  6:08am
Richard from Venezuela:

Good morning Meghan.
  6:08am
Meghan:

Let's say a little bit of both!
  6:08am

  6:14am
Richard from Venezuela:

Good morning andy.
  6:14am
Meghan:

  6:15am
Nico in Sydney:

okay, we've already got Nth and Sth America, Europe and now Australia... we just need Asia and Africa and you've got the globe covered. perhaps we should excuse the Antarctic listeners...
  6:15am
Richard from Venezuela:

  6:16am
annie:

  6:17am
Meghan:

We'll let Antartica pass.... their fingers must be frozen! Welcome Nico! And Morning Annie!
  6:18am
bennett4senate:

yo meghan are there any rap songs on your playlist? I feel like those dudes did some date-dropping in the 90s...
  6:19am
Meghan:

I have one...... but they dropped dates in the middle..... Maybe we should propose that to Noah!
  6:20am
unclepoop:

fucking lame theme shows, this is the worst show on wfmu
  6:21am
Andy in Berlin:

Yike, only 19 minutes into the show and we've already gone 57 years! Hey by the way there's probably a whole set's worth of songs about 1984, no?
  6:21am
jamesie:

each to his (her) own
  6:21am
unclepoop:

by far
  6:23am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Hey there everybody! Happy New Year!
  6:25am
Chuck:

Morning all from upstate! NO SNOW! My back hurts just thinking about it...
  6:26am
Meghan:

Morning Jamesie and ALF!
  6:26am
bennett4senate:

I don't see it in the library, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mt3vZHDiM8 is what I was thinking of :)
  6:28am
Meghan:

Grrrr, the computers up here are dead.... so I can't listen! Thanks Bennett!
  6:31am
jamesie:

I heard you change the volume on your MacBook, you can turn that off! Hope John Cale Paris 1899 gets a track... possibly rejected because its the album title - we are in 50's now, too late!
  6:32am
jamesie:

Paris 1919 sorry
  6:32am
Meghan:

Awwww damn! I missed that one! I knew I had a feeling i was missing an early one. hehe... yep, I usually adjust that earlier..... forgot today due to computer issues. Fun fun
  6:34am
Chuck:

Wow! First time hearing this group. Me like!
  6:34am
jamesie:

I did that on my listener hour as well! - have a great year, Meghan
  6:35am
Meghan:

They are fairly new......
  6:36am
Meghan:

You too Jamesie!
  6:37am
Robert:

Hong Kong joins the global role call.

Interesting theme.

Will we get to 2112?
  6:38am
Meghan:

Come on Africa! Hello Robert! We will go past 2112!
  6:39am
Andy in Berlin:

@ Robert: at the rate we're going about a half hour
  6:44am
Chuck:

Ah, reminds me... Did The Alarm's "Spirit of '76" make the list, Meghan?
  6:45am
Meghan:

Nope, but Grand Funk and Ween took that year....
  6:45am
Robert:

Surprised we didn't have Louisiana 1927. Not a Randy Newman fan?
  6:47am
Meghan:

I think I have played him in the past...... I just didn't come across it in my searches......
  6:49am
Chuck:

Are there any 1978 songs, Meg?
  6:50am
jefff:

Best Band Ever! I just realized I missed 1952 Vincent Black Lightning... maybe a show about motorcycles?
  6:51am
Meghan:

Nope, it jumps to 1979.

Ha! Knew you'd love the Hoodoo Gurus Jeff! Let's see if there are enough songs about motorcycles....
  6:52am
Chuck:

Woo Hoo! Hoodoo Gurus followed by The Stooges! Sweet!
  6:59am
Dave B:

I'm sleepin like rip van winkle these days. How many years was that?
  7:00am
Theo:

1978 by The Gizmos
  7:00am
Elwyn:

Hey everyone!

I always blame Dave. It's just so obvious.

