Listener comments!

  12:24am
coalhard:

somebody wake jesse ventura up--i know he is grumpy if you wake him this time of year--there is a conspiracy going on right now--WFMU is dominating the world right under our ears!!!!!!
  12:55am
Joe McG:

Looks like you're all alone out there, Coalhard.
  1:01am
Anonymous Listener:

I'm here too! For a while, at least.
  1:03am
coalhard:

nah--even pluto has a moon
  1:04am
Joe McG:

Hi, AL.
  1:04am
trent:

is it OK when i was like "i knew joe was going to play biggie tonight"
  1:05am
Joe McG:

Of course it's OK. I understand.
  1:06am
coalhard:

did you know the word OK has strange origns--not really a word
  1:07am
Matt from Springfield:

(I Can't Get No) Domination.
How's it going (the mood, not our eventual world dom goal)?
  1:07am
fleep:

I was looking at the lengthy Flickr album of adoptable staff, dogs, equipment, velvet paintings, plumbing, and toys for the Marathon. So many tired, beat-up looking things to claim! And that's just the DJs. Meanwhile, great show, Joe!
  1:08am
Matt from Springfield:

@CH: "Oll Korrect", I believe sounds likely. There are several other apocryphal stories.
@fleep: Zing!
  1:08am
coalhard:

OK--started with a long dead president
  1:09am
Joe McG:

Thanks, fleep! Yes, there's a whole pile of grizzled looking things you can adopt. I'm among them. Hey Matt--no world domination tonight, just trying to dominate Studio B.
  1:10am
Matt from Springfield:

Is this Barbara Mason NEW new? Has 1983 post-disco crept back without my knowing?
  1:11am
Joe McG:

Nope, Matt, you hit it. Oldies--pretty much all I play!
  1:14am
Matt from Springfield:

Speaking of which, nice shout-out to Norfolk, Virginia--my fellow Virginians to the south.
  1:16am
coalhard:

this show proves Einstein was right --time is relative and a cd will fly up behind you and hit you in the butt
  1:18am
Matt from Springfield:

Given INFINITE time, that WILL happen. Sooner rather than later, maybe!
  1:33am
coalhard:

i love reddidio speshilly when it is late at nite!!!
  1:44am
Matt from Springfield:

I love this Love Chain! Real happy mood!
I dedicate this to our listeners from Europe to about Australia, you're actually seeing the Sun now!
  1:49am
coalhard:

true story--if you go to soho website --you will see actuall pic of sun making a funny face?
  1:49am
Joe McG:

Midnight sun over here...Actually, the moon is really striking tonight. Real werewolf stuff. It's so gleaming, like the clouds have burnished it bright.
  1:52am
Anonymous Listener:

Dear wfmu, you may be a nonstop source of joy, wonder and ineffability, but I am only human and I must sleep. See you tomorrow.
  1:53am
Joe McG:

Take care, AL, and thanks for dropping by.
  1:54am
coalhard:

weird news out today--only when we see full moon means the moon is in earths trailing magnetosphere--means the moon surface becomes charged--no moon landings happened when moon was full--or lander could have been destroyed
  1:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Allusion Time: Drop A Bomb On The Gap Band instead! (Zing! Also '81!)
  1:59am
Joe McG:

Wish I had that 45 with me, Matt! Damn!
  2:00am
Joe McG:

Tell me more about the Moon, Coalhard.
  2:00am
lauren berry:

joe! will i see you fridays during the marathon?
  2:01am
Matt from Springfield:

@CH: That's why it's "rocket science" -- not only did they have to consider factors such as that, they also had to make a launch that would leave the Earth's atmosphere, land on where the Moon would be in 3 days, and they did it all with SLIDE RULES. Math can be amazing when you put it to good use!
  2:01am
Joe McG:

You will indeed! Hi, Lauren!
  2:03am
lauren berry:

oh yay! i signed up for 7 hour shifts both fridays. obviously i'll be around past 7 but awesome. i get to see all my favorite people then
  2:05am
Tim Serpas:

You are absolutely correct about Beavis and Butt-Head.
  2:08am
lauren berry:

ps totally post-poned my spring break plans to go to the hoof and mouth
  2:09am
coalhard:

i could tell you how the moon is moving away from the earth at 1 inch per year which means the moon is about 6 ft. further away than when i was born
  2:12am
Matt from Springfield:

Yoohoo, Mr. Listener Services! I got a couple questions, so please type answers with your typing while you spin records with your best hand for that!

