records back in the mid/late 80s, and have been following his work ever since.
  6:41am
Chuck:

Kind of like Detroit's Jim Diamond, Dave. Every recording he produces is golden!
  6:44am
Dave B:

Working Man / Finding My Way by RUSH

FREAKING RUSH!

YEAH!!!!!
  6:45am
Chuck:

Here we go again! Watch out for Jeff P!
  6:48am
Chuck:

Wow, the VKR DJs would be grateful for $500 for a show. Then again their expenses are less. They probably get some government $ because they're a college station...
  6:49am
kath:

Good Morning!
  6:49am
Andy in Berlin:

You Got To Have a Job (If You Don't Work, You Can't Eat) by James Brown and Marva Whitney!
  6:52am
Meghan:

Morning Kath!
  6:52am
Chuck:

I'll bag up work songs from my collection for ya, Meg. Delivery by my usual method...
  6:53am
Meghan:

Yeah, WVKR is on a college campus, so they most likely don't pay for utilities and for space.... We have a 5 floor building to maintain, and 50K just goes to webstream!
  6:56am
kath:

If you guys are referring to this theme, I too used a thesaurus, after initially going through my regular itunes. I too felt myself veering off so I stopped looking. It was just like being stoned!
  6:57am
Dave B:

Greets Kath!

Hey, Meghan - back on the Estonian topic, here's a band I stumbled across a few years ago if only by chance. I think Chrome Hoof took some cues from these guys.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtYyYrREv8c

p.s.
And every 1 byte of that $50k is appreciated!

p.s.s.

And speaking of Laswell - here's one of his projects for A.P.C.
  6:57am
Chuck:

Yup, a usual yearly goal for them is around 15K...
  6:59am
Chuck:

Explains why their equipment frequently screws up too!
  6:59am
Meghan:

Dave bundle some more of this up for me.... it reminds me a little of the band Lake Trout.... I like this a lot
  7:00am
Dave B:

Ewe Betcha!
  7:06am
Dave B:

Everybody's just groovin out!

The A.P.C. stuff was actually a "soundtrack" project for the A.P.C. clothing company. I think I have 3 or four volumes...

http://usonline.apc.fr/?#/music/
  7:10am
Dave B:

It's like the curd and whey set. Not quite cheese!
  7:10am
kath:

oh this should be interesting!!
  7:11am
Meghan:

ha! good one Dave!
  7:16am
Just saying:

Last night, a dj shaved my wife.
  7:19am
Dave B:

@ just saying. I haven't shot coffee out of my nose in ages!
HA!
  7:21am
Parq:

Morning all. I assume a version of "I Shall Be Released" is coming? Or is "released" not quite "saved" or "rescused"?
  7:23am
Chuck:

Jeez! Flash Gordon... One of the most horrible films ever made, but you couldn't turn away...
  7:23am
Meghan:

morning Parq! hmmm, not in the plans.... that would have been funny though!
  7:24am
Dave B:

Yeah Chuck, kinda like a car crash! I guess there were some aspects of the 80s that weren't so good..
  7:27am
Chuck:

No matter what era, bad film is bad film, Dave...
  7:28am
Dave B:

Yeah - need Dan Ackroyd hosting "BAD CINEMA"
  7:31am
Chuck:

On this topic we should let people know about "Night of the Lepus", Meghan! HA!
  7:33am
Meghan:

HA! love that movie! Cute killer bunnies..... poor things on a horrible scaled set with ketchup on their fur....
  7:33am
Chuck:

Oooo, scary! Giant flesh eating..... Bunnies!?!?
  7:33am
Dave B:

do tell...
  7:35am
Chuck:

It's a classic of horrendously bad horror films, Dave. Check it out if you have the opportunity. You'll have coffee shooting out your nose the whole time!
  7:37am
Dave B:

sweet....

Kinda like Reptilicus?
  7:39am
Chuck:

Just as cheesy in the SFX department. Made in the late 70s I think. Reptilicus was a 60s Dutch film if I remember correctly...
  7:43am
Chuck:

You just made me think of another classically bad one. "Q" was the title... Anyone ever see that one?
  7:44am
Dave B:

Danish, but extremely cheesy. In fact, one might consider it a Cheese Danish.