The Hoodoo Gurus give me mixed feelings. I am fond of their early days but I do think they sold out horribly when they modified their song "What's My Scene" to "What's My Team" to promote the NRL (either National Rugby League or National Rapist League depending on your perspective).

It feels like winter in Sydney right now.
  7:01am
dirty old man:

Good morning! Anything for 1946? That was a great year for me.
  7:02am
Dave B:

I'll be your huckleberry elwyn
  7:03am
Chuck:

Morning Dave and Elwyn! Was wondering when you'd check in...
  7:03am
Meghan:

Ohhhh, I'll have to check that one out Theo...... Not near the library now and the MP3 library up here is dead......

Nothing for 1946.....

You could say a lot of musicians sell out Elwyn.... playing their songs in commercials
  7:08am
Dave B:

It's all about the Benjamins
  7:11am
Elwyn:

I'm being harsh and unfair on the Gurus.
  7:12am
Chuck:

Everybody's got to make some kind of living, Elwyn. And making it as a musician is tough!
  7:13am
?:

G F'N F R R !!!!!

YES! GOOD MORNING NEIGHBORS!
  7:13am
Dave B:

That was me... (switched computers)
  7:14am
pierre:

Hello Meghan Happy new year from Paris which is BONNE ANNÉE !

Iguess you'll have no problems finding 1977's songs
  7:14am
Meghan:

ha! I kinda figured......

And as an artist Chuck!
  7:16am
Meghan:

Bonne Annee Pierre! Yep, the Clash helped me out with that year!
  7:17am
Dave B:

Ween is so good... Moist Boyz too!
  7:17am
Chuck:

Yup, artists in general fit the hard to make a living class...
  7:18am
pierre:

that's exactly what i had in mind, you had also "1977 Yamaha CS30" from Benge, and 1977 from Dr Octagon (in hiphop).
  7:20am
Meghan:

Dr Octagon had a couple songs with years in the title...
  7:20am
Chuck:

Of course, mold makers too! If a sculptor has no work then neither do I!
  7:22am
annie:

there was an old local access show out of chicago(?) with a guy who headlined and played the indie bands.. this was one of them. i LOVED that show..
  7:22am
Elwyn:

@Chuck: ever since entering the world of Stars Wars costuming, I've been learning about casters and people who recast, much to the annoyance of casters.
  7:22am
pierre:

yeah, that is true, if you go this far, there is a song called 3000 in his album Dr. Octagonecologyst.
But anyways, you seem to have managed everything.
  7:25am
annie:

late 70s... about the time i turned the radio back on..
  7:26am
Chuck:

He he... I know how to do all that stuff, Elwyn. I can do prosthetic make up too with the skills I now possess...
  7:27am
Richard from Venezuela:

I request an album. 1965 by The Afghan Whigs. :P
  7:28am
Chuck:

Problem is I live in upstate New York, not Hollywood...
  7:29am
annie:

meghan; you recall that show?
  7:29am
eric:

Hi all! Happy theme...Happy Head by The Mighty Lemon Drops.
  7:30am
annie:

"don't worry, be happy"
  7:30am
Dave B:

Todays show is like a musical Tardis!
  7:31am
Meghan:

Oh, Eric! Glad to hear from you! Great request!

Annie, I don't recall the show. I only went to school in Chicago, lived outside Boston for most of the 80's
  7:31am
Richard from Venezuela:

Yeah Dave Dr, Who represent!!
  7:31am
Elwyn:

@Chuck: can you make people look like a Terminator with skin blown off the metal endoskeleton?