? The 1st: I got my pledge form mailed to me, and I know you like some early motivation for the marathon with an early donation, but can I still have my donation announced on a show during the first week?
  2:20am
lauren berry:

i just rediscovered the john prine/iris dement "in spite of ourselves" i don't know why but this song is my guilty pleasure
  2:20am
Joe McG:

Hey, Matt--Sure. If you check "Prize Account" on the form, you can call and pledge on whatever shows you like and the pledge will count towards your initial pledge.
  2:20am
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, Rhino reissue! Intriguing cover by Nino and April, pop rock, bagpipes and all!

? The 2nd: Have you ever mailed out Dave Emory's "anti-fascist snack item"? I'm curious as to what that is!
  2:21am
Joe McG:

Hey, Lauren--I love that song! If I weren't on the 4th floor, I'd grab it from the library and play it!
  2:22am
lauren berry:

why are you in B?
  2:23am
Joe McG:

We start broadcasting up here a couple of weeks early to get used to it since it feels so different. I'm still getting used to the mic, which is ultra sensitive.
  2:24am
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Joe--no one in your listening area will recognize ME per se, but I like to have large pledges announced on the air, so fans of a show will know that a lot of other fans are truly off the sidelines pledging their support.
  2:25am
lauren berry:

ah. gotcha.
  2:28am
Brian in UK:

Morning Joe, was just 'bout to ask if you had Gram & Emmylou and here it is. Heaven. Top man.
  2:28am
Joe McG:

Hey, Matt--I forgot to answer your 2nd question. Yes, we did mail out the Anti-Fascist snacks. They were sunflower seeds, truth be told!
  2:28am
lauren berry:

i have such a soft spot for iris dement. i'm sure youve seen it but theres the iris dement/emmylou harris version of our town. so good
  2:28am
Joe McG:

Hey, Brian! This song is hitting the spot for me, too...
  2:29am
Joe McG:

I'm an Iris fan, Lauren. I even like her gospel album, which nobody else seems too interested in.
  2:30am
coalhard:

joe --you are moving further away from earth--we can bring you back down if we have too we can tie fire hose around you shove out of window just say the word
  2:31am
Brian in UK:

@ lauren I wrote to her at the website asking if she was coming to the UK, never got a reply. Guess she isn't coming!
  2:32am
lauren berry:

that's unfortunate. i'm just as happy to watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v7dXA-LWVk
  2:32am
Matt from Springfield:

Anti-fascist AND renewable energy source, a positive snack for the people! And don't worry Joe, I'm definitely getting your Single File Vol. 2 so start yer CD burnin'!

And one more quickie: Do you know who is on your tag team for the marathon, or whose other shows you will be on?
  2:36am
Joe McG:

Sure, Matt, no big secret. I'll be on with Meghan and Rich. On with me will be Mike Sin and Rob W. I hope you'll like the CD...I think it's a good one!
  2:38am
Matt from Springfield:

Many thanks Joe, looking forward to that and to a great marathon! These country duets are nearly perfect, many thanks for that as well. Gram/Emmylou, Nancy/Lee, Waylon/Anita, Kris and Rita...ah...
  2:40am
Matt from Springfield:

Mickey and Sylvia to boot! I only saw a brief glimpse on TV once, but Sylvia played the electric guitar! Real happenin' chick!
  2:43am
lauren berry:

alright joe, adios. i have work in the am. see you soon!!
  2:46am
Joe McG:

Adios, Lauren! Thanks for stoppin' by!
  2:55am
Joe McG:

Thanks EVERYBODY for stopping by and listening, on Web and off.
  2:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Thank YOU for once again DJing our late nights! I'm gonna look for that King Creosote, love that!

A good night to all!
