Cecile:

Love this. Such a pure voice. You know he sang doo-wop as a wee tad.
  12:02pm
Listener Bill:

William Parker! Wow!!
  12:11pm
frenchee:

Back in the 80s, I worked at a restaurant in a college town. They went through a jazz phase. At some point THE ONLY CD we were allowed to play was "Kind of Blue."
  12:15pm
annie:

wow frenchee, how restrictive for the diners. our best cafe here in town knows who's tending bar by the music they play. they reign over the cd player.
  12:15pm
frenchee:

when Miles Davis died and WKCR played 48 hours of Miles in tribute, I had a new job, installing art at a Queens art gallery. We were painting the floors battleship gray and listening to every outtake and version of "Kind of Blue" ever set to acetate.
  12:16pm
annie:

although, this is my fave piece. i do admit that
  12:17pm
frenchee:

Annie, eventually the owners capitulated and we could play about six other CDs.
  12:18pm
frenchee:

Oh, and Iwent to grade school with Wes Montgomery's daughter. She was a mean girl.
  12:20pm
annie:

hehe, how nice.. there was another breakfast spot cafe here, you could tell what time it was by the music on the player. they just pushed play on the cd rack.never changed the cds. a great way to turn someone off a piece of music.
  12:22pm
annie:

i can tell this is gonna be a great show
  12:24pm
βrian:

Say, I like this courier font.
  12:27pm
frenchee:

Annie, I love your chrono-cafe stories!
  12:30pm
annie:

oh, and we have cafes... they just aren't run by deejays. when i had my little cafe, i made sure the music was shakin! satisfied my retired deejay mentality. one write-up said i had the best music in town
  12:31pm
annie:

...i stay out of places that play the local commercial radio station or npr.
  12:39pm

Man, I missed Nina Simone. Great show though, Kurt.

I know you're in a horn mode, but some Monk would do wonderful things for my morale.
  12:49pm
Dog-Faced Boy:

I'm in a horn mood, too. How about a little trip to Naked City with our friend John Zorn?
  12:59pm
