Listener comments!

  6:01am
Chuck:

Morning! Nice to have a working machine, eh?
  6:01am
Elwyn:

Hey everyone!
  6:02am
Meghan:

Morning All! Yes, so nice to have my stuff back and working!
  6:04am
Elwyn:

And not robbed thankfully! I'm starting to worry about getting robbed. My TV, CD and DVD collection is too big to take but my precious PlayStation and electric guitar!
  6:05am
Chuck:

Have you heard of any robberies in the neighborhood, Elwyn?
  6:06am
Meghan:

They took his TV and Wii and maybe a few other things.... don't remember what, but yay Bosco!!!
  6:07am
Elwyn:

No. But my place doesn't even have a security door downstairs and has its some vandalism outside.

On the other hand, my front door is dark thick. They need an axe or zombie army to breakthrough.

When I finally get Internet sorted out at my place, maybe I'll have a 24 hour/day web cam. My plan has so much download capacity.
  6:08am
Chuck:

"His", Meghan??? Who are you talking about?
  6:09am
Elwyn:

Wow! I haven't heard this song or album in about 10 years!
  6:10am
Chuck:

Try getting a cabinet with a lock if you're concerned, Elwyn. I have one.
  6:10am
Meghan:

My neighbor downstairs. My building was broken into.
  6:11am
Elwyn:

I only seem to get worried when people talk about insurance and break-ins.
  6:11am
Chuck:

That SUCKS!!! Fortunately, I live so far in the boonies I never fret about such things...
  6:11am
Meghan:

Get renters insurance... it's so worth it
  6:12am
Chuck:

I don't even lock my door if I'm out for a short while...
  6:12am
Elwyn:

It used to really anger me when one of my ex-housemates would leave the front door open whenever he was expecting guests but wouldn't be anywhere nearing to keeping an eye on who comes in.
It sucked in winter and there's a reason for the doorbell.
  6:15am
Chuck:

Nice how you've managed to get from Glenn Miller to here, Meg! Practically seamless....
  6:16am
Meghan:

hehe... like you didn't notice!
  6:16am
Elwyn:

Other news: I still haven't gotten my bond back from the last place. The landlord wants to take out $200 for paint damage and here's the crazy part: he wants $400 for hiring a gardener to trim the creepers that they planted!! They are creepers!!!
  6:18am
Chuck:

What! Grounds keeping is supposed to be the landlords responsibility.... That's not right!
  6:19am
Pierre:

Bonjour Meghan, is "Ohio" the theme of today's Underwater theme park ?
  6:19am
Elwyn:

Apparently, it was part of our lease but they are creepers!!! What do landlords expect from creepers?
  6:21am
Meghan:

Bonjour Pierre! No, we are continuing the road trip.... so now it is the next 5 states...
  6:22am
Chuck:

Sounds like a DIY to me, Elwyn... Better than getting charged for it....
  6:24am
Marmalade Kitty:

Ohio!
..sounds like a greeting, but it means Great River!
  6:25am
Elwyn:

Heh. That household had two World of Warcraft junkies and one PlayStation junkie! Got no time for gardening! :-)

Bonjour Pierre and M.Kitty!
  6:25am
Meghan:

ha! Great River next to a Great Lake!
  6:26am
Elwyn:

Meghan! Can we stop the car to stalk Bob Pollard and Kim and Kelley Deal?
  6:26am
Chuck:

Are we gonna make a stop in Chi-town when we get to Illinois, Meghan? Just spoke to the Koh-Varilla's last week...
  6:27am
Meghan:

no pit stops Elwyn! Last week made us behind as is!!
  6:27am
Marmalade Kitty:

Elwyn, get a big guard dog!
  6:28am
Howard:

Hey. Thanks for the Dean Wareham tickets @ Bowery. Cool show. Still wished it was a full fledged reunion though.
  6:28am
Pierre:

Bonjour Elwyn
  6:29am
Elwyn:

Mmm... I was thinking of getting a Golden Retriever if my landlord permits it... they have a reputation for being mild. :-)

Meghan! *points* They're just over there, doing cool illict stuff! We gotta stop. *wimpers*
  6:34am
Chuck:

Wisconsin doesn't exactly roll off the lips... Maybe that's why there are so few songs...
  6:34am
Meghan:

Hey there Howard! Yeah, it was a fun show. I talked to them before the interview about their friendship and he said it was a bit rocky, like the break up of a first love.... so I am glad there wasn't that tension there!
  6:36am
Meghan:

Ha.... Elwyn, like Bosco is ferocious!
  6:39am
?:

I feel like ReRun in the credits of "Whats Happenin'"

"WAIT FOR ME!"

