Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from March 8, 2011 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Today's grand prize! Everyone who makes a premium sized pledge automatically gets the WFMU and BT/John Morton tee, but you'll also be in the running to grab this great box set of the works of GARY PANTER! " "Best First "Big Show": Panter isn't just a legendary underground comic-book artist and the guy who created the sets for Pee-wee's Playhouse; he's also a painter. For his Clementine Gallery retrospective, "Pictures From the Psychedelic Swamp, 1972-2001," Panter covered the walls with recurring characters (like his "post-nuclear punk-rock" dude named Jimbo) and curated a room with the quirky ephemera that's inspired his work (soap wrappers, Japanese candy, wet paint signs). "Show" is probably the wrong word for what was on view here: It was more like walking into Panter's messy, expressionistic, and entirely original brain." --New York Magazine, December 12, 2008"

SF Spike:

Helghast: that happens to me here at work periodically. It might be a firewall issue, but rebooting often fixes the problem. Or I just switch to Flash for a while.
  3:21pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Helghast: 20k Windows stream works fine in my windows mobile phone.
  3:21pm
Tom:

Hey hey BT and JS!
  3:22pm
minesota jeff:

Whoa, you are giving out the Panter tome? I have that book, its A-MA-ZING-A-ZING! Two amazing slabs of art.
  3:23pm
Helghast:

Thanks guys. Yeah I'm using it at work so it might be a network/firewall issue. It used to work though which is strange. I'll try rebooting or just stick with the Flash. Cheers

  3:24pm
Maria:

Hello From Mardi Gras Brian Turner!!!! xoxo
  3:24pm
I̥͔ke:

Flash sounds way better anyway. Or I recommend the AAC+ stream (~32-48k) for anybody with bandwidth issues; sounds way better than Windows stream. Works with Winamp, VLC, Foobar. (Another reason I pledge to FMU, b/c they offer so many good streaming options.)
  3:28pm
Dan B:

This Schizo tune is sick
  3:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ike: Since I can use 128k, I use it! Especially since (ironically) the low rate Windows stream is so sketchy on my work computers. Winamp is fine though.
  3:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

You ARE better than the sewer grate, Brian! The sewer grate only keeps the shit out--as Music Director you keep the shit out, AND bring the good stuff to us as well!

  3:50pm

Even sludgier than on God's Favorite Dog -- who could draw a performance like that out of Killdozer? BT can.
  3:54pm
JCJ:

I'm with you, Matt, Always on the 128K mp3 stream here, too. Sounds great, especially after a bit of equalization adjustment.
  3:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

@JCJ: That's right, Winamp will do so much for you in the audio dept.
@BT: THAT Belinda! It was thanks to you a couple months ago I learned she was a punk rocker at one point!
  4:01pm

great! All is in the (s)well !!!
  4:30pm
?:

This O-Rex might just beat Ahiyo's Satisfaction, but it's a tight competition...Ahiyo's advantage is that the form of the song is utterly unfindable in the dissatisfied guitar massiveness, but this somehow manages to actually sound shittier than the Stones and almost as good as the Stooges all at once, so it's a tough call.
  4:30pm
Robert:

I always heard the lyrics of that as:

"Wha?! Jesus! It's just a shadow, it's just a shadow."
  4:32pm