@Meghan: will you be playing Guided by Voices' Dayton Ohio 19-something and 5?
  7:32am
annie:

i used to watch it each week.. even got my kid into it, he was only 5
  7:33am
Chuck:

Time And Relative Dimensions In Space... How geeky is it knowing this?
  7:33am
Elwyn:

I want to go to another 80s party but this time, dress as Patrick Bateman in a suit and raincoat and talk about the brilliance of the album "Fore".
  7:34am
Dave B:

Reagan Youth - Are You Happy goin up to where you can get it! Delicious early 80s NYC Punk!
  7:34am
Chuck:

Could take a little research on my part, Elwyn, but I'm sure I can figure it out...
  7:34am
Meghan:

Maybe I should have started the show with the Dr. Who theme eh?
  7:35am
Dave B:

@Elwyn - don't forget the big shiny axe, and a rag doused in chloroform
  7:36am
Dave B:

Meghan - if you can find the Dr Who theme, maybe loop it for the V.O. bed...
  7:36am
Chuck:

I'm still waiting for the new season of Dr. Who to begin. Does anyone know when it's due?
  7:36am
pierre:

…or some dialogues between the Doc and Marty McFly. But again this might be like the "smell like teen spirit" problem, heard to many times.
  7:37am
Dave B:

@Chuck I think next week on BBC America

And Todd! Going to see Utopia in a few weeks!
  7:38am
pierre:

cannot wait for 1986 !
  7:38am
Meghan:

uh oh..... I don't have an 86.......
  7:41am
Dave B:

Robert Fripp - 1986 from Let The Power Fall... Only 5 minutes long. Unlike 1984 from the same @ 12 mins
  7:41am
Chuck:

There is no way you could have NOT played this, Meghan....
  7:42am
Dave B:

Its up in my Dropbox folder...
  7:42am
Andy in Berlin:

since we have been traveling through the years I thought of doing one on Time. But of course that's been done. But have you done the hours of the day?
  7:44am
Meghan:

That could be the next numbers theme...... time, in numbers!
  7:45am
jamesie:

Parry Gripp yaaaaaaayyyyy!!!
  7:45am
Richard from Venezuela:

hahahahaha, Bowling for Soup
  7:46am
Richard from Venezuela:

This playlist is a true classic. To my favorites in Fifefox.
  7:48am
Dave B:

Couldn't pass this one either. Such a good bass line..
  7:48am
Andy in Berlin:

So as one listening not only 6 hours into the future but also, courtesy of Real Player, at the same time approximately 8 minutes in the past, I like that Todd Rundgren song! But Bowie is really Disco-ing out - eeeps!
  7:49am
Elwyn:

@Dave: I think I'd have to be careful about carrying any sort of imitation weapon in pubic. Cops are a bit more trigger happy these days. A few years ago, Some guy in a Star Wars costume even got all his obviously non-working weapons confiscated just because a tiny bit was sticking out of his backpack.
  7:50am
kath:

1001001001, I am here!

Love the Wings choice, btw!
  7:51am
pierre:

Boards of Canada – 1986 Summer Fire
Tachenko — 1986 (i don't know this one…)
Pati Yang – 1986 (don't know this one either)
  7:51am
Meghan:

hey there Kath! You missed your Sisters of Mercy request! Hope you are all packed up! When is the move day?
  7:52am
Chuck:

Morning, Kath!
  7:52am
Dave B:

Greets K.
  7:52am
Andy in Berlin:

@ Elwyn: I remember seeing The Empire Strikes Back in Times Sq. and at the end of the movie the guy in front of us stood up with a broadsword which he proceed to wrap up in a black cloth and put it in a bag. I guess those days are gone. [sigh]
  7:53am
Meghan:

I did have a Boards of Canada song..... but dropped it while trying to figure out what to drop due to time...
  7:54am
kath:

yes, I see, love them Sisters! Not very packed, staying an extra month, Feb 28th.
  7:54am
pierre:

yes sorry, you are right.
  7:54am
Parq:

G'morning, Miss Meg and crew. It's been a while, eh?
  7:55am
Parq:

As usual, I'm knocked out by your research skills. I've never even heard of more than half of these songs.
  7:57am
Chuck:

I had my sword taken away at a Halloween party in the Student Union building at college back in '83, Andy. There is no justice...
  7:57am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Speaking of years and what not, did anybody think something catastrophic was going to happen when 2000 came about?
  7:57am
pierre:

You are completely right for the Kate Bush sound on Joanna Newsom. I was thinking the same thing.
  7:59am
Richard from Venezuela:

Shiny Happy People by R.E.M
  7:59am
jeff p:

awww, no boards of canada?
  8:01am
Chuck:

One of my co-workers did at the time, Andy. Of course, Maureen was a little nuts. Remember, Meg?
  8:02am
Dave B:

@ALF - all that Y2K re-meditation for naught.. Although I did have to virtualize a few systems where I was at the time in order to keep them running..
  8:02am
Richard from Venezuela:

Thanks for the Adrian Belew Song.
  8:02am
Meghan:

I kinda giggled at the idea of the end of the world or the computer thing for 2000. Yet I still kinda giggle at it. I feel it's been the end of the world way too many times since I have been alive, so I kinda don't care when it happens now!
  8:02am
Chuck:

Y2K! Y2K! The world is gonna melt down!
  8:03am
Dave B:

I second Richard's thanks. Adrian Belew is the goods...
  8:03am
Meghan:

hehe, yes Chuck! Though she was armed with a stick.... not a sword. "We're all gonna die"!
  8:03am
Chuck:

The world IS gonna end. In about 5 billion years...
  8:03am
Elwyn:

Gonna happen in 2012 now or 2112!
  8:04am
Dave B:

MST3K!
MST3K!

W00T!
  8:04am
jeff p:

the thing about y2k was that there was an actual possibility that something bad WAS going to go down. No one knew for sure. A lot of people spent a lot of time fixing a lot of problems.
  8:04am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

@ Dave B I miss that show! LOL!
  8:04am
Richard from Venezuela:

Home - Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros Acoustic Cover (Jorge & Alexa Narvaez) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L64c5vT3NBw&feature=player_embedded# . The cuttest video in the all wide world.
  8:05am
Meghan:

Richard, I do love that song......
  8:06am
Dave B:

If Meghan plays Ru-bbi-sh, JT, GD, JM... THEN THE END IS NIGH!

BE FORE WARNED!!!
  8:06am
Andy in Berlin:

Hey for the time of day show, what about Dukes of Stratosphere song "25 O'clock"?
  8:06am
jeff p:

btw you can check out a lot of the best mst3k shows on netflix streaming
  8:07am
Richard from Venezuela:

@meghan I love the both versions. What a great song.
  8:08am
Dave B:

I downloaded a monster torrent of MST2K - not the greatest quality on some of the earlier ones, but none the less!

Morning Jeff P = hope yer feelin better. Tekserve turned down my repair...
  8:09am
jeff p:

@dave b: really? why?
  8:10am
pierre:

- Francis Bay did a song called One o'clock Jump.
- ? and the mysterians (one of the best band name ever) did Ten O'clock
- The Lovin' Spoonfull did Six O'Clock

there you have 3 hours covered. And to all, MST3K is a great show, even if it never got aired in France (discovered it later with the help of the internet).
  8:10am
ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

I still gets mine in the 1-9-9-9!
  8:11am
Dave B:

Out of warranty. They're blowing smoke up my bum... I'll swing by Apple this weekend, and if that fail www.powerbookmedic
  8:12am
Meghan:

Andy, wrote it down!

Thanks Pierre, wrote yours down as well!
  8:13am
Elwyn:

I don't actually know anyone who worked on the Y2K bug.
  8:13am
Chuck:

Purely out of curiosity, what was everyone's most memorable year? Mine was 1984...
  8:14am
jeff p:

@chuck: probably 1995
  8:14am
glenn:

dave b. - if you were stevie nicks, you could have a roadie blow cocaine up your bum through a straw.
  8:15am
Meghan:

I think mine is 1988......
  8:16am
Chuck:

Hopefully they are memories of very GOOD years folks!
  8:16am
Dave B:

@Chuck - depends on the memories.. 1977 was good. 1980 was bad...
@Glenn - that might lead to a deviated rectum.
  8:17am
jeff p:

Nearly killed 'em.
  8:17am
pierre:

@ Meghan : you mean on facebook?

@ MST3K fans : does anyone go see this website http://www.trailersfromhell.com
it's pretty good.

1995 was memorable year, just bought my first ever compact disc.
  8:18am
Richard from Venezuela:

Eating an arepa. Yummy!
  8:19am
Dave B:

@Jeff P - ~snort~
  8:21am
Chuck:

  8:22am
glenn:

that snippet came from a book about fleetwood mac, i forget the title. so, my question is - what's your favourite book about music/bands?
  8:23am
Dave B:

Should have ripped the Conan song.

"In the year two thousand!"
  8:23am
glenn:

i didn't know the donut had died! now what do i do?
  8:23am
kath:

I haven't read any Chuck, but i would think a book about Zappa would be he most facinating!
  8:24am
Chuck:

I can live without the flying cars, but why can't we have solar power!
  8:24am
Dave B:

Clapton's Guitar - about a luthier from West Virginia who told Clapton to take a number..
  8:25am
jeff p:

I hate Crapton.

if you mean chuck klosterman, he's a great writer.
  8:26am
Meghan:

I hate Clapton too.... I just don't find him to be interesting. I feel the same way about John Mayer too....
  8:26am
Chuck:

Haven't read many books about bands. I do have one about Blondie that's quite interesting though...
  8:26am
Elwyn:

Ha ha. I'm cutting and pasting this from wikipedia:

2112 is one of two Rush albums listed in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (the other being Moving Pictures). In 2006, a poll of Planet Rock listeners picked 2112 as the definitive Rush album.

I haven't heard this song in AGES! reminds me of highschool

Dave B:

The book is more about the art of building guitars. A really good read - Wayne Henderson is the luthier, Allen St John the author.

Best part is Henderson was like "who wants a guitar?" and then sat on the order for about five years..
  8:29am
Elwyn:

@Meghan: have you heard the song "Very Missionary" by Maow (an early band of Neko Case). In summary, there's hating on Clapton and praise for Hank Williams.

@Dave: just before the holidays, I finished reading "Our Band Could Be Your Life".
  8:29am
pierre:

Yeah the Reziillos represent Scotland !
  8:30am
glenn:

i don't hate eric clapton at all. the yardbirds, john mayall, cream. good stuff. after that though, he does kinda blow. peter green is a far better guitarist, and a way more interesting guy.
  8:30am
Meghan:

I got to say my favorite was Black Postcards. Partially cause it was an autobiography and was really well written
  8:30am
jeff p:

The rezillos song. Awesome to dance alone in the bedroom.
  8:31am
Chuck:

Makes me wonder if any group will ever put out an album that's basically a rock opera ever again, Elwyn. Probably not...
  8:31am
Meghan:

I haven't heard that song Elwyn.... I'll have to check it out
  8:31am
Dave B:

I did run into Clapton once on the East Side. Shook his hand and told him to have a nice day...

  8:32am
Meghan:

Jeff and I always thought that the next rock opera should be done by 80's metal singers. They can hit those high notes. The theme would be either about vikings or about Native Americans...... We have thought this out

Dave B:

This brings to mind the fact that we've known each other for at least 10 years now, Meg. Strange the passage of time...

  8:40am
Meghan:

Holy crap.... you are right Chuck!
  8:40am
Elwyn:

I want a rock opera with David Lee Roth portraying King David. Roth has his Jewishness, his dance skillz and natural lasciviousness that makes him an obviously and fitting choice.
  8:40am
Richard from Venezuela:

1972 by Josh Rouse. Awesome song and record.
  8:41am
jeff p:

Re the substitution in "What Are We Gonna Do In '64?", excellent choice. That Califia CD is pretty good all the way through, too.
