  8:08am Drummer Some:

I have ALL her records!
  8:09am annie:

i only discovered her work a few years ago.. fascinating..
  8:46am texas scott:

woke up to live coverage of the Royal wedding on every network.no weather reports.or local stuff.

what's a dirt farmer to do?
at least we got a fine music programme to look forward to.
  8:46am monica:

mornin', doug! butter sends her best as well.
  8:52am david:

let's get the show on the road!!!! I'm wide awake and ready for some tunes.
  8:52am Drummer Some:

Texas Scott, I assume y'all like your weddings big down there.

Monica and Butter, now THAT's a marriage that's going to last. Praise the lord and pass the kibble!
  8:52am Parq:

T-Scott, what royal wedding? Morning all, including Miss Butter.
  8:55am Brian in UK:

Mornin' all. Missed every damn minute so far. To the Tower with him. Off with his head.
  8:57am Drummer Some:

David, this show is eternally on the road. Why, I wonder, do I keep coming all this way to Pittsburgh just to do a radio program?!
  8:59am Drummer Some:

Parq, I now pronounce you person and ears. Have a nice show!
  8:59am texas scott:

it ain't a wedding unless there's a shotgun involved.
just ain't fittin".
  8:59am listener james from westwood:

Better morning for the royals than for the Royals!
  9:01am listener james from westwood:

@Texas Scott: Judging by ye olde livery in evidence @ the nuptials, I'd expect halberdiers and pikemen instead of scatterguns!
  9:03am texas scott:

@listener james:that's just for crowd control
  9:03am Drummer Some:

Will all please rise and allow Listener James from Westwood to invoke the opening prayer.
  9:05am annie:

good lord good meat, good lord let's beat.. the drum! (sorry it just came to me..)
  9:05am texas scott:

@Monica:Did you see "The Office" last night?
I wept like a 4 year old.
  9:05am dc pat:

hodeedo.
  9:06am Andy S.:

Good morning, Drummer, from Brooklyn Heights NY! Happy birthday Duke Ellington, blues master Otis Rush, sax man George Adams.
  9:06am Brian in UK:

Saw Mary Gauthier in the week performing 'The Foundling' at the Foundling Museum in London. Very moving, she is in the process of working it out and has left songs for us to mull over and absorb. Very moving evening. A powerful performer.
  9:08am still b/p:

If someone'd sneak me some of the cake, it'd be arright, if it's chocolate. But aside from that, I devotedly quote a character from The Madness of King George: "Rot all royals."
  9:08am Brian in UK:

Three out of the last four weddings in the Abbey have ended in DIVORCE.
  9:09am listener james from westwood:

Can't offer no prayer better for a GTDS Friday than, "Laissez le bon musique rouler!"
  9:09am BodegaMan:

seven minutes and a gazillion comments, aren't you guys up with the rooster today.

missed last week cause I was hung over from my birthday.
  9:10am Drummer Some:

Faithful listener Paul S from Stoke-on-Trent has welcome Ms. Gauthier into his home. I'm guessing she likes her coffee dark.

Happy birthday Duke Ellington and BodegaMan!
  9:11am dc pat:

I wonder what % of USAers would prefer a monarchy. Never ceases to amaze me how much attention this bullshit gets. No offense UKers. God save the queen..
  9:12am Drummer Some:

Much as I'd like to say so, Andy S. from Brookyln Heights (oh how I miss Brooklyn), this current performer was not selected with you in mind.
  9:13am annie:

sub-mo- reen..
  9:15am BodegaMan:

I too am cynical about the whole wedding biz. Then I remember an article by one of my favorite writers Mike Royko - Chicago newspaperman. had a great article about the beauty of love and marriage to combat all the Charles and Diana haters going on way back when. On the small chance anyone knows his work it was moving and touching, from such a surly dude.
  9:15am BodegaMan:

I got my math wrong for the first time on the previous comment!
  9:18am Sister Hairy Hymen:

GOOD stuff
  9:22am Drummer Some:

Hey hey, Sister Hairy is in the pleasure dome!
  9:22am Parq:

'dega Man, I was a Royko fan, too. I remember vividly his retort to the Belushi haters (Mike knew John personally) who dogpiled him when it came out the JB's death was drug related.
  9:22am dc pat:

dang Duck Holmes is kickin.
  9:23am Sister Hairy Hymen:

I listen but mostly at night when I work
  9:24am Sister Hairy Hymen:

I am working on a comedy show for radio satan waiting for Sons of butcher to finish download but that can wait
  9:25am Sister Hairy Hymen:

I love da blues
  9:26am Drummer Some:

Excuse me, Sister H, but what is the "work" you are speaking of? I don't get the concept.
  9:27am Sister Hairy Hymen:

Its cleaning a shopping mall from 11pm to 8 30 am five days a week
  9:34am BodegaMan:

@Parq, yeah the Belushi stuff was excellent, although his defense of Nelson Algren( guy who wrote Man with the Golden Arm) probably tops it all. Showed such keen insight into immigrant communities I still think about it today.
  9:34am ndbob:

Morning Doug! Yep, Michigan City, Indiana is right along the lake east of Chicago.
  9:34am dc pat:

Loo-ah-vull
  9:34am Merv:

Michigan City is almost a "suburb" of Gary, IN, right over the border, so basically you're right... But it's also on the coast of Lake Michigan, so gets a little tourism action...
  9:35am listener james from westwood:

can donald trump be hogtied along with those fuckin' legislators to whom you refer? as long as we're making a list of racist assholes....
  9:35am Brian in UK:

Is that steel mill action in Gary?
  9:36am listener james from westwood:

spy magazine was right back in the late 80s: donald trump = short-fingered vulgarian. took long enough for the whole country to realize this.
  9:36am Aaron in JCity:

good morning Mr. Drummer!
  9:37am Merv:

Gary's about the most consistently stinky town I've ever driven through (and have driven through many, many times)... Way industrial...
  9:38am ndbob:

I once found a campaign record from the Jablonski - Boyle campaign.
  9:38am Merv:

@drummer-- You never need help sounding smart... :)
  9:38am Drummer Some:

Morning, Brother Aaron. Put your hand on your magic radio box and pray with me.
  9:39am Brian in UK:

Have they traced the origins of the rug that he wears atop his head. If it were in an art gallery it would be called an installation. It has origins on Alpha Centurii. Yes this is personal.
  9:39am Sister Hairy Hymen:

Amen Amen,
  9:39am listener james from westwood:

that rug might be the brains of the outfit, like master blaster from thunderdome.
  9:40am northguineahills:

RIP Hazel Dickens
  9:40am ndbob:

Donald's rug was born in Kenya.
  9:41am Merv:

http://www.theonion.com/articles/trump-unable-to-produce-certificate-proving-hes-no,20250/
  9:41am Brian in UK:

Imagine setting off the fire alarms in a hotel he was staying in the middle of the night just to see what he looks like without four hours of coiffuring.
  9:42am Maggie in Rock Tavern:

It's not a rug. that's an insult to all shag carpeting. it's a Mobius combover.
  9:43am BodegaMan:

Today's Salon article on Trump shows his problems with race going back to the 70s. Also what a tremendous blowhard he's been his entire life.
  9:45am dc pat:

Maggie: I was trying to figure out a funny way to say that--you win.
  9:45am Brian in UK:

It never ceases to amaze me the voice these people have in the US. But then there's always Mississippi.
  9:46am Drummer Some:

Favorite Trump campaign poster slogan: "We Shall Overcomb"
  9:46am Maggie in Rock Tavern:

i won't take full cred on it, dc pat - either stewart or colbert called it Mobius hair ;)
  9:47am Maggie in Rock Tavern:

@ Doug - I just practically fell out of my chair!!!!
  9:48am Brian in UK:

I'm with Maggie.
  9:48am Sister Hairy Hymen:

The Scary thing is that TRUMP might win
  9:49am ndbob:

Don't think so.. I'd bet he won't even run.
  9:50am still b/p:

I'm reminded of Steven Van Zandt and his Sopranos role: "It's the hair that's doing the acting, not me, The character is the hair, as far as I'm concerned. When I look in the mirror, I have to see this guy. I can't see me. And the hair is this guy."
  9:51am Maggie in Rock Tavern:

which begs the question: what did Phil Spector see in the mirror before he went to court that one day with the giant hair?
  9:52am dc pat:

nbob: agree, if he does he'll destroy his own campaign by talking too much
  9:56am BodegaMan:

if he runs he'd also have to show everyone that he's not a billionaire and that would be a tragic blow to his ego.
  9:56am listener james from westwood:

love this dee mullins cut. where else could grass have the point of view of a song except in country?
  9:57am listener james from westwood:

@b/p: silvio dante: epic hair, even in a series w/ paulie walnuts. and of course the loudest wardrobe in north jersey.
  9:59am ndbob:

Bobby Russell made some interesting records... but he did write "Honey".
  10:01am still b/p:

"the loudest wardrobe in north jersey."
Please, Jesus, please, please, Jesus, inspire someone to hold a men's pageant in this category. Amen.
  10:03am listener james from westwood:

an ex once gave me a mix w. the goodmen's "give it up (batacuda refrescante)" on it. it was inflammatory in all the right ways.
  10:03am Drummer Some:

Yes, LJfW, that is wonderful observation. I can think of a few Jamaicans who may have sung songs from the point of view of grass, but that's a different story.
  10:08am still b/p:

So after being offline/outa town a while, an email review prompted a look at a GTDS playlist I'd missed. Y'all heard more S. African music than I did....while I was there.
  10:14am Drummer Some:

@still b/p
I have a jaw-dropping South Africa jazz rarity coming up later. I almost started crying (literally) when this one popped up on a favorite blog. Don't miss it!
  10:18am ndbob:

Looking forward to it Doug.
  10:22am still b/p:

Gimme an EAS sorta attention-getter in case I'm in the next room.
  10:24am rst-wiley:

pretty song.
  10:25am listener james from westwood:

@doug: if music can't occasionally get the waterworks going, then what's the point of even waking up in the a.m.?
  10:26am Drummer Some:

@still b/p:
We have a GTDS bulletin for Essex, Hudson, New Brunswick, Ducchess, Orange Counties:

Amazing SA rarity will start the next set (after this 4-minute track)
  10:29am Drummer Some:

@JJfW
You know me, I'll cry at the drop of a hat. (Oh the poor hat, bwahhhhh!)
  10:29am jill:

Great show, drummer. This set makes my time in the kitchen making maple-chocolate muffins that much nicer...PS: Thanks for the Ghetto Brothers link on the blog!
  10:31am Andy S.:

"Samba Pa Ti" - one of my favorite Santana tracks! Unfortunately, the many mediocre Santana albums have tended to obscure some great recordings.
  10:32am annie:

andy, i was just thinking the same thing..
  10:33am still b/p:

Maple chocolate muffins! ... will be accepted in lieu of some Will 'n Kate cake!
  10:38am ndbob:

I can relate to the endless blog post backlog.
  10:39am Drummer Some:

Ghetto Brothers are COMING UP, Jill!
  10:41am Brian in UK:

I smell Dollar Brand
  10:42am Drummer Some:

I rather think Mr. Brand wouldn't appreciate knowing that, Brian.
  10:44am still b/p:

Could we call Endless Blog Post Backlog a case of the eebie-peebies?
  10:45am Brian in UK:

Just had some Ecuadorian Easter Egg. Wacky.
  10:47am Nick:

Thanks for early Dudu. I treasure seeing him at the old Jazz Cafe on Newington Green, London, months before he died. In the audience a well-dressed, slightly out-of-place looking white woman whom he kept looking to, as if for approval. I imagined her as his Pannonica -- or more likely his therapist.
  10:47am BodegaMan:

There are people in my office wearing fancy hats in celebration of the young couple. that happening anywhere else?
  10:48am Carmichael:

Hi Doug, and aloha, amigos y amigas.
  10:49am Drummer Some:

Ahoy, Carmichael, well aboard. Now grab a bucket and start bailing.
  10:51am Drummer Some:

Coming up in the next song will be one of the most gorgeous bass solos you'll ever hear. Courtesy of the mighty Wilbur Ware.
  10:51am Nick:

Wha... behold, Pannonica! Behold, uber-responsive (or prescient) DJ.
  10:58am Drummer Some:

We should all have our own personal Baroness, Nick. (And no, I selected that track this morning at about 1AM!)
  11:00am Drummer Some:

Nick, I HAVE TO hear more about your seeing Dudu.

If you like that bass solo, listen for Bobby Wellins's heart-rending tenor sax in the next selection. Wow!
  11:07am Brian in UK:

All night long, it's Organ Morgan.
  11:09am Shaun:

Myfanwy, Myfanwy let me shipwreck in your thighs.
  11:10am Andy S.:

Alice Coltrane: I attended one of her last live performances, 10/22/2006 @ NJ Performing Arts Center, Newark NJ. Unforgettable!
  11:11am Shaun:

Soho in the sixties - Stan, Tubby, Shake and Joe Harriott. This is my country - not the one you've seen on TV today.
  11:15am Amanda:

I demand to hear an interview with the cat sometime in the future.
  11:17am Brian in UK:

She even made the sun wipe his feet.
  11:18am ndbob:

This is good. I just downloaded this, but haven't listened to it yet.
  11:19am Brian in UK:

Is that Captain Cat?
  11:19am Drummer Some:

Howdy Amanda!! Everyone say howdy to Amanda who debuted her new Nazaroi Scenario show on the stream yesterday. (Hear the archive here: http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/40104)

If you are a different Amanda, I deeply apologize.

Doesn't the word debuted look really weird?
  11:21am rst-wiley:

A lot of TV would be less objectionable with disclaimers -- 'objects and scenes presented as news and reality --- really aren't'
  11:21am Brian in UK:

I think you need an acute e. But I'm sure that Amanda is cutie!! Sorry.
  11:21am Amanda:

Better than "debited." And yes, that's me! Thanks mang. Happy to have tuned in in time for the Latin stuffs.
  11:22am Drummer Some:

Brian, I believe the correct term is "cutié"
  11:23am Amanda:

Oh, UK Brian, always on his game.
  11:23am ndbob:

Hello Amanda:).
  11:24am Amanda:

Hi ndbob! Happy wedding day!
  11:24am Alex in Illinois:

You mentioned Ram Ramirez. I've actually met him back in the 80's. His daughter went to the same college I did.
  11:24am Drummer Some:

@rst-wiley:
Like what John Kyl said was "not intended to be a factual statement"
  11:26am rst-wiley:

Heh. Yeah.
How is it that car mirrors come with disclaimers, yet .. ?
  11:27am Drummer Some:

@Alex in Illinois:
Wow! Ram is a hero of mine. He wasn't known as a singer, but I once saw him perform "Lover Man" and I nearly fell over.
  11:28am Brian in UK:

Cannot wait for the next show Amanda, after The 6ths & Kelley Stoltz, you are hitting the spot.
Subverting the Drummer!
  11:30am Brian in UK:

Great groove, another relentless one
  11:30am ndbob:

windy but mild here.. tomorrow - more winter weather
  11:31am Amanda:

Gasp! I never! But thank you. :-)

I know, this is messing me up! In a good, dance-around-the-room way.
  11:33am rst-wiley:

I forgot.
Wednesdays.. noon.
  11:34am Drummer Some:

This Ghetto Brothers record is featured in this week's Mining the Audio Motherlode. You simply MUST check it out:

http://tinyurl.com/3su67u2

No really—must.
  11:36am BodegaMan:

Ok, I'm SLOW. since the comment above about the Ghetto Brothers I've been confused. Thinking....is Doug really going to play them. Then the song comes on and I realize I was thinking about the Ghetto Boyz. somewhat different.
  11:37am ndbob:

Will do. One of the reasons Motherlode is so great, is not only does it introduce me to great music, but also lets me know about blogs I didn't know about.
  11:47am Drummer Some:

Not sure why I was saying "Von Koenigswarter" (when I'm holding the damn book and I know in my DNA that it's "de Koenigswarter"). Will you ever forgive me Nica?
  11:50am Amanda:

Chess Records 4-eva.
  11:52am Andy S.:

Willie Mabon -- my god, that man was a poet. He died in '85, having enjoyed his last decade-plus in Paris.
  11:54am ndbob:

Ah the great Joe Hinton.
  11:59am Drummer Some:

Reached a milestone on Give the Drummer Radio during the show today: At one point, the number of listeners checking out the show today equalled 50% of the audience listening to WFMU online. That's just an amazing accomplishment.

Can I just say to each and every one of you: Mwah!
  12:01pm ndbob:

Great show Doug!
  12:04pm Drummer Some:

Thank you ndbob and thank you all. It's be a blast.
  12:04pm Brian in UK:

Have you been eating garlic, Doug?
  12:08pm listener james from westwood:

a fine weekend to all and thanks for the many lovely tunes, doug!
  12:09pm rst-wiley:

Good radio listening. Many thanks.
