A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:07am
trouble:

  9:09am
Andrew:

After several years of only listening to WFMU archives, I am finally wired for live sound at work. And where better to begin...
  9:12am
MARC:

Good Morning. Wouldn't be Tuesday morning without Trouble.
  9:15am
annie:

for a second, there, i thought it was drummer some.
  9:21am
Listener Greg:

Totes forgot you were on Tuesday now- what a pleasant surprise!
  9:23am
Josh in Richmond:

Give the drummer some Trouble?
  9:32am
Jennique:

Good morning Trouble. I didn't know Patti La Belle had "bells" in the backup. They should be "belles", n'est-ce pas?
  9:34am
Patrick:

good morning trouble, great to hear your voice here in Ohio this morning!
  9:36am
emily:

Patrick is listening at school and I'm tuned in at home. Always a treat to listen to your show! Give DJ Icepack our regards.
  9:37am
trouble:

patrick and emily you are such a modern couple, listening separately but equally...hi hi!
  9:38am
sheepaul:

hi trouble
thanks for the wake up text, did all the listeners get one?
According to her orbituary, cancer took Ari :(
Thanks for the beautiful music on this TUESDAY!
  9:39am
Jennique:

Trouble - I have not been able to get Ari Up out of my mind since I heard the news. I've been listening to New Age Steppers and The Slits ever since. She is a treasure and I feel like a friend has passed away. I am doing some artwork with her in it. Thanks for the acknowledgment.
  9:41am
Bad Ronald:

Amy Rigby on Ari's passing:

  9:46am
Patrick:

where else but on WFMU would such a thing happen!
  9:46am
marq:

Thank you Trouble for doing the modification station at the fair this weekend. always fun and people made some cool stuff. Lots of Harry Belafonte and glitter. and googly eyes.
  9:49am
yayson:

jeez ari up and gregory issacs in the same week?
  9:49am
trouble:

i do love doing the modification station, it appeals to all ages and the results are sooo fab!
  9:55am
Parq:

My complements for the LP Mod, too, Miss T. I also dug the Belafonte, as well as the Ram and Lynn Anderson Christmas remixes.
  10:03am
Cecile:

I discovered a new wave gem from a band I don't care for: The Divinyls' "Boys in Town". She blows a raspberry in the middle of the song, and classic line: "I'm just a red brassiere to all the boys in town."
  10:04am
marq:

Parq was there? Too bad I didn't get to meet everyone at the fair. Met several listeners at the fair that I only have known from the listener comments. That's the thing about being a listener from afar. Got to be in wfmu land for a few days anyway.
  10:04am
Cecile:

Tom Tom Club lifted so much from the Steppers.
  10:08am
staceyjoy:

thanks for playing Ari Up today, and I love the Tue. thing, I can listen longer..xxxooo
  10:09am
dc pat:

BR: HOLY GOSH, I cannot read white text on black background--it KILLS my eyes. but I got the gist. People don't really get Ari Up. And I think most people miss the Peel sessions--that's where you have to start.
  10:09am
Cecile:

I think you are speaking huge generalities. Cancer is enviromnental, but it also is a disease of longevity. Remember most of us would have been dead by 45 as early as 60 years ago.

Spooner Oldham and Dan Penn were the backing musicians on the Box Tops records.
  10:10am
Bad Ronald:

Love this Bob Welch tune!!!
  10:10am
Cecile:

can be environmental, is what I meant to say.
  10:10am
annie:

this is fine....
  10:11am
Cecile:

I always wanted Kermit the Frog to sing this song on the Muppet show.
  10:11am
Kevin:

If you don't die from anything else first, cancer is the way you go. Even if you were living in perfect eden-istic bliss, you'd get cancer from being out in the sun, etc. Your cells mutate even in the absence of these other sources.
  10:12am
Vivian:

I totally agree with you. Cheaper living through chemistry. Currently, I'm reading Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer and trying to convince my carnivore friend to pick it up. Anyone who eats meat really should read this book.
  10:15am
marq:

the cancer thing. a lot of it has to do with genetics as well. think about lead. some people can be exposed to it all day and everyday and it doesn't do much of anything to them. Others get a dust of lead in their lungs and they are all done.
  10:16am
Kevin:

This las grecas song is really good
  10:17am
Cecile:

And the factors of smoking and drinking are powerful. My friend, who eats cleaner than anyone I know, got mouth cancer from his young days of chain-smoking, guzzling gallons of red wine, and yeah, a serious family history of cancer. He's doing amazing, but still. Scary!

But please don't say no one care about cancer. And no one is protesting additives, etc. That ain't the truth. It might not be as widespread as you like,...
  10:17am
trouble:

hello miss staceyjoy! syl johnson is doing the answering messages this week i do believe...
  10:22am
trouble:

cecile i am trying to say that we shouldn't have to go out of our way to avoid additives. The gov't protects big business and they whole mess with hormones added to cows to quicken milk production is the perfect example. we have a very lax policy , unlike europe where many nations ban additives in food, packaging, fertilizers, etc that we let thru no prob...
  10:23am
dc pat:

..and even Europe is lax on things like BPA regulation.
  10:24am
Adrian in London:

Brrrrr. Sitting at work with a puffa coat on. Thankfully Trouble's songs are warming me up.
  10:24am
kristy:

trouble, i wanted to apologize for my boyfriend poking you in a photo at the record fair as i can imagine that would be creepy. i honestly don't think he'll actually do these things. but, we really do enjoy your show so much <3 i think he especially thanks you for strawberry letter 23 today. you have made him happier than i can.
  10:25am
chris:

I can't believe you played Ebony Eyes and I can't believe I missed it
  10:29am
Parq:

I agree completely with Miss T about taking care of yourself because the govt is only looking out for business. Most don't even bother to hide it; the likely next Governor of NY has just made a big splash in the papers by promising he will fully support business in its war on unions. You may not dig unions -- many lefties don't, and understandably not in light of some unions' recent stances toward the left -- but anyone has got to be shocked by a Democrat named Cuomo promising to use his elected authority to make poor downtrodden business more powerful.
  10:30am
Cecile:

I completely agree with that. I am 100% behind that, trouble.
  10:30am
trouble:

no apologies needed kristy. ...
  10:30am
Vivian:

Folks can get by without additives or chemicals by cutting back on prepackaged food, household cleaners and meat. Factory Farm produces 99% of the meat on the market. Science, more so hormones and antibotics, have made it possible to remove animals' biological needs. All that goes into the environment and you.
  10:31am
Jesse:

killin it trouble

Well darn, guess I missed the whole lovely cancer discussion. Better late than never.
  10:34am

I do, too, Trouble.
Also, the fascination with soul singers with the Bee Gees.

Hey from Madison. The skies are low, and the lakes are gray.
  10:39am
Jennique:

It's 70 degrees in NYC and Central Park is exploding with fall colors.
  10:41am
aaron in chicago:

the news says "gusts as high as 60 mph" today. oy
  10:41am
Shana:

Checking in from my office at the University of Michigan Library this fine morning. The Burton clock tower is stuck at 6:30.
  10:42am
βrian:

Glad it's not the eleventh hour ...
  10:48am
annie:

i am reading the cancer debate here.. huge morass of issues and causes. i mostly blame our toxic environment, both spiritual and physical.
  10:50am
dc pat:

overcast, gray yet humid in DC. Thanks for the humidity, it kept my son's croup in check last night...
  10:52am
marq:

Jennique: 51 degrees in central VT. Some of the mountains have snow. but forecast says it will get to 68 today. Foggy today but will lift. I think our fall colors are about gone. It was really nice seeing the fall foliage brilliant in NYC when I was there over the weekend. Almost like people going south to extend their summer.
  10:52am
seang:

the cancer of time is eating us all away...
  10:55am
Cecile:

seang dude, that is the truth.
  10:57am
marq:

does our time need some preservatives to make it last longer?
  10:58am
Cecile:

On some level, I'm thorougly pickled.
  10:59am
Jennique:

Marq - Glad you made it down to NYC. I kinda figured all the leaves have peaked up north if they are bright down here.Biked to work this morning and saw them all bright as ever in the park.
  10:59am
Cecile:

Oh, hey! A moment of silence for Paul, the signifying World Cup octopus. I am honoring him by banging my head against a rock until it's tender, plugging too many appliances into one outlet, and reading some Thomas Nast Standard Oil cartoons.
  11:02am
βrian:

Ah, I miss Vermont! Used to live here: http://tinyurl.com/MadMaggies

Good riddance to that damn octopus, now maybe Deutschland will win.
  11:05am

  11:06am
dc pat:

annie's got the toxins under control.
  11:19am
Peter:

Thanks for the LP Modification experience and the amazing Record Fair. Back in Seattle listenin' live and ready to impart NYC cultural energy to the little ones!
  11:20am
trouble:

peter you mean you're going to charge them $4 for a cup of coffee?? it was great to see you and meet the famille.
  11:20am
Carmichael:

You're all over the musical map, Troub. This is cool!
  11:21am
Harry:

Everybody's toxin at me....
  11:23am
marq:

Peter: Yes. The back home lag from the record fair. I stayed in Chinatown and I brought back not only wfmu record fair goodies but Asian candies and such from the stores in Chinatown. Some strange fruit, too. and the energy, though I am tired right now from doing too much.
  11:24am
Cayenne:

Yea! Intelligent people with a transmitter!
  11:29am
Parq:

Wait, Paul the Clairvoyant Octopus died? Oh man, and these things always come in threes. Spuds McKensie deathwatch time.
  11:29am
marq:

as a PSA for anyone using JFK airport. I missed my original flight and had to wait several hours to get the next flight to VT. I decided to take the Airtrain to Jamaica station and see what was around since I had some time. Very nice little strip right there if you go outside the station to the street. Food and a few nice places to eat and drink. Much better than the airport options. And so simple to get to and from the airport. There was even a sign at a gas station high up that said "beer city"
  11:32am
Jennique:

Trouble - GOT IT. You must love the Sleepys ad - for the REST of your life. Personally those kind of word games make me want to bang my head on a table.
  11:36am
trouble:

oops sorry to be a pest jennique. i guess i only like them in corny country ish songs...but the sleepy's ad had passed me by in concept...but now i'm rockin it!
  11:42am

Oohh man ... I recognized this from the opening riff. Small Faces is one of my all-time faves. Nice surprise, Trouble!
  11:44am
postmanpaul:

Lcd soundsystem's North American Scum was worth turning up late for! In my opinion.
Nice post 7"week show Trouble! Hey, hang on, where am I
  11:47am
Jennique:

Trouble - no worries on my part. It's funny sometimes I miss the obvious for years while everyone gets it right away. I just figured out EMINEM or M and M stood for Marshal Mathers, his real name initials. And my mind was blown when I was told Casey Kasem was the voice of Shaggy.
  11:48am
trouble:

welcome to tuesday Postmanpaull
  11:52am
Parq:

Jennique: Kasem did a lot of voice work for Hanna Barabera before he became famous as a radio jock. I'm pretty sure he played Robin in an early "Batman" cartoon. Ted Knight, known to 70s TV fans as Ted Baxter, was also all over Han-Bar cartoon ca. 1970.
  11:54am