Just picture Ollie of Kukla and Fran fame wreaking havoc on Copenhagen!
  7:46am
Chuck:

Are your parents there in the studio, Meg? hehe...
  7:46am
Parq:

@Meg - what a shame, I was going to suggest it on FB but I thought it would be too obvious. Hey, wasn't the "work" theme my suggestion? I am quietly proud.
  7:49am
Dave B:

Re: Q via wikipedia:
when movie reviewer Rex Reed met Q's producer, Samuel Z. Arkoff, Reed told him "What a surprise! All that dreck--and right in the middle of it, a great Method performance by Michael Moriarty!" Arkoff replied "The dreck was my idea."
  7:52am
Parq:

Re bass lines. I can't even think about the mathematics of that at this hour of the morning.
  7:54am
Chuck:

It's a little early, of course, but pass the Guiness...
  7:55am
Meghan:

a little hair of the dog... if you will
  7:57am
Chuck:

As long as Bosco's hair is relatively clean!
  7:58am
Dave B:

Guinness - The Breakfast of Champions!
  7:59am
Chuck:

A little Bailey's Irish Creme in your coffee would work too...
  8:08am
Dave B:

A perfect little post patty's playlist
  8:11am
Chuck:

Stress on the "PUH" in that statement...
  8:14am
Chuck:

It's good to have goals. My goal for today, as every day, is to NOT be eaten by a wild animal. Especially giant bunnies....
  8:15am
Meghan:

That is an EXCELLENT goal! But you live in the middle of nowhere, so the possibility is a bit higher for you.... hehe
  8:18am
Chuck:

Yes, and there are lots of bunnies, so I'm always on my guard!
  8:24am
Andy in Berlin:

don't forget International Rescue by Fuzzbox
http://www.last.fm/music/Fuzzbox/+videos/+1-vQINNsOym1w
  8:28am
Jeff:

Morning all! Great show Meghan. I thought I would be singing the cranberries all day, but it will be queen... Flash, Ahahhhh! It's going to be a fun day.
  8:30am
Dave B:

I gotta get stepping, but will be sending some stuff by the weekend. Thanks for making Thursdays the best!
  8:32am
Andy in Berlin:

Had to turn this up - no mercy for the neighbors!
  8:33am
Parq:

My dog also seems to like everything I eat. And everything people throw on the sidewalk, and everything left behind by pigeons, and ...
  8:33am
Meghan:

Awww thanks Dave! And great.... I am stuck with Jeff for the rest of the day singing- Flash.... ahhhhh!
  8:34am
Chuck:

More is the pity........ How's your left hook?
  8:37am
Meghan:

ha! mine too Parq! Mine too! Ken even asked if Bosco would lick peanut butter off of Andy for SSD..... ewwwww
  8:40am
Andy in Berlin:

all the more peanut butter for Olive
  8:41am
Chuck:

Hmmm... Second appearance by LaVerne.
  8:44am
Parq:

If Bosco is anything like my spaniel, and I suspect he is, he would lick peanut butter off fetid driftwood. And, wouldn't you agree that "Fetid Driftwood" would be a good name for a band?
  8:46am
Woo:

RIP Alex Chilton
  8:46am
Meghan:

oh god yes.... yes to both! Bosco is a peanut butter whore.... As for Fetid Driftwood.... not on Myspace as a band! So people, pick that one up quick!
  8:47am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I vote for "Working In The Factory" from the Kinks. That was from the 80's. That line was in the chorus. Not sure if that's the title of that song. Excellent show, as always, by the way. Also, the morning show on Monday had the same kind of distortion your Thanksgiving show experienced. They fixed the problem about half-way through.
  8:48am
Meghan:

oh interesting Ken.... it's a computer glitch. Glad I am FINALLY not the only one that had that issue!
  8:49am
Meghan:

Yes Woo.... it was very sad to hear that we lost Alex Chilton... Big Star was supposed to play the SXSW festival too....
  8:49am
Andy in Berlin:

Hey, what about Piss Factory by Patti Smith for work?
  8:51am
Jeff:

Nice, the Fixx! That's another one that will be stuck in my head all day.
  8:51am
Meghan:

writing down all suggestions!
  8:52am
Chuck:

Ah, there it is....
  2:16am
Elwyn:

Hey Meghan: I am now listening to you with the magic of WFMU archives. I was out to dinner last night with friends who I haven't seen in months.

Everyone else: http://www.tribeonline.info/ has lots of Tribe stuff including that impossible to find debut EP in MP3 format.