(morning gang)
  6:40am
Meghan:

*giggles* I assume this is Dave....
  6:41am
Dave B:

yep. Coffees brewing!
  6:42am
Chuck:

Speaking of pets... Gotta go tend to G'Kar's needs. Back in a minute....
  6:43am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Hey there everybody?! Meghan, how's the car running this morning?
  6:44am
annie:

morning all... chrome is taking forever to load today... took me 20 minutes to get here..
  6:44am
Meghan:

Morning ALF! It's up and running today! We are BACK!
  6:45am
Dave B:

At least we're in the Motor City, in the event of any problems...
  6:45am
Chuck:

Ugh! G'Kar is a crap magnet... Burrs stuck all over him again...
Morning Dave, Annie, and ALF!
  6:45am
Meghan:

morning Annie....
  6:46am
Dave B:

and my Number check on that was 327, a nice peppy Chevy Smallblock displacement.
  6:47am
Dave B:

hey, is this the first use of Sufjan during this road trip? If so, well played!
  6:48am
Chuck:

I always liked GM's 225 slant 6... Great engine that they haven't made in years...
  6:48am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Never heard of Sufjan Stevens, but me likes! :-)
  6:49am
Chuck:

Had a '73 Plymouth Valiant in college... Fun car!
  6:50am
Dave B:

@ALF - anyone who can write a beautiful song about John Wayne Gacy Jr. is alright in my book..
  6:50am
annie:

chuck ain't livin in the boonies great? we never lock our doors here unless we're going out of town..
  6:51am
Dave B:

My first car was a 1964 Chevelle with a 3 on the tree. Thing used to stick between 1st and 2nd..
  6:51am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

I've been to Ann Arbor once too. It is a beautiful town. "Wolverine Town"
  6:51am
Chuck:

Yup, love it Annie! Who's gonna rob me, the DEER? The coyotes?
  6:53am
Chuck:

Nice on the Chevelle, Dave! My first was a '72 Buick Skylark... What a beast! Had the 350 "rocket" engine in it....
  6:55am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

If you drive thru Texas on I-40 thru Amarillo, you will be in and out of the state in no time. Perfect reason to not play the thousands of songs about Texas.
  6:55am
Dave B:

YES! ARKANSAS!!!

If only ONE SONG, it must be this...

http://www.last.fm/music/Charles+Manson/_/Arkansas
  6:55am
Chuck:

Indiana! RV capitol of America!
  6:59am
karen:

The 3rd holiday is Sukkot, its the Harvest.
  7:01am
Meghan:

ah! Thanks! Is that the one where I see the covered huts on balconies in Brooklyn? I remember that being the fall....
  7:02am
Chuck:

God, I haven't heard this song in ages! Thanks, Meghan!
  7:02am
Dave B:

a colleague of mine always refers me to the following site, for all questions about his faith:

http://www.jewfaq.org
  7:02am
karen:

That's pronounced (Soocoat)
  7:05am
Chuck:

I was wondering if this one would make the cut, Meg... hehe....
  7:09am
Marmalade Kitty:

Michigan meaning - Great Lake!
Indiana - Land of Indians!
  7:11am
Meghan:

Chuck, are you headed back to Chicago?
  7:12am
Chuck:

Not any time soon, Meg. I just wanted to talk to Anna and Jeff and see what they were up to. It's been 2 years since I was there last...
  7:13am
Meghan:

ahhhh, I was wondering if it was another new job
  7:15am
karen:

Yes, the hut is called a "sukah" and the roof is usually just branches so you can see the stars and eeaven and give thanks for the harvest.
  7:15am
Chuck:

Evey artist I speak to says things are still very slow. Good thing my client base has expanded. I've got pieces to pick up in Beacon in addition to the stuff that's aready in my shop. Business is booming on my end!
  7:15am
Elwyn:

Wouldn't it be cool if John Cougar got attacked by a "cougar" and became an actual cougar?

I spy with my little eye, something that starts with "R".
  7:16am
Chuck:

Yay! Chameleons!
  7:18am
Dave B:

Bottlerockets and Chameleons! W00T!
  7:22am
annie:

hey chuck where are you?? i'm over in delaware county..
  7:22am
Elwyn:

Didn't David Letterman come from Indiana?
  7:23am
Chuck:

Ulster county, Annie. New Paltz specifically...
  7:28am
Chuck:

Never miss a chance to slip in a 4AD record, eh, Meghan?
  7:30am
Meghan:

ha! no... but this was part of a compilation. Plus lately I don't realize it for the new groups. Haven't kept up with the label like I used to
  7:32am
Chuck:

Interesting. I thought 4AD was defunct. Haven't seen anything new on that label....
  7:34am
Dave B:

This Albert King track got some use, hmm...
  7:35am
Chuck:

I think we need to resurrect the STIFF record company! That would be fun!
  7:35am
Elwyn:

Didn't 4AD also release that Pixies boxset with new Vaughan Oliver artwork last year (but no new tracks or remastering)?
  7:35am
Meghan:

yeah it did! I was trying to fix it... but it just didn't want to be fixed.... oh well
  7:37am
Meghan:

*swoons at Vaughn Oliver's work*

4 AD has been putting out a lot of new stuff.
  7:38am
Dave B:

looking for some rustic co-ed rump!
  7:43am
Elwyn:

I can't help you there, Dave!

Meghan, do you have any tips for guys asking out bartenders/baristas? I overheard one saying she got dumped by a guy she spoke to on the phone a few times. How do I NOT creep out this lady in the hospitality industry?
  7:45am
Dave B:

it's part of the lyric Elwyn...

and my advice - don't hit on them while they're working. It's gotta be objectifying.
  7:46am
Chuck E. Jesus:

if you don't play Crucifux for WI, well, i'll be dissappointed...
  7:46am
Chuck:

Kevin Finch was from Wisconsin originally if you recall, Meg....
  7:48am
Chuck:

Cheese and beer! How can you go wrong? Of course, the gas factor could be an issue....
  7:51am
Meghan:

I agree with Dave. Just be your witty self and make her laugh. Can't ever go wrong with making a girl laugh.
  7:55am
Dave B:

and if that fails, try chloroform...
  7:57am
Chuck:

Easy there, Dave! Agree with Meghan. I've "scored" by making women laugh.... But, I WAS the bartender then. Don't know about roll reversal...
  7:58am
Elwyn:

I don't see her except at work. I think I'll just give her my phone number and say "if you want to hang out sometime..."

We're all getting an ample supply of calcium from WI! :-)
  8:01am
Elwyn:

Chuck, that makes me wanna do a barista course more now! Mmm... There are so many things I want to buy when I get any of my bond back: course, record player and a robot vacuum cleaner
  8:03am
Dave B:

I kid... I kid! (about the chloroform)

If she's working bar/coffee - just tell her you'd like to buy her a beverage sometime and someplace else.
  8:11am
Chuck:

Funny, I never took a course to bartend... Learned it on the fly... You, Meghan?
  8:13am
Dave B:

Here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVSb1AXTyuk
  8:13am
Meghan:

Learning as I go! Only way to do it is to make the same drinks over and over....
  8:16am
Chuck:

The rough one is when you get an order for a drink that you only have 70% of the official ingredients too! Making convincing substitutions is part of it...
  8:16am
Dave B:

@chuck and meghan - it's all about the sampling and quality control!

:-)
  8:16am
Parq:

Catchy song, this Push Stars.
  8:18am
Meghan:

this is math and physics Club
  8:18am
Chuck:

I had to wing a Mai Tai like that once...
  8:18am
Elwyn:

People are puzzled when I tell people I want to go to MN and when I tell them some of my favourite bands come from there, they are still puzzled. If I recall correctly, the Mats, Huskers, Dylan, Prince, Low and Soul Asylum came from there. I wish I could go back in time and see the Mats and Huskers
  8:21am
Parq:

I know, Meg, I was late on the draw.
  8:21am
Parq:

Would'a made a lousy gunfighter.
  8:22am
Chuck:

My father lived in Minneapolis for many years before he died. Never been there myself...
  8:22am
Meghan:

hehe... so would I...
  8:24am
Elwyn:

I finished Red Dead Redemption to 100% completion but I don't thing that'd make any good in the real wild west.
  8:25am
Chuck:

Using a REAL hand gun is totally different, Elwyn! Trust me....
  8:26am
Chuck:

WooHoo! Dictators!
  8:26am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Meghan, I don't know how much rap music you play on your show, but I know of a song about Minnesota by the group Atmosphere called "Shh" . Wish I would have e-mailed you a week ago about it.
  8:28am
Meghan:

I do play it when I can fit it in! always feel free to send me it. Especially for these shows where I am not grouping by genre... trying to change up my format a bit.
  8:28am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Just looked at the lyrics and I don't think there are any curses on it.
  8:29am
kath:

didn't even realise it was Thursday already!!!
  8:29am
Meghan:

still would be safe on my show! curses are allowed on web only shows!
  8:29am
Meghan:

morning Kath! How quickly the week flies by!
  8:30am
kath:

Might be taking a REAL road trip next week, from NY to Northern Kentucky.
  8:30am
Chuck:

Hi, Kath! Boy, you have been in a time warp of late...
  8:30am
Meghan:

oh! Pick me up some good bourbon!
  8:30am
Dave B:

greets
  8:30am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Wish I was there at the station with you right now. I could probably maybe ask someone to look for the CD in the archives for you
  8:31am
CEJ:

question: what does WFMU broadcast while the web-only shows play?
  8:31am
kath:

@Chuck, it's that weird limbo of kinds no longer in summer camp and not yet back in school.
  8:32am
Chuck:

School starts next week, doesn't it?
  8:32am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

@ CEJ I think JM in The AM is on the air right now. I may be wrong.
  8:33am
Meghan:

The broadcast JM in the AM... it's an all Jewish show. They play music and go over various Jewish events and news from Israel... That is why we get to be on regular airwaves when a Jewish Holiday comes about....
  8:34am
Elwyn:

Morning Kath! Can't wait for the weekend. Gonna have a few bourbons and play SingStar with inebriated friends
  8:35am
Elwyn:

That explains why there's always JM at end of the podcasts!!
  8:35am
kath:

So, too bad I missed the first set. We are looking for a house on the Ohio River, along the south, Kentucky side.
  8:37am
Chuck:

Just make sure the house isn't on the flood plain, Kath! They have problems like that...
  8:38am
Parq:

Stayed way too long coz I had to hear that Weird Al song. Heard about it for years, but never actually heard it before. Great day and weekend gang. See you after the big scary hurricane.
  8:40am
Chuck:

Walter "Radar" O'Reilly from "MASH"...
  8:41am
Chuck:

James T. Kirk (aka, The Shat) was from Iowa also...
  8:42am
Elwyn:

It shouldn't surprise me that other countries have "big" tourist traps. There's a Wikipedia page listing all the ones in Australia.
  8:42am
Meghan:

I thought Kirk was from Montreal.... they named a building in McGill for him.... maybe he went to school there...
  8:42am
annie:

dennis kucinich is from iowa
  8:44am
Meghan:

well Kath... if you move down there, I expect care packages to the station of tasty treats....
  8:45am
Dave B:

the Shat is Quebecquois...(sp)
  8:45am
Chuck:

I meant fictional character Capt. Jim Kirk, Meg. Not Bill Shatner, I think he's from Montreal...
  8:46am
Elwyn:

The nerd in me needs to point out that whilst Kirk says he was born in Iowa but works in outer space in Star Trek 4, in the alternative timeline he was born in outer space but raised in Iowa
  8:46am
kath:

Kirk is from Iowa, Shat is from Canada.
  8:47am
Meghan:

ahhhhhhh. See, I just don't watch (or have ever watched) Star trek
  8:47am
kath:

oh man, no Rush, no Star Trek, geeezze!!!!
  8:48am
kath:

oops. I said the 'R' word!
  8:48am
Chuck:

Ah! But you've hit it right there, Elwyn! The time line was ALTERED! Get it?
  8:48am
Meghan:

*giggles* silly Kath
  8:50am
Dave B:

Get A Life!

http://www.myvideo.de/watch/127096/Star_Trek_TOS_William_Shatner_SNL_Get_A_Life
  8:51am
Parq:

In, what was it, the fourth Star Trek movie, the one with the whale:

Girl: Are you telling me you're from outer space?

Kirk: No, I'm from Iowa, I just work in outer space.
  8:52am
Andy in Berlin:

I forgot about that - that's funny!
  8:53am
Meghan:

Andy! he's sneaky that one.....
  8:53am
Chuck:

Cool! Dar actually lives in my area!
  8:53am
Dave B:

who me?
  8:54am
Andy in Berlin:

Sneaky - that's me!
  8:56am
Andy in Berlin:

So since we didn't get to Nebraska yet, you definitely have to play Omaha by Stan Freberg. I thought it was really long but I looked it up and it's like 5 minutes or something.
  8:56am
Elwyn:

Ah! There's a wikipedia page explaining how Riverside, Iowa got officially recognised as his future birth place...
  8:57am
annie:

and the maharishi, he's from iowa... the group of which mr. kucinich is a part..
  8:57am
Dave B:

Right, I gotta get to work. Boss is in town this week, need to make a good impression and try to arrive before 10am.

see y'all next week!
