Travis Senger & Mark Skillz  The Filmmakers Discuss "White Lines And The Fever: The Death Of DJ Junebug"   Favoriting       The hip-hop documentary "White Lines And The Fever: The Death Of DJ Junebug," which premiered at SXSW and will be screened again during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this month, is the story of the Bronx old school hip-hop mecca Disco Fever and one of its central musical figures - the late great hip-hop pioneer DJ Junebug. The documentary, which includes interviews with such legendary old school hip-hop artists as DJ Hollywood, Disco Bee, Sweet G, and Kurtis Blow, tells the story with a tragic ending of the super talented DJ Junebug's double-life as a turntablist and drug dealer. Directed by Travis Senger the film was inspired by the 2004 Wax Poetics article "When The Fever Was The Mecca," penned by Mark Skillz who co-wrote the film. Skillz and Senger, in town for the Tribeca Film Festival, along with Disco Bee and Sweet G will stop by WFMU to join Billy Jam. So glad you had those guys on, Billy - excellent listening. I've always loved Lovebug Starski without really knowing the whole story of the scene he came out of, so I'm looking forward to seeing this when it becomes available to the hoi polloi like me.

i love the old school hip-hop theme of today's show billyjam! especially your interview with the filmmaker and author of the documentary about the disco fever. speaking as someone who grew up in that neighborhood blocks from fever it took me back to my childhood. i'm not sure if your guests mentioned that the disco fever was also featured prominently in the film krush groove. rest in peace guru, you were a great mc! long live the disco fever, 371, rooftop & funhouse!
  5:00pm
Tall Paul:

Yo Timi, looking forward to the Timi D show next week:-). Yep your right it is a sad loss with the death of Guru. May he rest in peace. Now this Kurtis B takes me back when HipHop and B-Boying came to the Dublin streets in the earlys 80's.

Keep it upbeat, Billy, please - I've just realised that a 1/2 day's work has disappeared off my computer. No trace of it anywhere, not even an autosaved version.
  5:36pm

Is the computer you are using a work computer?
  5:37pm
north guinea hills:

Have a great weekend everyone!
  5:39pm
LizGig:

It is, ALF, but I don't think IT can help me. I'm pretty certain I opened a version attached to an email and, although I saved compulsively, I didn't click Yes when it asked me if I wanted to save the changes to the email itself.
  5:40pm
LizGig:

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea MAXIMA culpa.
  5:42pm
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Oh...I was gonna ask you if your company gives you your own personal folder on the network?
  5:45pm
LizGig:

Nah. They use SharePoint. Usually working off SharePoint is no good for me because I have culchie broadband, but I wouldn't have this problem now if I had used it. Bye bye budget target. However, Flying Lotus is absolutely amazing, and far more important than my company's poxy budget.
  5:51pm
LizGig:

I vote for listening to Flying Lotus.
  5:56pm
Bad Ronald:
